This is it! My grandfather was the treasurer for browning for 40 years (Richard L Beckstead) and gift my parents this shotgun for the wedding present. It was passed on to me and unfortuntaly the gun was stolen. I had the dragon black with the channel rib barrel. It kills me that it's gone, I've been trying to track down another one to replace it. Thanks so much for this video! It's so hard to find info on these guns!

I’m a member of Michigan Antique Arms Collectors, MAAC, and occasionally stumble across a Browning Twelvette, as you described. I’ve owned several over the years, and currently own a “Twenty Weight” made in 1960. If you’re serious about finding one, you should reach out to our club.

You guys are second to none. My dad's 1970 A5 looks immaculate since we've got it back, and he couldn't be happier. Brad is one of the best customer service guys that I have ever dealt with. His brother Nick replaced the springs in my 1972 Magnum A5, all while explaining their processes for restoration.

I Love my Double Automatics. I have one in steel and one aluminum! Both i got from dealers that did not know what it was. The steel one was 60 dollars, but needed a new stock/butt. I have 3 barrels, one with the cutts compensator that has the interchangable chokes, that truely feels like the hottest shotgun acessory of the 60s! All My friends love shoting with them thanks to the light recoil, and they always reloads even 28g shells! Not all auto shotguns does that reliably, even today!

thanks for the video, im tryin to learn more about the gun. I just inherited a browning double automatic, from my grandfathers brother, serial number fnc 22 9xx. i got 2 barrels to it, one whit rail and one whitout, the plain barrel has an ajustable choke on the end ( the Poly Choke co. super. hartford conn. PAT. PEND.) i have never seen an ajustable choke before, i guess it has been mountet at the gun shop where he brought the gun. but thanks again for the video now im able to date the gun. and im looking forward to get it to the to the shooting range again, beeing able to tell the full story behind this gun.

If you duck hunt in timber This is a ideal gun . Most times you only get 2 shots in range . I have had many occasions where ducks got away while trying to get a shell loaded into a "popular" shotgun.

Seems your the man that might answer my question. I have a Browning 2000 in 12 and one in 20 ga. Being left handed I've enjoyed these two guns for years, however I've decided to somewhat retire them so I purchased a new Silver in 20 ga. I note on the 2000 the bolt is forced back by the gas system being connected. However on the Silver there is no connection between the gas system an the bolt, the bolt seems to recoil into a spring in the butt stock like an inertia gun. My questions are: which is better and is the Silver a true gas system or is it there just to meditate recoil?

Great video for a new double auto owner! I recently purchased a steel version which, according to this video, was made in 1957. My gun has what appears to be gold inlay on the engraving which I haven’t seen on many others. I’m just curious if this was likely done by a previous owner or if they ever came from the factory that way? Thanks for any and all help

My father gave me his double Auto when I turned 12 and I've hunted with it ever since. I never minded the two shots the game limit around here is two birds anyway.

I own one and I am a skeet shooter. I love mine and will always hang on to it, BUT...the failure was predictable. Target shooters generally like a heavier gun, for recoil reduction and for follow through. The Double Automatic is light (aluminum version) and feels, to me, a bit "whippy". Recoil is reasonable, for a 12 ga, as you state BUT remember that skeet shooters often fire as many as 500 shells in an afternoon. A heavier gun reduces recoil fatigue more. Target shooters are not going to be attracted to a gun advertised as a "Twelvette" or a "Twentyweight". The gun has a 2 shot capacity which pretty much sunk it's use for hunting, where the light weight excels. 2 shots is plenty for target shooting, but the features it had did not lend itself to what target shooters want. It was a target gun with hunting gun features...light weight. It was a hunting gun with target features 2-3/4" chambers. Hunters wanted 3" capability. It was not available in any gauges but 12. Skeet shooters desire to have guns in 12, 20, 28, .410. Trap shooters use the 12 exclusively, but the Double Auto is no trap gun. Sporting clays? Wasn't around at that time, and O/Us excel at that game because of the ability to have two (interchangeable) chokes. I love the Brownings. I still use my Double Auto. I also use a Browning A-5 and B2000. All of them have the speed loading, the B2000 has the side loading port, but it is a steel receiver. (Yes, Double Autos can be found in steel but they still have very little weight forward) The B2000 is my favorite. It is all the Double Auto should have been.

Thank you for the video. I just heard about this shotgun from another youtube channel's owner who recommended this shotgun as a cheap/inexpensive undervalued collectible shotgun. I've owned Brownings for over 30 years and never heard of this as mentioned. Thanks for the recommendation regarding the channel grove or vent rib. Are there any other features that would make a Double Auto more rare than others. I really enjoy your channel's videos for the content and history lessons.

As Brownings go, the more common Double Auto versions are relatively cheap. In good condition, the go for $400 on Gunbroker. One in really good condition, or more rare, may sell for up to $1000. Still fairly inexpensive.

Question: Are standard 1-1/4oz field loads ok to shoot in the Twelvette? I just got one that’s in good shape, but some people say to shoot nothing heavier than 1-1/8oz loads as anything heavier is too abusive to the gun. Great video.

I just discovered this gun and they are gorgeous guns. I am looking for a gun to go Turkey hunting. The color I wanted was a brass and green color. I came across photos of the Browning double auto in forest green. What price is a good price to buy? I found one for $1,400. Is that a good price? It's used and I will actually use it. But it's a lot of money. Thank you for the video.

Check out Gunbroker. These guns ALL have 2-3/4" chambers which will limit your turkey load selection. They ARE light, attractive and reliable.

You can buy them all day long in pawn shops around here for $3-400 bucks. They are kind of an oddball gun and nobody really wants them. An Army buddy of mine bought one a while back for $250 but the wood needed refinishing.

I talked to a guy at Browning and he said they were basically designed for bird hunting in England. He said because of the laws you could only have a rifle/ shotgun that held 2 shots. True?

Safe, gun cabinet, gun case, gun sock, or wall hook. Just not an attic, because of the moisture.

Why would you want an auto shotgun that only shoots twice?
@garyK.45ACP
@garyK.45ACP 6 жыл бұрын
They were marketed to target shooters. Target shooters only load two shells (at most) at any time. A two shot gun is absolutely no handicap to a target shooter. The Remington autos (11-48, 58 Sportsman and, later, M1100) were all the rage at the time. Browning offered this as a classier (Browning!) sexier, autoloading target gun...and it IS all of that. But it is also too light in the forend for target shooters and limited capacity for hunters. Beautiful gun, a classic, but it did not EXCEL at anything except looking good!

For quail hunting two shots were fine. No quail to hunt anymore. Toxic Chemicals like Paraquat and Glyphosate used in No-till farming wiped them all out by the early 90s.

Why do you need more? Plenty of people are both happy and successful hunting and shooting clays with over and unders and side by sides and they only shoot twice.

@@trevorn9381 Never hunted quail but always admired the bird and its hunters. My dad was a farmer and once back in the 1980’s when I was a teenager, was out on a farm trying to get a shot at Mr. Ground Hog who was putting the hurt on the soybeans in this particular field. This quail ran in front of me dragging its wing like it was injured. I followed it to see if it was indeed hurt. Then, to my surprise, the quail took flight. So, I turned around and started back towards the ground hog area when I noticed these little baby quail running on the ground. The quail had lead me away from her young without any fear of me being a person.
