Another tidbit, Peter Chung was the lead animation designer for COPS cartoon as he was for TMNT, that’s why both the intros are stylistically similar and some of his characters designs in COPs lends itself in his future work including Aeon Flux

this cartoon has a very special place in my heart. I was just a VERY young boy in the early 90s and they would still play reruns of these followed by episodes of Good Times and What's Happening on daytime TV. I fell in love with how incredibly detailed the opening theme was. Animators put so much back breaking work into productions back then. I always imagined cops would have made a great live action movie, a la Michael Bay- but with that really creative 1950s mobster/futuristic cyber look. I am so happy they released the box set some years ago. I have this collected on DVD.

I remember being in awe of this show when I first saw it; high concept futuristic law enforcement hit exactly the right spot for me at the time. I don’t remember seeing any of the toys, but I would’ve seen the show several years after the release (born in ‘85). Longarm was my favourite. Seeing it again I’m struck with how atmospheric the music is.

I have the COPS tv series on DVD and I watch it every so often. One thing the Episode where the Drug Dealer comes to town and Big Boss helps the COPS stop the dealer is because what happens is his nephew Berzerko fell into a shipping box of the drug patches and ended up in critical care at the Empire City hospital so Big Boss considered the old saying "An Enemy's enemy is a friend" He was enemies with the drug dealer and he knew the COPS were the drug dealer's enemy too so they teamed up 1 COP with 1 Crook and were able to stop the drug dealer. This show has potential to have a live action remake done just like they have done Live action remakes of Transformers and GIJOE

Love it when Hans Chow gets involved. I wonder how things would have played out if Hasbro and Kenner had stuck with the 1/18 scale format that they had pioneered. If M.A.S.K., C.O.P.S., Inhumaniods, Ghostbusters, Batman, Superfriends, Jurrasic Park, Alien, and Predator had all been compatible with GI Joe and Star Wars how much would have that success fed into a cycle. As long as the tariff war doesn't come to pass I would prefer modern action figures collecting to be the way it is with all the small niche companies putting out product than have Hasbro, Mattel, and Playmates squeezing everyone else out with the same 4 or 5 major evergreen IPs, but I still fantasize about what it would be like if Hasbro ever put together a master 1/18 scale plan.

good history video bro I was in gi joe then, a major mistake to make cops a dif scale though, as some figs and vehicles were tempting looking at them now, they were pretty cool, if only brought to joes s realism a little more, the proportions are all over.... but the design, style, accessories were quite cool! those new ones, 6'? the proportions look waaaay better! I ve suggested a 6' city emergency line to Hasbro, many times, and cops could be a great addition to complete and attract fans. the original idea was to have civilians to mix with legends - gi joe and a city context for scenes - dioramas, to catch the cartoon - movie look at home on mine. [5 dios] so now you know... God bless America and world peace good show bro

Bulletproof was my favorite character because he was the leader of the group. The leader of the group was always the one I liked best tin any show when I was a kid. By the way, I prefer Filmation's version of the Ghostbusters as far as Cartoon shows go as opposed to the Real Ghostbusters. I dunno. It felt more fun. You get what I am saying like modern construction doesn’t flow like the rivets and it’s put together cheaply. So the joints break faster. I was always afraid to move a Star Wars figure’s arm because it was so cheaply made. Very fragile of you use to much force it will snap an arm or leg off. lol 😂

Plus fisher price great to use the castle for the knights so we had so many different toys even snuffs. lol 😂 I also had the 12 inch bionic man he had a Crome arm and there was the million dollar man you could look through his eye. lol 😂 and Tonka had a nice black jeep for 12” figures. C.O.P.S. Worked it was defeated one of the better cartoons of the 80s and toy lines. As you said it was the right show at the right time, airing just after Robocop was in theaters; that cartoon spin off however..:meh. Visionaries and Inhumanoids were both amazing in their own right, especially the latter. That said, without a series with a high episode count that is accessible (meaning it airs regularly and at a decent time) many franchises (Insectaurs anyone) got lost among the plethora of 80s toylines/cartoons. Those others were still competing while GI Joe, Transformers and He-Man still dominated airwaves. In order for anything to really take hold, we would have to wait for those big three to lose interest with viewers. Some did grab a piece of their own like Ghostbusters and M.A.S.K. But again, without a well numbered tv series to showcase the characters, many of those toylines were sadly overlooked.

As with other toy lines of the time, I was annoyed by the lack of female figures. I know the justification that is always given is that female characters didn't sell, but it was still annoying. (And it wasn't like every male character was going to be a sales superstar either.)
