History of Spain 6: Middle Ages V - The Catholic Monarchs vs. the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada
While in the Nazari/Nasrid Kingdom of Granada Al-Ahmar built the mythical Alhambra, in the Christian kingdoms something was changing. With the arrival in Castile of Alfonso XI and Aragón de Pedro the Ceremonious begins an authoritarian drift in the kings that would give rise to the monarchical Absolutism. Aragon began to expand throughout the Mediterranean, conquering Sicily, Sardinia, Naples and the duchies of Athens and Neopatria with the Almogavars.
After defeating Pedro the Cruel, Enrique II arrived at the Castilian throne and gave beginning to the dynasty of the Trastámara. New institutions were created, such as the Royal Council, the Royal Audience or the Chancery. For his part, Carlos III the Noble of Navarre built the Royal Palace of Olite.
But bad times came for Aragon. The Black Death left all sleeve by shoulder, with people dying all the time. One of his victims was Martín el Humano, who died without descendants and through the Commitment of Caspe, Fernando de Antequera, of the Trastámara, had to be named king. One of his descendants would be Ferdinand the Catholic. A conflict with Carlos, the prince of Viana, originated the Navarre Civil War and then the Catalan Civil War, between the Biga and the Busca, the peasants of Remensa and a lot more rock.
Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella I of Castile fought for the throne against Henry the Impotent and then against Juana la Beltraneja and Alfonso V of Portugal. They succeeded and then decided to aim their new guns against the Kingdom of Granada, which they conquered thanks to the disputes between Muley Hacén and his son Boabdil el Chico. In addition, a guy named Christopher Columbus discovered a new continent: America.
