THIS RARE PUMA IS PURE EVIL - Sd.Kfz.234/1 in War Thunder

The 20mm Puma in War Thunder is an absolute plague. Well, at least it used to be. The Sd.Kfz.234/1 was added at the same time as the infamous Object 279 so it was overlooked at the time. If you were a new player when it was added... you had some serious problems!
The Sd.Kfz.234/1 is a German Light Tank that has the 140/1 turret that houses a 20mm KwK and a rare to see MG42 machine gun. It's basically an anti-air gun that can deal with anything around its low Battle Rating of 2.0!
It's also by far the fastest and most mobile tank at Rank 1 making it easily the best flank vehicle pound for pound at its battle rating.
I genuinely think this is one of the most OP Tanks in War Thunder.

I love scout vehicles, especially on forested maps where the camo patterns are most effective and just park in the woods and scout everything heading toward a cap. Once my team figures it out, they just wait and murder the scouted vehicles I feed 'em. It's as much fun as actually getting kills.

I'd routinely take it to BR3-4 it was great. Entire german SPAA got turned into crap, can't side pen most tanks now with 48mm 20mm. Especially russian stuff.

there is a reason why low tier aa like 20mm or even 50cal is so popular, 45mm pen auto cannon at 2.3 is absolutely insane, considering most canon at this br have similar pen and have 5 to 6 sec reload

They were even more popular back then when they had even more penetration + projectiles actively exploited 0mm own thickness to punch through any known holes in armor. Add most tanks having exposed turret ring that used to pass the ammo and not just eat it - and things got messy. Wirblewind wasn't THE AA/tank hunter. It was a final boss of all tank hunters.

Hey Odd! I take it you noticed the nice buff they gave it about six months ago? Turret rotation speed was this thing's only issue, and it's gone now! It was about 12 degrees per second, now it's 30 or so with ace crew, absolute madness.

I'm not sure that it doesn't make a difference, if German 20mm hadn't been nerfed from 64mm penetration @10m to about 40, then sure, but with the nerf? not sure. Still love the way it drives though, a good challenge to drive fast and not overcook the steering, with it being eight-wheel at all times, it can be pretty difficult.

Usually happens during ammo racks. they added a knockback to the tank if it gets ammoracks and survives but its a little overdramatic

It's not the top speed, it's the unbelievable acceleration that makes this thing so fun and OP. Fun fact: the M8 LAC has the same top speeed but it takes an eternity to get there and most of the times you can't even get there anyway. The M8 LAC is my fav vehicle in the game and this Puma is my dream vehicle, I'm gonna get it one day.

Recently played 4.0. Wanted to play Flakbus. Gets one-shot by KV-1 who absorbs my shell to the flats of his turret. Be angry. Take out Puma. Get 9 exceptionally disrespectful kills on KV-1s and T34 (There are no other vehicles) Team has been dead for 5 minutes. Die. 2x kills with He-113 to calm down. Almost fun.

It used to be much better when it had historic HVAP pen before Gaijude nerfed German SPAA to the ground. Now they have lowest pen SPAA, unhistorically. I used to love taking the 234/1 up to Br3-4 and it was amazing neck penning t34s lol.

this tumor puma was 1.3 at the beginning but did lack the high pen AP rounds. those were added later. it was still very potend. now with the relative new turret and gun speed increase its very evil.

@07:32 Not invisible, just silent, It might be just me, but every time I play against Puma's close up, they're like fully electric drive, totally silent. Deceptively "tanky" as well, I used to make the mistake of shooting them in the hull between the wheels, with Russian 76mm APHE, or US 75mm APHE thinking hitting the driveline would trigger the fuse and some decent post pen would happen. I'd just get a yellow wheel or driveshaft as a result.

They modernized this back in the1970's-80's. I think it was called the Lynx. And was actually amphibious. Because of two propellers. I couldn't find out to much information on it with a quick search. And I never really looked into it deeply...

Pretty much ruined with the nerfed unrealistic pen and the raise in BR. The extra armor won't help because you are a lot slower and heavier. The quick turret won't safe you as none of your rounds will pen anything at 3.0 BR or at range.

Yeah I remember when I got this from the event, it was indeed 1.7 and an absolute terror to the enemy team. The ONLY thing that could beat this was the B1(TER), t-50 and SU-122... I have easily racked up over 5k kills with this, as an AA works magic as well. Best minipuma hands down

I really didn't understand why they moved the cool new small tank for germany. It was probably due to seal clubbing because it was very incredibly good in the hands of a sealclubber and yet this 234/1 is still in the game and very very good. They also moved the PzII up in tier and the HE 112 best lowtier plane in existence. When the spz came out I played it in a full auto firerate squad. Complete with the He112 and the likes. It was incredible. Top of the game for 15 games straight. And I just goofed around not looking left and right just moving. Incredibly good. I just got an Idea. What if there was a mechanic that makes it harder to go seal clubbing? Here is my take: If you are using a tank deemed a seal clubber like the 234/1 it goes up in BR if you are beyond a certain Account Level. Lets say like 38. If you go past level 38 your 234/1 goes up by .3 BR. If you are lvl 100 its .7 up. Thats it. Simply put: trying to make your tank harder to play amongst the bit chunkier tanks but the lower ranked players still can use these tanks to learn the ropes and not get f'd by tanks they do not yet know where to shoot and how to kill. They are still fighting the same lowies. If you look at the other nations they also have some seal clubbing tanks. Many of them are so good I see those 1.0-1.7 tanks in 4.0-5.7 Battles. Like the BT-7. Incredible tank. I used to go seal clubbing in this tank just to prove a point. Been top of the board for again 8 matches straight. Killing left and right only to be revenge bombed. The BT can even kill Tigers if played correctly. Or the Sabot for swedish lowtier tanks. 100+ penetration on a Tier 1 tank? Really? What for? I used to play sweden low tier a bit and it was hilarious. French and english heavy tanks? Pfft whats so heavy about them? They are just slow fodder for the swedish tanks. Really fun to play. Yet: no one gives. No BR changes. Anyway. The tanks get changed in BR and still are viable. Yet sadly not high enough to be put into Tier 2 to get scouting which is the ONE thing I expected from the BR Change for the german seal clubbers. And just now I realized youtube showed me an old video. lol.
