The northwest part of Iran was called Ater-Patakan, meaning the Land of (holy) Fire, an important region for Zoroastrian Iranians for whom the fire had religious significance. The name of the region has always been Aterpatakan (morphed into Azerbaydjan). The word comes from ancient Persian, nothing to do with Turkish or Azeri languages. The Armenia that the Greeks knew was always a part of Alexander's world. At 1:55 you say that Byzantine and Eastern Armenia split and is a problem. But this is not true. Pontus and Lesser Armenia were part of Mithridatic Kingdom since before Alexander The Great. The Alania (Georgians) and Armenian people formed the Armenian state around the same time as the Mithridatic Kingdom. But the Armenia was split back then by Persians and Greeks. Always the eastern part of Armenia fell into the hands of the Persians and foreigners like Arabs, Turks and Russians. But the Western side was always part of Alexander's World, a Hellenistic state. Always Eastern Armenia was at war to unite with Anatolian Greeks such as the Pontians or Mithridatic Kingdom. Also many Turks who came to Armenia and Anatolia initially came as Christian immigrants. Much later the Turks became the muscle of the Islamic Empire.

Before we came to Anatolia 10-11th century, it wasn't Turkey, it was mainly under the control of Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantine) and full of Armenians, Greeks, Kurds and Arabs. For two centuries there were Turkish migration from inner steppes of Asia to Anatolia. When we're done with Iran region (estabilished Seljuk Empire), we invaded your friends' lands, occupied, brought more Turks from Central Asia and we made it ours. So you can call it like "you stoled their lands", stealing/occupying/invading don't need to do all these word tricks, you can say whatever you want. After 11th century, anatolia is being started to called as Turkmenia-Turkia (land of Turks) and stayed so for almost 1000 years. Simply, we came, invaded, ruled, created a Turkish civilization there and protected it from the other invaders. We survived but they couldn't, that's basically the survival of fittest, social darwinism in a certain sense. I agree. Nakhichevan wasn't part of Azerbaijan, the last military forces to control the region prior to USSR was Armenian. It became under the "protection" of Azerbaijan by the Bolsheviks. There was a massive ethnic cleansing of Armenians afterwards. The population had a very significant Armenian population. Before talking about Zangezur, Yerevan, Karabakh, Baku, Sumgait, etc, we need to talk about Nakhichevan: the first major ethnic cleansing in the history of [New] Azerbaijan and Armenia.

There was no such thing as an "Ancient Azerbaijan" in the Caucasus before 1918. No we're not trying to take back la lands that we're Armenian 1000 years ago.
