I have read other books telling that he and others had witnessed the killing of Tunstall from the distance due to numbers. Even George Coe books sites that. This is the first saying he leaned it from a runner. The battle at Blazer’s Mill was different from George Coe’s book as well.

I know people are gonna read this and think another Elvis is still alive thing, but if we think about it, this Brushy bill Roberts, that died at 90 years old, borned on the same date and year Billy the kid was borned. Why would some 90 year old, a week or a few days before his death, ask for a pardon from the governor of New Mexico? This guy was claiming to be Billy the kid, this old man, had all the same scars, the facial features. I never heard of an old man, pretty much knowing he's about to die, go out of his way, and be cleared or pardoned,, before he went to meet his maker. Honestly, but we'll never know the truth, I believe Billy the kid wasn't killed that night in 1881. Look into this guys story, if one don't believe it will sure get one wondering.

I don't know how much of this I can believe because it is well known his first killing was a matter of self defense and he would have been acquitted if he had not run, and it also seems as well that once Billy was dead or thought dead take you pick people felt safe enough to make money off his name; since he was gone and his name was notorious as a cold blooded killer the mere mention of which sold books people began to exaggerate alot...

Since it is out of copyright the Kindle version of Siringo's book is on Amazon for free. Wikipedia and other sites claim Billy only killed eight men yet Siringo states well over 20 excluding Indians who according to Billy- didn't count. What is the true history? Only a scholar could suss it all out. This first person witness account is believable and detailed and I found it fascinating.

That is the truth. Have you ever been to the town of Hico Texas. You will be amazed a lady that works in the Bill The Kid musium and Brushy Bill. Knows and knew the wife and family of decendents. then take a trip to Billy The Kid country Lincoln County New Mexico. Every thing is there.pretty cool . 👍👀

Billy goes to another building to get some meat for his supper, and on his way back, he would have the butcher knife and some meat, presumably one in each hand. Yet we're told he died with a knife in one hand and a pistol in the other. Where did the meat go and where did the gun come from? Dead men tell no tales. I don't believe Garrett's story, but it matters nothing at this point.

@Rocky Mountain Way I definitely believe Billy was killed that night. The nearest photographer was over a hundred miles away, thats a fair argument for why no photo, and by all accounts, Garrett barricaded himself inside the house with his people because he was concerned about the pissed off people hanging around outside mourning. There wouldn't have been pissed off people at all if it wasn't Billy. I'm satisfied he was killed that night but not in the manner that Garrett describes. For starters, in order to make himself look better, he has Billy firing a shot in reply to Garrett's first and then tries to make out billy had a dead cartridge in the chamber which accounts for the shot and no bullet hole. I dont think Billy got to fire a shot that night, he wasn't given a chance. Garrett knew it wasn't a fair fight and even admitted he wasn't looking for it to be fair. Why he even bothered to invent the dead cartridge and billy's reply shot story I don't know because he'd already admitted he was planning on getting Billy as dirty as he could, probably because he knew there was no way he'd survive a fair one with Bonney. Not many people would, if any. You can be sure it went down a lot dirtier than Garrett wrote it up, I'm only surprised it wasn't in the back.

I'VE LIVED IN THE VICINITY FOR 4 YEARS. NO MATTER WHAT THE SEASON, NO BODY WALKS IN SOCKS OR BARE FEET IN THE SOUTH. I WAS 20 MINUTES FROM THE MEXICO BORDER. THE ONLY THING ON THAT GROUND EITHER HAS FANGS, THORNS, OR STINGERS. THE GROUND CRUNCHES BENEATHER YOUR SHOES WITH THORNS, STICKERS, OR SUN DRIED VEGETATION. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SUMMER, WHEN THE SUN IS OUT, YOUR SOLES OF YOUR SHOES ACTUALLY START TO MELT. YOU DON'T STAND STILL FOR LONG OUTSIDE AT ALL. AND ALL THIS TOOK PLACE IN PITCH DARKNESS. INFRARED EYE SIGHT TOO I GUESS. MAYBE ALL THE SNAKES AND SCORPIONS AND RED FIRE ANTS GO TO BED TOO WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN. All it takes is for one action to be proven false to make his whole story lose credibility. I stand with just wanting the TRUTH, but that don't sell.

The man was clearly corrupt and was instrumental in the monopolization of business interests and he strayed far beyond the realms of officer of the law. What gets me is that people like Pat Garrett can brazenly write up a clearly corrupt man as a good man, well liked. Yep, well liked by the people who's pay he was in, no doubt, but I doubt if he was universally well liked. I'd imagine Tunstall wouldn't have had him to dinner for a start. It's shameful that it still goes on today, brazenly corrupt people in politics and business, rigging the rules to suit themselves and setting agenda's that are no good for anyone but them whilst the media tells us all how much great people they are and how we should aspire to be like them. It's not so great when the only reason you're successful is because you own the rule book and set the law - by paying hard cash to people like Brady. Nothing much changes in over a century and thats depressing.

This is a fairly old audio book, before people had access to better information, we know his real name was Henry McCarty because his mothers name before she remarried was Catherine McCarty. His father Patrick McCarty is a mystery.

It was believed he was a very good looking guy from newspaper articles and locals. They said he had light blue eyes, light hair, even features. He didnt look like an outlaw but more like the innocence of a school boy." His gf said this picture didnt do him justice. This was probably just a bad photo of him after his long travels. He gave the picture to his friend and girlfriend. Only one of the tin type pictures exist to this day.

I grew up in NM in the 1950’s. Billy the Kid was not revered. He was thought of as a killer, thief and an outlaw. He was nothing more than that. His brief encounters were nothing more than escapades of ruthless killers. Nothing romantic about killing those people who got caught between his escapades.

Everytime I go to New Mexico. I stop at the Welcome Center. Nothing but Billy the Kid material and even a lifesize cutout of him. So, I guess some people like him in New Mexico. He has a tourist museum of him
