In part two from our Regency Renovation project on the history of period wallpaper, Lena talks about the use of vintage wallpapers on period panel doors. Again wallpaper designs from lincrusta, lignomur and anaglypta have been used and she highlights another variation called cameoid. On the final door panel Lena enlightens us on a very rare example from interior designer Dr Christopher Dresser - a style once featured in the residence of a significant historical American figure.
Helena Brazil researches and consults on the history and restoration of Lincrusta and embossed raised relief wall-coverings. She is also a student at the University of Lincoln studying for a PhD in the history of Lincrusta and the other embossed raised relief wall-coverings of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

I really don't think it can be overstated how much Late Victorian and Edwardian England changed the arc of history. Not just the industrial part, but culturally and artistically as well. One of my dream trips for post COVID is to tour through Great Britain and learn more about this period. It's the foundation of the world we know today.

As you work throughout the project are you keeping the wallpaper in place and do you have to repair or replace any missing paper with similar products to suit the conservation officers.

The only history I know about wall paper is you put it up and then you strip it off and every one hates wood chip though it must of been popular as it’s every where
