#SantiagoMetro #Chile #Subway
This video is the most complete history of all the Santiago Metro lines in Chile. As you well know, I really like public transport and also the metro. There are several videos that tell a little about the history, extensions, new stations and projections, however, they do not always explain the geographic and demographic variable of the cities. This video does have this component.
The video includes the initial plan of Metro lines developed by the BCEOM-SOFRETU-CADE consortium that was in force until 1985, it explains why Line 3 was not built in addition to the political and social circumstances of the context (economic crisis of 1982, earthquake of 1985 ). There are files with all the Santiago Metro trains, Alsthom NS74, Concarril NS88, Alstom NS93, Alstom AS2002, Alstom NS2004, CAF NS2007, CAF NS2012, CAF AS2014 and Alstom NS2016, giving their technical data in a brief and concise manner.
There are explanations for the flow of transport in the city of Santiago, considering that all transport moves from the periphery (where people live) to 3 nodes identified as Central Station, the center of Santiago (civic neighborhood) and the Providencia sector, the latter as a pole of work and employment. In the following decades, other communes such as Las Condes, in the eastern sector of the city, were added. Each line is explained from the point of view of transport flows, demand distribution and the technical ideas behind the characteristics of each line.
In the video I also wanted to include a little of the advances of Line 1, the passage from the SACEM automatic piloting system based on cantons, to the CBTC system that is newer and allows to have a shorter distance between each train, improving frequency is explained. and transport capacity. The end of the video talks about the failed reform of the NS74 trains and how the existing design was used to create the new NS2016 trains, along with the Santiago Metro extensions projected for 2023.
