In 1962, at just 14 years old, Mike witnessed the use of vintage World War Two navy rafts for floating and fishing in these untamed waters. By the age of 17, he was already guiding fishermen on these rivers, and his stories from that time are truly captivating.

My wife, 3 young kids and I rafted the Snake below Jackson Hole. My son, about 8, almost got ejected in a rapid. Thank God I was able to catch him!

Nope! I watch all these young guys talk about using streamer flies like it's a new deal. Back in the mid 70's we tied skunks and a special muddler with yellow body and silver wrap. Also I know Jack Dennis when he was a teenager he tie me some giant humpyies. Old Jack spent his early teens tying flies at Boots Allen Fort Jackson Store in the summer and he lived in Casper. Jack and I go way back in the 60's a great fly fisherman. I would go in and talk about fly fishing with Jack and buy his Humpy flies 1963. But in the 60's tied those streamers and used a short leader lead core line to get my streamer down. Because all they had was a floating line then. I still have them in a pouch and have these lead core leader in different length which I used in different depth on rivers. I could go on but you get where I'm cme from. I hade it went the history is forgotten. Mike Eastman
