Hey Greg, long time fan here (like been watching since before I could drink long time), I want you to know that because of you and this show I actually collected makeshift barware over the years (a rocks glass from a trip to the JD distillery, a pint glass from the dollar store with 10 basic recipes for cocktails {not using those ofc, you have covered them all so when I try them id rather your recipes, but its cute}, a stolen half a tin and hawthorn strainer from an Applebee's marg, a shot glass my girlfriend got me from her vacation from the Bahamas {cuz I don't have a jigger yet}) And with this contraption of a Bar I actually made Daiquiris for my D&D group, it was defiantly a first time deal but it was so much fun and what I liked was in the glass! I just want to thank you for introducing me to this wonderful world of cocktails as a proper hobby, I raise my glass to you sir!

This is why I watch and love this channel. I for some reason never would've thought of using aged rums to make a daiquiri.
@RichardCranium3214 жыл бұрын
Intensifying & adding complexity via aged rum is a good variation, just remember to increase/intensify other ingredients accordingly or it will indefinitely overpower the tang/sweet from the citrus & somehow it ends up almost more watered down tasting... I messed up a couple first trying it, I just set them aside until later in the night 😊
@ryanplunkett33094 жыл бұрын
@@RichardCranium321 Would you then cut down the citrus and simple when using an unaged? I've usually gone 3/4, 3/4, 2 for but this video had me thinking of going to 1, 1, 2

@@ryanplunkett3309 if you like to have any of your spirits come through in the final product then stick w 3/4up/2, otherwise, if you want to hide the spirit, go 1/1/2 & shake THEN pour over crushed. Also, another tasty one is caramel apple kiss (if you'd like the mix)....

Well this video is well-timed! I'm headed to Havana on Sunday. The first thing you made is what they now call a "Ron Collins" in Cuba... it's a daiquiri on ice (topped up with soda, usually, like a Tom Collins). A real Cuban daiquiri will be the first thing I order when I get to the Hotel Nacional and light up a Partagas Series P No 2 on the patio that overlooks the Malecon.

A real daiquiri, like the 2nd drink he made, is one of life's simple pleasures, a great canvas to experiment with how subtle changes in the ratios can change the balance of a drink and a fun way to experiment with different rums: a Flor de Cana 4 Year daiquiri, a Smith & Cross daiquiri and an El Dorado 15 year daiquiri are very different beasts.

Greg, have you ever had a barbados rum punch? It's basically a daiquiri but with grated nutmeg and a few decent shakes of bitters. Mount Gay's recipe was my favorite while I was there. 1.5oz gold rum (mount gay eclipse rum) 1oz demerara syrup 0.5oz fresh lime juice 2-3 shakes of bitters Grated nutmeg Water to taste I like crushed ice for this drink but its it's also excellent when made neat. This is one of my favorite go to drinks, it's very easy to make pitchers of it in advance and has been a huge hit at parties. This drink is seriously worth it's own video.

Ah, old Jennings. We took our eight year old son to Marco Pierre White's for lunch and 'cocktails' a few years ago. The youngster was merrily drinking his way through the list of virgin cocktails, and the sommelier took a bit of a shine to the family thanks to the wee'un's desire to keep up with his parents in the (rather expensive, virgin) cocktail drinking stakes. My better half ordered a daiquiri and the sommelier decided to give us a potted history, "This is one of the most famous cocktails in the world, first made by Jennings Cox..." My son, as quick as a lighting bolt said... "I wish he'd used his hands like anyone else." The sommelier walked off, twitching as if he'd got an insect in his inner ear.

I quite enjoy this type of daiquiri - what I like to do, which might not be quite as "authentic" is make up a big batch of sweet and sour mix (half equal parts fresh lemon and lime juice, half simple syrup) and use that to blend up whatever liquor I might fancy with it. Whiskey=whiskey sour, amaretto=amaretto sour, tequila and a little agave syrup and/or orange liqour = margarita, rum=daiquiri, vodka/gin=Collins.
