You could have made it very clear that Illyrians were not Slavs, and the most likely descendants of Illyrians were our neighbors the Albanians. The old Egyptian flag of an Eagle holding a Snake is also reflected in the Modern Mexican flag, denoting the Constellations of Serpentis (13th sign of the Zodiac) and Aquila. The dimensions & 12 mathematical constants of the Great Pyramid are also expressed in New Grange, & Stonehenge, as well as in Watson Brake, (2500BC) & Teotihuacan, which correlates to the Phoenician/ Sumerian Seximal system, which is what our modern systems of time are based on, unlocking a fractal pattern reflected in the musical chord, electrical resistance, relative Planetary orbits, indeed; throughout _all_ creation. Officially no one knows who invented Astrology, the Zodiac, navigation by the stars, or time keeping. But whoever built the pyramids, & pioneered the 24hr clock in Egypt 5000 years ago already knew the exact dimensions of the Earth, & the speed of light. Illyricum was always very important recruiting ground for the Romans even at the end. Losing Illyricum to the Eastern Roman Empire in 395 was a major blow. Stillicho tried to somehow get it back with the help of Alaric.

The Illyrian language is said to have possibly survived and adapted into Albanian. The word Ilir means free, the Latinization of Illyr could have caused these letters to change. Also 11:28 Agron is still a name used in Albania, especially Teuta 11:57. Teuta (at least today) is not pronounced "Toota" but more "Te-oo-ta". Both names are still used today in Albania. Naturally we cannot be certain of pronunciation with how much the language has changed over the thousands of years.

To make a documentary about the Illyrians, and not having the courage to elaborate on their direct descendants until our days, is an intellectual weakness and a superficial approach to the issue. It is unprofessional to include their heirs in just one sentence, "as a result of modern nationalist movements"! - Sometimes there is one kind of defensive nationalism that can simultaneously be based on some scientific truth. Is there proof that Albanians are the descendants of the ancient Illyrians? Yes, there is proof: 1: Albanian has words from the ancient Doric dialect. Why is this proof? Well, Doric‐Greek went extinct 2000 years ago, meaning that those words, even if they are loanwords must have entered at least 2000 years ago. This proves that Albanians must have lived close to Dorians (or the Dorians themselves were part of their Illyrian origin). 2: The Albanian vocabulary consists of a high percentage of Latin (Vulgar) loanwords. Meaning that Albanians must have lived in, or close to a place where Latin (Vulgar) was spoken. 3: We do actually have some remnants of the Illyrian language. I introduce Messapic: Messapic inscriptions. Messapic was an Illyrian dialect and it does show simulaties only with Albanian. 4: Albanians (or Arbanians) were first mentioned by Hecataeus of Miletus (550-476 BCE) under the name Abroi (Ἄβροι), Arboi, Abros (since 6th century BCE, in fragment 69 of Periodos ges, cited by Stephanus of Byzantium in 6th century CE). The name of the tribe is recorded in Ancient Greek as Abroi. But Ptolemy (egyptian astronomer, mathematician, and geographer) is the first authors who mentions them under the name Albanoi, in 150AD (2nd century CE), in his geography he cites the "Albanoi" as an Illyrian tribe living in Albanopolis, Macedonia (now central Albania). From a single tribe the name spread to include the rest of the country as Arbëri and, finally, Albania. The archaeological site of Zgërdhesh, thought to be the site of the ancient city of Albanopolis, city of the Illyrian Albanoi tribe. It's a huge site, with well preserved walls & towers, & the remains of stepped 'streets' cut from the rock. 5: Those few language elements which are known as Illyrian can be explained through the Albanian language, and no other. Linguists point out many technical similarities between Illyrian and Albanian words. Illyrian toponyms, ancient Illyrian place names for cities, rivers, and mountains, are preserved today in the Albanian language, and only in Albanian. The names of Balkan villages usually lasted only a few centuries, for villages were often destroyed altogether during wartime. Cities lasted longer, so their names were usually older. But rivers, lakes and mountains endured through the centuries, and their ancient names usually continued in use. Even new inhabitants usually adopted the old names, just as American colonists adopted many old Indian place names in the United States. Accordingly, Albanian linguists have found more than 300 names of ancient cities like Shkodra, rivers like the Drin and mountains like Tomor which were mentioned by ancient Greek and Roman geographers or historians and which are still in use in Albania. Scholars show how the rules of historical phonetics explain any changes of spelling over the centuries from Illyrian to Albanian, as Scupi to Shkup, Scodra to Shkodra, Lissus to Lezha, Durrachium to Durrës, Drinus to Drin, Mathis to Mat. Certainly the Albanian language is derived from the Illyrian (Cabej 1985, 42-62). Illyrian proper names continue in use among present-day Albanians. Then the names of other people like the Illyrian rulers Agron and Teuta were mentioned by Greek or Roman historians. The Albanian scholar Mahri Domi have identified 800 of these (Liria 15 October 1982; 1 November 1983). The numerous marine terms for sea plants and animals in the Albanian language show that these people lived along the coast on what would correspond with Illyrian territory (AT 1983, 1:44-45). Then there are other words in Albanian which Greek or Roman writers long ago explicitly identified as Illyrian in origin. Down through the centuries many once great peoples have been either destroyed or assimilated by others so as to disappear altogether. But the Illyrian people with their distinctive dress, music, customs and especially their language have persisted in their shrinking territory along the western shore of the Balkan Peninsula. With no record or tradition even hinting at their extermination or assimilation or migration, one can only assume their unbroken historical continuity. There seems to be no question but that the present-day Albanians are the historically uninterrupted descendants of the lllyrians who were known to have inhabited that same region in early Greek and Roman times. 6. The latest genetic (DNA) data prove the same scientific theory, that today's Albanians are direct heirs of the Illyrians, Illyro-Thracians, or this paleo-Balkan people. There was no written ethnic language in the ancient time. Albanian is a hearth language, a vernacular one. Still, their written language used to be their religious languages Latin and Greek, because Latin and Greek are NOT ethnic languages, but Sacred ones. The written language has always been an attribute of the religion because it has been created for liturgy. This is the simple reason, you don’t find and you will never find in the future, any Albanian inscription, or Thracian one, or Illyrian one, Epirotic one, or Macedonian one, you always will find them in “Greek” or “Latin” the languages of their religion. Illyrians may be one of the most enigmatic story ever told in Europe. They were giants, too huge to stay out of sight, yet we know so little about them! How can an empire of this nature exist for so many centuries, and we have nothing of their literature? Nationalism aside, I truly believe that Albanians have very close connection to Illyrians, or Dardans in particular. Croatians and Slovenes are Slavs by language because of the similarity/"simplicity" of Slavic language and it's strenght in numbers which lead it to dominate the area probably since the 8th century. There was mixture of languages troughout history from Latin, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Slavic, Albanian... In each willage in Croatia there was slight variation in dialect and etymology from all of the above languages. We the indigineous people of Dalmatia were simply outnumbered by immigrants and several time we went trough the process of loosing our real estate property, language and cultural identity. Medieval Montenegrian Historian Pop Dukljanin divided the Illyrian area into White Croatia and Red Croatia. Iliryan name and Croatian name was used as sinonym. P.S. regarding height. I have not watch other documetaries you have created, but this one on Illyrians seems pretty vague. You say a lot, and than you say nothing. Additionally, I do not understand why you have to be so cynical and passive aggressive in your comments. What nationities do we have in todays Ballkans? We have Greeks who were called Helens, we have south slavs (Croats, Slovenians, Bulgarians, and Serbs) who came to Ballkans in VII century and than we have the Albanians who are the direct descendants of Illyrians. If you do some digging you will find out that only through Geg - Albanian you can understand names such as Pirro, Aleksander, Aferdita, Bardhyl, etc. We Albanians are proud of our history, and there is nothing wrong with that. No matter how much the world has tried to erase us from the face of the earth, we have managed to survive to the XXI century. Empires have come and gone, but we're still here. We still speak Geg Dialect of Albanian language, which is the oldest language in Europe. So please, in the future work a little bit more on the content. Actually all of that has been debunked. Claims that Albanians are Illyrians come just from the albanian people( as you can see in the comments). Illyrians influenced the Albanian language, but they were different genetically and culturally. Most of the Illyrians disappeared after the coming of Croats and Serbs. Many were killed or expelled and some smaller percentage assimilated with croats and greeks. Since the albanians came a bit later and being just a tribal group they fell under some of their influence. It is very common on the Balkans that today's nations falsely claim someone else's history as theirs. Macedonia is doing the same by claiming parts of greek history

1) Very empiric video. It seems like they just read some basic articles found here and there. How can you not mention the illyrian revolt in the years 6-9 ad? It was considered from the romans as the biggest and most dangerous revolt ever happend outside italic peninsula! 2) It is not known if they evolved to a modern nation today? Well, Ptolemeus mentions the tribe of albanois and their city albanopolis in the 2nd century AD. Their name (alban) was a romanisation of the name of the tribe Parthini (you may see at the beggining of the video their location). Alba in latin means “white” and parthini can be explained with the albanian word today bardhe that means also white. And there are several examples like this (they translated also the name of dardani tribe in pirustae = pear; and darda = dardha in albanian also pear), but I dont want to make a long lecture here. 3) Even if you dont take in consideration the fact that illyrian words can be explained only through albanian language, it is the DNA that doesnt lie. Today more than 70 of the albanians belong to EV13, J2b and R1b (the same ones found on skeletons of illyrian period). There are many articles and studies made from prominent figures (based on their genetic findings) of the world who confirm that albanians come from the ancient peoples of western balkans (ie illyrians) and that the albanian language (together with the greek and armenian one) is the oldest branch of the indo-european family. Also the modern language of the albanian has a lot of words borrowed from the latin and this confirms that the people who speaks this language has been in contact for a long time with the romans. So the albanians evolved from the illyrians and their language, even though influenced from the latin is the only one that can claim to be a descendant of illyrian language.

@@balkan644-o6y Well, any shkije that tells you that E-v13 was not a haplogroup among illyrians is simply lying. The oldest E-v13 in the Balkan was found in Cetina culture (not east but west, in today Croatia) and it is before the proto-illyrians (lets call them like that) came to the Balkan. E-V13 as a y-Haplogroup originates from the so-called Neolithic settlers, who entered the Balkans from Anatolia approximatly 8500 years ago. These Neolithic settlers were the founders of the Minoan civilization, the first European civilization in history. They also were a major component in the ethnogenesis of later Myceneans, Helens, Thracians, Dacians and Illyrians. So while E-V13 wasn’t exclusively ‘Illyrian’ but rather Paleobalkanic in general, it WAS one of the main Illyrian y-DNA Haplogroups. Specifically, E-v13 was found in the illyrians and thracians. So, the population that came here in the bronze age (the ancestors of the illyrians) found this haplogroup in the paleobalkanic populations and merged with them. Of course, being here, before the indo-europeans populations, can not specifically be associated with the Illyrians, that is true, but nevertheless it was one of their haplogroups, at least at some of their branches (tribes), like in Dardania (today Kosovo). The Albanians, therefore come from those branches (tribes) of illyrians that had included this haplogroup in their population.

The sample you're referring to is not ev13 but 2 mutations upstream of ev13 (eL618) which is not ev13 and totally irrelevant. Zero proof any ev13 were illyrian. Not a single ev13 sample anywhere near modern Albanian lands until 300 ad. Just because a eL618 man died in croatia long before the illyrians doesn't mean ev13 is illyrian. That's like saying because 1 I2 ancient sample was found 3k bc in balkans that all shkije were there, but that's wrong bc they don't descend from him but a later i2 group. There's an abundance of proof j2b l283 were illyrians while there's an abundance of proof ev13 are definitely from the east balkans and most likey thracian dacian. Furthermore, these ev13 show deeper common ancestry with proto slavs. Don't believe sides believe data. Check y full. It's not a matter of opinion anymore like 2015.

@@balkan644-o6y I think you didn’t read my comment till the end. I’m trying to explain better: the majority of today albanians descend from an illyrian tribe that had j2b and ev13 in their gene pool. This tribe was the dardanians who many scholars claim were a mix of illyrians and thracians GENETICALLY, while CULTURALLY and LINGUISTICALLY belonged to illyrians (this is supported from the fact that most of the illyrian words and names are explained only through albanian language, although it is heavily influenced from the latin words; at the same time the thracian words and names cannot be explained through albanian language). Members of this tribe were pushed further to east from Dardania to today north Albania and mixed with local illyrian tribes creating the modern nation of albanians.

Hecataeus of Miletus (550-476 BCE) mentioned the Illyrian tribe of the Arboi, Ptolemy (100-170 CE) mentions them under the name Albanoi. Their central settlement was called Albanopolis and was located in central Albania. Stephanus of Byzantium who reproduced Hecataeus added an entry for another settlement named Arbon in Illyria whose inhabitants were called Arbonioi or Arbonites. Another Arbon was recorded by Polybius. John of Nikiû wrote in the 7th century CE about a people known as Arbanitai in the Greek translation of the manuscript. In the Middle Ages, the names Albanoi and Arbanitai/Albanitai referred to medieval Albanians as an ethnic group. The equivalent terms in Latin are Albanenses/Arbanenses, in Slavic Arbanasi and later in Turkish Arnaut. These names reflect the Albanian ethnic endonym Arbëreshë/Arbëneshë, which itself derives from Albanoi. Thus, there is an Illyrian-Albanian continuity and since there was no single record of emigration/immigration from Albanian lands, one must acknowledge the fact that the Albanians are the direct descendants of the Illyrians. Also, regarding the religion and mythology of ancient Illyrians, it is highly similar to the supersticious practices and oral legends and tales shared amongst Albanians, especially in the region of Malësia and Gheg speaking dialects. Well, Doric‐Greek went extinct 2000 years ago, meaning that those words, even if they are loanwords must have entered at least 2000 years ago. This proves that Albanians must have lived close to Dorians (or the Dorians themselves were part of their Illyrian origin). 2: The Albanian vocabulary consists of a high percentage of Latin (Vulgar) loanwords. Meaning that Albanians must have lived in, or close to a place where Latin (Vulgar) was spoken. 3: We do actually have some remnants of the Illyrian language. Messapic was an Illyrian dialect and it does show simulaties only with Albanian. 4: Albanians (or Arbanians) were first mentioned by Hecataeus of Miletus (550-476 BCE) under the name Abroi (Ἄβροι), Arboi, Abros (since 6th century BCE, in fragment 69 of Periodos ges, cited by Stephanus of Byzantium in 6th century CE). The name of the tribe is recorded in Ancient Greek as Abroi. But Ptolemy (egyptian astronomer, mathematician, and geographer) is the first authors who mentions them under the name Albanoi, in 150AD (2nd century CE), in his geography he cites the "Albanoi" as an Illyrian tribe living in Albanopolis, Macedonia (now central Albania). From a single tribe the name spread to include the rest of the country as Arbëri and, finally, Albania. The archaeological site of Zgërdhesh, thought to be the site of the ancient city of Albanopolis, city of the Illyrian Albanoi tribe. It's a huge site, with well preserved walls & towers, & the remains of stepped 'streets' cut from the rock. 5: Those few language elements which are known as Illyrian can be explained through the Albanian language, and no other. Linguists point out many technical similarities between Illyrian and Albanian words. Illyrian toponyms, ancient Illyrian place names for cities, rivers, and mountains, are preserved today in the Albanian language, and only in Albanian. The names of Balkan villages usually lasted only a few centuries, for villages were often destroyed altogether during wartime. Cities lasted longer, so their names were usually older. But rivers, lakes and mountains endured through the centuries, and their ancient names usually continued in use. Even new inhabitants usually adopted the old names, just as American colonists adopted many old Indian place names in the United States. Accordingly, Albanian linguists have found more than 300 names of ancient cities like Shkodra, rivers like the Drin and mountains like Tomor which were mentioned by ancient Greek and Roman geographers or historians and which are still in use in Albania. Scholars show how the rules of historical phonetics explain any changes of spelling over the centuries from Illyrian to Albanian, as Scupi to Shkup, Scodra to Shkodra, Lissus to Lezha, Durrachium to Durrës, Drinus to Drin, Mathis to Mat. Certainly the Albanian language is derived from the Illyrian (Cabej 1985, 42-62). Illyrian proper names continue in use among present-day Albanians. Then the names of other people like the Illyrian rulers Agron and Teuta were mentioned by Greek or Roman historians. But the Illyrian people with their distinctive dress, music, customs and especially their language have persisted in their shrinking territory along the western shore of the Balkan Peninsula. With no record or tradition even hinting at their extermination or assimilation or migration, one can only assume their unbroken historical continuity. There seems to be no question but that the present-day Albanians are the historically uninterrupted descendants of the lllyrians who were known to have inhabited that same region in early Greek and Roman times. 6. The latest genetic (DNA) data prove the same scientific theory, that today's Albanians are direct heirs of the Illyrians, Illyro-Thracians, or this paleo-Balkan people.
