My 3rd generational grandfather was one of those guys going to California around the Horn. He was a map maker and architect. He created the first map of California based on measured surveys. “The Goddard map” 1856. He wrote about the journey from England to California. I think San Juan was the last to acquire fresh supplies. I own his 1890 painting of a high Sierra landscape. Going to California in 1850 was one of the great adventures of history. They were not on a pleasure cruise , they only stopped if necessary. And San Juan del Sur was a necessary stop. PS: I retired and live there now.

Nicaragua signed its Declaration of Independence in 1821 with the other Central American countries, it was not in 1850. It was a Federal Republic until mid 1830’s. Other than those two mistakes your video was very good and the old pictures great.

San Juan del Sur was discovered by Andres Niño, not Andrew Child. Names and last names shall not be translated. Costa Rica name is not Rich Coast. Colorado name is not “Reddish.

Discovered? More like invaded like you two have done.

Who hasn’t been a invader? I’m sure the folks watching armies of Mayans coming over the hill on their search for slaves weren’t too happy about it.
