History of the Sd.Kfz.234-before the build

I like to do research on vehicles from the kits that I build. If I have the time and if the history is interesting enough I put the history in my videos. The kit I’m building is the Italeri 1/35 scale Sd.Kfz.234/1. The history plus build would have made a 30+ minute video, so this is just the history of the Sd.Kfz.234 series. Great job! It's pretty incredible how many different vehicles and variants that the Germans built during that period.. really just looking at 1933-1945 and look what they came up with.

I know right? When you buy a kit you are like “that’s cool I guess” but when you research it before you build, you just realize how deep the rabbit hole goes and how many variants there are. Gives you a new respect for the vehicle when you build it.

​@@mjscalemodeling3365 true what you saying but many German AFV were relatively easy and cost effective to convert for different purposes with exception of the The first and possibly best known version was the Sd.Kfz. 234/2 that it had a turret armed with a 5 cm L/60 gun. ..

Nice video. I managed to build all 4 versions of these vehicles in 1/35. I had to scratchbuild the mount for the Pak 40 and adapt the sides of the fighting compartment as they were all based on the Italeri kit and that version wasn't available then. I have always liked the german 8 wheelers.

COOL! -Im just about to begin a well mod'd/shot up but repairable 1/35th 'PremiumEdition' Dragon Sd.Kfz 234/4 that when finished will be sitting on an Sd.Kfz 9 FAMO trailer (built with TMD's excellent resin 6 ton Bilstein crane conversion made for TAM FAMO & 'Panzer Concepts 'Late FAMO' front fender kit, FAMO & its trailer sitting on PanzerArts 12 wheel resin set for same) -The 234 itself sitting on the FAMO's Sd.Ah116 23 ton trailer, Ive recently purchased/found some great aftermarket pieces to go with the 234: -"E.T Model" makes a really cool 3D printed suspension set (30$) that allows wheel steering (Much like the Dragon Prem edition 234 kits do too) but the printed ET set also allows for ^vertical 8 wheel station movement (If a wheel station(s) are shown crossing a log/obstacle/un-even ground terrain feature in a vignette/diorama) -Also ordered an ET Model mixed tread pattern 8 wheel set for 35$, but itll take too long to get here via the s-l-o-w boat from China, so I went with "Hussar Models" 234 mixed wheel set (29$ for 5 wheels/tires) as the Hussar examples will get here MUCH more rapidly (Ive used Hussars excellent resin wheels/tires on 5 other Dragon 234 builds of all the variants. "Why 5?"....-For 12+ years been working away on a HUGE June '44 Normandy PanzerWerkStattCo mega dio;) - Also ordered a "Heavy-Hobby" '234 Engine Compartment w/a Tatra 103 engine' set (30$)-Highly recommended... -Such replaces the 234's entire rear side panels & engine deck with PE sheets, the 2 fuel tanks & motor are printed examples, a GORGEOUS 3D printed motor it is too! (Already bought one a few months back only to find the new HH set with PE panels/whole engine bay-Ill prob use the HH duplicate to replace a previously built 234/1's bearing the 'CMK Tatra103 motor'-HevHob offers a MUCH better motor IMO) -Also purchased Aber 234 PE compartment fender doors & fender PE sets too... THANKS for the vid on the subject/build!

The rarest version was a Sd Kfz 234/2 hull , with a turret from the Pz II Ausf L ( its shown in the vid for a few seconds ) .

I was wondering what that one was! It was clearly a 234 with what almost looked like an enclosed 234/1 turret with clearly different armament.
