The best Saturday morning shows were the super friends, the Charlie Brown and Snoopy show and Spiderman and his amazing friends

Two things killed the quality of Saturday morning cartoons: when the studios wrote and animated shows for kids and not adults and the when the cartoons were made because of a toy on the shelf and not a toy was created because of a good cartoon.

Most of your guys favorite cartoons is on the new metv toons network over the air.

Actually, Cartoon Network predated Boomerang. Boomerang didn't pop up till the late 90s when Directv, Dish and Super Basic cable was a thing.

You are the first person that noticed (And mentioned) that lol, I thought I'd throw it in for fun. W.H. is an interesting project, and I wanted to give it a nod, and I figured this was a good place to mention it, given the topic if the video.

George Lucas single handedly created the idea of merchandising Toys for movie/TV properties in 1977. That's why the 1980s explosion of cartoons as 22 minute commercial for Toys and other merch.

I did not know that, Maybe I'll discuss it in a quickie or something... Thanks!

The original Planet of the Apes movies did it first.

Yes and no. Kids shows and movies had toy lines in the past. Star Wars unintentionally shifted the business model of kids' entertainment. Before Star Wars the merchandise was "the side business", but Star Wars turned it into "the business".

@harrisd1983 George made nearly all of his fortune in marketing his star wars brand, and he held 100% if the profits from that merchandising. Mel Brooks even made it a punch line in space balls. The term block buster came into the vernacular because of the lines around the block for every cinema star wars was shown at. George was a key figure in the late 70s of transition if the old Hollywood studio model to the one we are all familiar with today. But any walk through the aisles of Ollie's will tell you that that system is dead today.

@@Rickydiculus i know. He built a mansion and financed Empire Strikes Back with the money from toys. That proves my point. Fox let Lucas hold on to the rights to the merchandise rights because they were perceived to have so little value
