Yes! Hobgoblin, Doc Ock, Venom, Sandman, and The-Lizard-in-a-Labcoat were always my favorite villains from the cartoon. I'm glad we've gotten cool versions of Ock, Sandman, and the Lizard, but I'm still waiting for the Hobgoblin and a good Venom. I'm STILL pissed about Amazing Spider-Man 2 lying about the Rhino, too; that version of hinm was such a cool idea, and they featured him in every commercial and poster just to give us nothing.

I still got the tattoo in my copy. As a teen in the 80s I worked in a comic book shop with a buddy. We got paid in comic books and the first appearance of the Hobgoblin was one of the comics I spent my credit on. The mystery about who was the Hobgoblin was something we all talked about at the time.

1:08 Marvel never explained a huge plot holes, Kingsley appeared in issue ASM 249/250 being blackmailed by the Hobgoblin, Spiderman even visits him. His "thought" bubbles even goes so far as to prove he isn't the Hobgoblin because he's trying to figure out how to fix the situation with the blackmail.

Hobgoblin is probably the most underrated Spider-Man villain. He was basically Spider-Man's arch enemy in the early and mid eighties. Very dangerous and cunning villain; should he higher on Spidey's greatest villains list than Sandman or Rhino.

I had an issue when I discovered this guy was able to recreate the goblin formula without the insanity side effect. I assumed the only man capable of doing that was Osbourne himself. Now, when I told this to my comic-historian friend he assured me “oh no Osborne was plenty crazy even without the formula there’s no way he could’ve developed an insanity-free formula”

Those are my thoughts as well. Kingsley is a fashion designer and not a chemist. A formula that volatile would require extensive research to understand and to get it right to work without the psychological effects.

I learned about Spider-Man and his villians from the 90s cartoon. While I learned they got it backwards I thought it was great how they worked out the idea. The Hobgoblin being little more then a thug hired by Osborne to kill Wilson Fisk and decked out with a bunch of cool gear. Since the show depicted Osborne less as a villain and more like a guy who got in too deep with the wrong people it made more sense he would get someone else to do the work and not himself. Plus having Mark Hamill voice him was just awesome.
