This is my idea on the history of the papers please continent, this isnt official.

I liked this one, also how you can see the impact of the real world's events on this mini continent, like the fall of the Russian Empire and the Japanese Empire dominating the Pacific.

705: The Polynesians are exploring the pacific looking for new islands to settle soon they land on the southern peninsula of a new continent and begin to explore the island 1200: After 500 years of culture on the island the most populated region on the island has advanced enough that new empires are forming 1300: The new Enkio Empire conquers the southern Arepa Kingdom while the Impo people found many smaller city-states 1400: The Impo people unite into the Impo Empire to challenge the Enkio Empire 1500: After a war, the Impo Empire conquers the Enkio Empire uniting the south 1600: A city is founded off the coast of this landmass and creates the trading kingdom of Tanatu 1691: Back in 1567 The Spanish sailor Álvaro de Mendaña de Neira stumbled on the continent not much happened until Spain decided to establish a colony in Tanatu and after spreading smallpox to the natives the kingdom collapsed and the Spanish founded the city of Carlos II named after the Spanish king 1693: The king of the Impo Empire dies of the smallpox epidemic causing a civil war between Erepunanuis and Panauames 1695: The Spanish capitalize on the civil war to expand the colony now called Carlostierra and conquer the Impo people 1698: The Spanish conquest is over 1700: Thousands of Impo people survived and fled to the hilliest areas to raid the Spanish 1701: The Attacks destroyed the colony tho a few Spanish settlers stayed behind and became the Lejanos 1779: On James cooks third voyage he arrived on the landmass, claiming it for England and calling it New Georgia as the American revolution was still a thing 1784: With Britain having lost the American revolution many settlers arrived in New Georgia 1786: The Lejanos form a bunch of Republics 1788: With Russia exploring the North Pacific they founded a colony as a hub for Siberia, Alaska, and East Asian trade also naming the continent Urkonea 1810: Inspired by the American Revolution a group called the Green Hat Army revolted in New Georgia. While the revolt was put down it led to more attention in the colony 1820: By now the Colonies population had grown to the point it was now Self-sufficient and want to avoid a second rebellion the British gave the colony autonomy and divided it into 6 states 1826: With Russia focusing on Alaska it was essential to take all of Urkoneas northern coastline 1831: Spain finally returns to the island believing that they still owned their claim 1867: A conference is held in Europe to divide up Urkonea between the British, Russians, Japanese, and Germans (Spain was overlooked) with Britain getting the east, Russia the north, Japan the south as the colony of Imporo-o, and Germany the East as Karlsland 1890: Spain leaves Urkonea 1906: The provinces of Glorian and Lesrandi are united into the Dominion of Republica 1911: British Urkonea is redrawn 1914: WW1 Begins Karlsland is soon taken over by Russia and Japan 1916: The Russian Empire is collapsing from defeats with the Germans, With this, a part of Urkonea forms the Vadimian Socialist Council and breaks away from Russia 1917: The February Revolution begins as the Tsar is overthrown but many oppose the new government and declare independence as the Independent State of Urkonea 1918: Chaos as Socialist revolts begin in Urkonea and a large Turkic Minority Revolts as Far Turkestan 1919: Far Turkestan invades the White army while the Urkonean Black army declares an anarchist state 1920: The White army is kicked out and the Republic of Obristan is declared. In the east, the Socialists made peace and unite to form the Union of Arstotzka before immediately being invaded by Japan 1921: Japan sweeps through Arstotzka and invades the anarchist state, also the Yellow Cross Fighters revolt against Urkonea 1922: Japan takes advantage of the Urkonean revolt also the Vadimian Socialist Council is invaded and destroyed 1923: The Chaos ends with Japan having conquered the east and the Yellow Cross Fighters declare the state of Kolechia 1924: The communists in obristan revolt but are soon put down 1934: Japan stages an incident on the Obristan border and invades taking some land 1940: Japan invades the rest of Urkonea for resources 1943: All of the nations fall except for a small part of Obristan which fights out for as long as possible 1944: The war turns in favor of the allies and American troops counter attack 1945: Japan surrenders and Imporo-o is divided between the Americans and the Soviets with the Americans establishing Impor and South Charlesland, and the Soviets founding Arstotzka and North Charlesland. The Republic of Donosza is established as a neutral zone 1947: American troops leave Donosza 1948: The UN pressures the USSR to leave Donosza this leads to Kolechia invading and annexing the state 1949: Republica officially becomes independent from Britain 1950: The Charlesland crisis begins as American and Soviet troops clash in Charlesland 1951: Britain's colonies declare independence 1952: The former British colonies excluding Republia and Antegria unite into the United Federation 1953: The Charlesland crisis ends with America leaving Urkonea giving the Imporian republic independence and Charlesland is annexed by Kolechia 1954: The Soviets leave with the Peoples Republic of Arstotzka now a Soviet Puppet 1955: The last British colony becomes West Antegria which becomes disputed between the UF and Antegria 1956: The Two Year war begins between Antegria and Arstotzka ending with the city of Grestin becoming a neutral zone 1962: The UN ruled that West Antegria is part of the UF ending the dispute 1973: The Six-Year War begins as Arstotzka and Kolechia fight over Grestin 1981: The war ends in a ceasefire but never a peace treaty with Grestin occupied and a wall is built 1982: A border checkpoint is opened for Arstotzkan citizens to return and the game Papers Please begins

I think not because it took many years for Japan to conquer the entire peninsula and by 1945,ww2 has ended so I think Usa managed to gained air and sea control in the pacific and trap the japanese forces in the peninsula while aiding obristan against the trap japanese forces

It would be a good idea to make the countries exists in Southern Eastern Europe since it has a similar layout as the map For example, the United federation would be located in Yugoslavia (Modern day Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia, etc.) and Arstotzka would be located in western Ukraine.
