Sir let me correct you. Karachi was never a peaceful city since 1962. The racism with the Urdu speaking Muhajirs started way back in 1962 when Ayub Khan activated ANP in Karachi when Ayub Khan deliberately and forcefully tried to disturb the ethnic balance in Karachi by bringing in Pathans from the KPK so that the Urdu speaking Muhajirs could be out populated and turned them into minority. The very first ethnic riots started in 1963 when Pathans attacked the neighbourhoods where the Muhajirs lived, back then there was no MQM no Altaf Hussain. Ayub Khan then said "Sindh is for Sindhis, NWFP (KPK) is for Pathans, Balochistan is for the Balochis, Punjab is for the Punjabis, for Muhajirs is the Arabian sea" which means they go and die by drowning themselves into the Arabian sea.

I don't understand why everyone think of Karachi when MQM or "Muhajirs" are discussed. There are hundreds of thousands of Muhajirs in different cities of urban Sindh such as Hyderabad, Sukkur, MirpurKhas. Also a very major incident this podcast missed was the Pakka Qilla massacre in which hundreds of Muhajireen were brutally killed in Hyderabad by Sindhi separatists which might've played a vital role in MQM picking up arms.

MQMs demand with regards to afghan migrants was for illegal activities such as drug and weapons smuggling should be stopped, but all the institutions were taking a cut of these including the army and police. Also, it was demanded that traffic be regulated and the drivers recklessness should be put in check to avoid akother case like bushra zaidi.

The first ethnic voilence took place in Karachi during Ayubs Era, when his son a procession of Pakhtun only supporters into Lalukhait, a lower middle class urdu speaking area of Jamat and Fatima Jinnah supporters. The political voilence fared up, and then turned into ethnic one. This also resulted in shifting of the political center of Karachi from Burns Road to Lalukhait, Liaqatabad and F.B.Area. Burns Road was political center was led by student politics as all the major University and colleges were located there(KU, NED, DJ science college and few km away the Islamia college). 2. The private economic hussle bussle was already distrupted in Karachi during Bhuttos era. As all industries were nationalized, and majority of them closed down. And after nationalization, Karachiites were barred from taking job anywhere. Because there werent any pvt industry left, and the govt ones werent giving jobs to Urban Sindh domicile holders.

Prejudice with Urdu speaking Muhajirs in not new even started after separation from India. Comparing Urdu speaking Muhajirs who migrated from India to their new homeland Pakistan and their offsprings with Afghan Muhajireen is quite shameful on host’s part. Muhajirs from India came to their own country. While Afghans came to Pakistan temporarily, had to return back to Afghanistan and they do not claim to be Pakistani, rather there are instances that proves that most hate Pakistan. Host has to be sensitive in building their narrative.

The crux is, AH was educated, mainly AH was man of SLUM, AH had very visionary eye on geopolitical situation of the whole world, AH had a knowledge, AH was the brilliant speaker and debater, AH had very strong understanding on the constitution and law, AH knew that how do the bureaucracy and administration work in the country. AH was expert in establishing his arguments, statements, facts and point of view.
