There were so many layers to the 30s...the feedsack prints, the simple patterns that allowed for the usage of the feedsacks...necessity and innovation -- women had to learn to create to dress well and to dress their children. Only the very rich could afford the Hollywood Glamour! I think I love the simple things about the 30s the most...the quilts lovingly stitched, the embroidery. So much more to the decade than the uber luxuriousness. :)

By the Thirties the long pearl necklaces were gone, as demonstrated by Laura. Replaced by beautiful art deco style bracelets. The neck area left bare. Flowery corsages often featured on the lapel.

Hell, I say bring back this type of fashion. Classy but a certain simplicity that can’t be seen much anymore in modern society

I totally agree the 21st Century does not seem to have any Glamorous Fashion going on. Maybe those Days are over and how sad.

How many people actually dressed like this? And how did the Great Depression impact?

Almost everyone was affected by the depression; but the wealthy and the super-rich could still afford to dress like this.

Clothing had become more accessible during the 20s with the rise of mass production. Dress patterns were also very popular as most women could sew. In high fashion, couture houses were forced to slash their prices to keep afloat. The majority of people would have been decently dressed regardless of wealth, but few were walking around in silk crepe and wrapped in fox fur.

I love the 30's fashions. I'd love to have seen a ladies tailored suit featured though - they had some gorgeous suits during that era.

Too bad the young ladies weren't wearing slips. Seeing their undergarments spoils the look of the dress.

Fur might have used but at a terrible cost to animals they were killed cruelly. That been said I have no problem using new Zealand possum fur they are an introduced pest. Again should not be cruelly killed
