The iPod was by far the most popular media player. When I was younger, it was seen as cool to have an iPod. Kids would compare them and see who had more storage and who had the better model. The Nano 2G and 3G were super popular. But the iPod Touch was the most popular by far. Everyone wanted or had an “itouch”. They were incredibly common among young people and were definitely a big part of the App Store growing. During elementary and junior high about 70% of kids in my school had an iPod Touch or used to have one and had a smartphone to replace it. They were awesome devices that introduced so many to the Apple ecosystem.

Tyler Beeson I agree. I got an IPod shuffle for Christmas and I sold it to put money towards the second generation of IPod Touch. I was one of the first kids in my class to have one. I was in 6th grade at the time. That’s how I got into the ecosystem and I’m not going anywhere

iPod to this day is still Apple's greatest achievement. There's alternatives to Macintosh, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, but among MP3 players nothing begins to compare with the perfect usability and design of the iPod, which helped launch Apple to the superstardom that made it America's first publicly-traded trillion-dollar company. I still use iPod for listening to music on the go. Additionally, as referenced in the video, iPod launched in the wake of 9/11, the Anthrax murders and the invasion of Afghanistan, the beginning of the endless "War on Terror", at a time when America's mood was dark and on-edge. iPod was an achievement that reminded everybody to keep living their everyday lives, and of what American technology can do.

My first digital music players (MP3) were Creative units with 512KB-2GB capacities. I got my old "person of interest" a 15GB Series 3 iPod, since the iPod Minis had sketchy reputations. I stumbled along with 4-16GB digital music players from Sansa and Philips for a while. Eventually I found a 20GB iPod (Series 4) on eBay, and I had a reason to download iTunes. (I had been using MusicMatch on the desktop PC and Lenovo ThinkPad SL410.

I remember getting my first iPod in 2003. I got one because I saw it on 50cents P.I.M.P music video and thought it looked awesome ^_^ The 2003 iPod is still by far the sexiest and best iPod ever made IMO with the redish lighting on the buttons and the touch wheel. Sadly I lost it a couple years later by which time they'd updated the model. Also I had no idea Fostex made Apples earbuds. Their T50RPs are really good, specially when modded.

Had it for a long time, even upgraded the original 4GB microdrive with a 64GB compact flash card, renewed battery and hell, BEST MP3 PLAYER I EVER OWNED (and is still in working condition, but inside my glass vitrine next to other iPods i collected 2nd hand/broken for the style)

This was the item that got windows users to look at Apple Products. As they now had iTunes for windows on there desktop...That was the marketing genius.... Then the iPod Audio\Video appeared... You could now watch movies in high resolution. As the dock allowed you to port that video into a TV. Straight out of the iPod. No need for a bulky VCR...And if you notice. The VCR\DVD players are long gone...

I'm making this comment in late 2021... Once again it's amazing to know that younger people who look at the Apple brand today may not even know of an, "iPod" or if they do they dismiss it. Today it's all iPhone and glaring at the screen for TikTok.... I'm never going to get angry at new ways of communicating with people, but I'm going to be disappointed in people who barely look up from their phones when you're trying to show them the history of the technology they literally rely on and they only shrug and go straight back to an App.

My very 1st iPod was the 4th gen non colored 20gb i got wayback 2005.... then shifted to iPod Photo U2 edition 4th gen that was already a colored screen and love the black red color... i skipped the iPod video 5th gen and got the iPod classic 80gb 6th.. when the very 1st iPhone 2G came out in 2007 i sold my very last iPod classic..... after long years having no iPod anymore, i bought again an iPod classic 160gb in 2019 coz i want to have a gadget that is only dedicated for playing music... since most people today use also their mobile for music....
