We are considering moving to San Juan Del Sur from South Africa in the the nexrt year or so with our 2 daughters (9 and 11). Our kids safety and future is one of the biggest reasons and this beautiful area and its awesome looking school would be perfect. Its a long way from home, especially having elderly parents, but life is short and i think the move and experience would be great for all of us. Cant wait to come over for a 'scouting' trip in the near future.
@GrowingUpWithoutBorders4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about post secondary school for your girls or curricular. The grade school there from what everyone says is amazing! You'll love the community there too. I'm sure there are many things you'll dearly miss from SA though. A scouting trip is a perfect idea before you make any big decisions. San Juan is so close to Costa Rica, you can check it out too.
@innit14074 жыл бұрын
@@GrowingUpWithoutBorders Thanks, it's probably the biggest decision we will ever make in our lives so its comforting getting positive feedback. And well done to you for the adventure you have taken your kids on. They will be so much richer for the experience. Most of us are scared to leave our comfort zones 😅
@Drskopf4 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea just to go for a short time to see if you will like it... Don't bring heavy jackets bc almost never gets cold, unless you want to go hike mountains on the North side of the Country near the border Honduras or if you want to go to Costa Rica, a fleece a sweater or Hoodie will do it... Paisito (as we call it sometimes) is a safe country compare to others. From I've seen in the news SA is having a big issue with burglary and theft and friction between whites and blacks (that's sad) I hope for the best and like in Nica everything gets resolved quick and people can go back to their regular lives. Greetings 🖐️

Lived there for a month in January a few years back. The wind was constant and ferocious every single day. Was told it was like that the entire winter due to the fact that the Atlantic/Caribbean is much warmer than the Pacific in that area and it creates significant wind due to the differences in barometric pressure. When it calmed down to 30 mph we considered it a good day. I saw wind take surfboards down the beach, saw the wind blow a metal table off a porch and trying to use the beach at 60mph was not pleasant, nor was trying to use the water with a 60mph wind chill. People were very nice, there was a strong sense of civic commitment and food prices were outstanding and the food was excellent. I also participated in releasing at least 200 turtles which was very cool. Just be advised about the wind.
@GrowingUpWithoutBorders4 жыл бұрын
Oh yes. I heard that the wind picks up during the winter months. We left right when these conditions would have changed so we didn’t experience any of this.

I live in sjds for 5 years, moving back in 2 weeks. (Playa Marsella). The wind didn’t bother me that much.. it doesn’t stay windy 24/7… is worse at the playa, not bad inland , except up on a hill, like at naked tiger. . It beats the hell out of the tundra of New England.. I’m getting to despise the states.. you can have my share. I’m out of here.

Many expats and retirees want to live in san juan del sur but where do they meet? I have no idea. When you walk through the city you mainly see backpackers. There are bars for backpackers and some for nicaraguan people and at the beach front it is more for families. Not many places where expats or retirees can meet, maybe bar republika or that sports bar near rositas. Please let me know more places if you know them.
@GrowingUpWithoutBorders3 жыл бұрын
Walk into the local real estate offices and ask around. That’s usually the best since they have met and know all the local expats.

Lots of beautiful properties in Nicaragua. However, no one talks about the growing elephant in the room. Nicaragua is going the way of Cuba and Venezuela. Buying a property is easy and cheap. Keeping the property is another thing. I’m now in the fifth year of a lawsuit to restore my ownership of a family property that was stolen by a Nicaraguan using a forged power of attorney. The court system is slow or unresponsive and subject to arbitrary decisions. Think long and hard before buying real estate in Nicaragua. Caveat emptor!

Everything is fine with that, .Nicaragua is a very welcoming country with lots opportunities, that cannot be achieve even in the U.S.A.; here is the prove, but what bothers me is the hipocracy of their current government & some of their people with immigrants, not a fair game in comparison, there is also the derogatory criticism of living conditions, as if some states withing the United States., didn't have similar problems or worse, like some parts of Puerto Rico; now for years, since the hurricane with no water or electricity, New Orleans as well & the mosquitoes have you been to Miami or Texas, shame on the so called 1rst world country, that not even during the pandemic had they fumigated the streets, at least not in the best city in the world, as they like to call NYC., now growing up in Nicaragua in the 80s, . That was done at least twice a week & it still been done by the Army, how is that for facts, lets be conscious, aware grateful & treat others with respect & equality everywhere.
@GrowingUpWithoutBorders4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this insightful comment. I agree with you about the let’s treat everyone with respect and equality everywhere and if the govt doesn’t than at least amongst the people it can be done.

White Sandy beaches and clear water.. there's plenty to explore... Cuando regrese a nica voy a intentar escalar algún volcán tal vez maderas en Ometepe .. espero te guste el calor ...
