Dude at first when I saw this video I was sceptical about the research but after further digging, I realised that everything (I think) is accurate! I really appreciate your effort and the fact that you stated your sources. This is one of the most informative videos about the history of Romania. As a Romanian, I love your work and appreciate that someone has actually looked into our history rather than glancing over it. Thank you so much

Question:what's your opinion on the theory that Vlachs moved to were is now modern Romania after 1000s??do you think is fake or to some form true?
@zalmoxe_01 Жыл бұрын
It is false, and this is proven by the Gesta Hungarorum and Nestor's chronicle, which say that the Vlachs lived in the Carpatho-Danubian-Pontic territory (Romania Area) long before the arrival of the Hungarians in Pannonia, and they arrived in 895, so what do you think?
@flavi9692 Жыл бұрын
as a romanian i'm extremely happy
@Karabarsz Жыл бұрын
@@zalmoxe_01 dunno about the other, but I know that gestas are not historical, but literature works, they have no weight on history. Gesta Hungarorum was written in the 13th century about the 9th in a non-historical genre, and it contains names for kings and dukes that are unknown for all the other neighbouring sources. It also highly focused on the hungarian's hunnic origin, which is not supported by historians. So how can it prove anything, especially something which isn't even its focus?
@thieph11 ай бұрын
@@Karabarsz Gesta Hungarorum was wrote much earlier than today interpretations, so saying that they forget entiely what happened few centuries ago is not that rational. Genetic studies shows that Szekely people have a genetic composition closer to their romanian neighbours rather than hungarians from Hungary, many of them have I1/I2 haplogroup, hungarians have R1A. Some documents attest this mixture if I am not wrong in Gesta Hungarorum, "Szekely are hungarians mixed with vlachs", so this mixture is because hungarians came and assimilated some romanians this proves why romanians are a majority. Why would hungarians let so many vlachs to settle in "their land"? Lol
@Karabarsz11 ай бұрын
@@thieph 1. "They lived more closer to it, they must've known it better." The cavemen lived closer to the dinosaurs than us. Same with medieval people. Yet we, modern folks, know more of them and more precisely. It means nothing. We, modern humans have archeology, what the older generations didn't. Especially people from the 13th century. But the biggest problem is, that there were actual sources written in the 10th century about the 10th century, and the Gesta Hungarorum contradicts it. This with the fact that Anonymus was not a historian and Gestas is literature not historical writing should be more than enough to highlight the issues with that writing. 2. "Szekelys have closer genes to Romanians than to modern Hungarians." First of all, I'm happy to inform you, that Szekelys lived on the Frank/German (West) border originally and were moved to the East in the 12th-13th century. This highlight the issue with genetics. Old data is hard to decipher from it, genes usually showcase recent neighbours, not the old ones, as the genes shift and get replaced over time. So Szekelys having more "Romanian" genes only mean that they live next to Romanians. It does not indicate that they got it when Hungarians came here in the 9th century. Plus modern Hungarians have genes like Austrians, Slovaks and Romanians as well. Romanians have genes similar to Bulgarians. Neighbouring communities merg/mix. Szekelys having similar genes than Romanians doesn't means Romanians were always majority (nor they are currently, despite they actually being the majority nowadays). But historic sources usually indicate that Vlachs weren't treated as natives, while there were ethnic groups that were treated as natives. This is probably due to Vlachs coming latter. Soon after Saxons and Szekelys. This is supported by Byzantine and Ottoman sources. Also the Gesta Hungarorum does not say Szekelys are hungarians+romanians, so you remember wrong there. Romanians are Romans who lived in the Byzantine Empire. Near the Albanians, evidence for this is the Albanian subtratum in the Romanian and the Byzantine sources. Then came the Bulgarians. Then the Cumans. After the Mongols/Tatars crushed today's Romania's territories (including Transylvania), Vlachs were imported and soon they became majority.
