At about 6:24, it is stated that ‘Wends’ was the German name given to Sorbs. It is my understanding that the Wends were a different community. I have heard Wends described as Slavic pirates who fought against Vikings and later Danes in the Baltic region. So Wends are Slavs and Sorbs might be Slavs, therefore Wends and Sorbs are the same and indistinguishable. I don’t think this is right. And besides, in German, Sorbs are called ‘Sorben’ in books I have read. ???
@jana_t3 ай бұрын
The word "Wends" was used in olden times to describe all Slavic people. Today, in German we are called "Sorben" (Sorbs) or "Wenden" (Wends). Some Lower Sorbs prefer the term "Wenden" in German. Official documents mention both terms: "Sorben/Wenden".

If Charlemagne had defeated the Sorbs (Not the Lusatian Serbs, because we are one constructive tribe of one great state), he would not have set a border, but would have conquered the whole of Sorbian. The Frankish Annals (if I remember) mention Charlemagne's order that "if the Czechs attack, raise a quarter of the army, and if the Serbs attack, raise the whole army," which tells us that the Sorabs were not a tiny tribe with borders on the Elbe and Saxony, but probably what Milos S. Milojevic and some others mention, A constructive state consisting of several tribes that fought and reconciled with each other and when the enemy outside the state attacks everyone meets as happened before the Battle of Kosovo.

Sorbs, like all Slavic nations today are the remnants of one unified state called Lechia. The vast majority of Germany is a land that once had a different name. Most German cities had name changes from Slavic to German. Berlin was Berlo, Hamburg was Bukowiec and Bremen was Brzemie just to name a few. Sorbs resisted germanisation, most other principalities that now make up the German and the Austrian state, beetween the year 300 and 850 did not resist. With enough digging there are a lot of really old documents out there that talk about this. Unfortunately there are people and countries that don’t like this history much.

The Slavs didn't exist in Germany since the beginning of the Middle Ages...Germanic peoples occupied what is now German land since Roman times, along with Celts who they intermixed with (leading to extinction of continental Celt language) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germanic_peoples#Ethnonym The Slavs were always opportunists and bandits that took advantage of German lands when all their warriors were conquering the rest of Europe. cease this incessant "we-wuzzing" and seek mental help.
@revanofkorriban1505 Жыл бұрын
That's a spurious claim, considering the Slavs never conquered even a majority of Germany. Care to back it up?
@Kaefer1973 Жыл бұрын
@@revanofkorriban1505 To make it short, yes he is completely wrong. To make it longer, Bremen is certainly an incorrect example as slavs never settled so far to the north-west, slavic names for towns and citties doesn't always means they had ever been slavic. Hamburg could possibly be right since slavs certianly did settle in the south east and central south parts of Jutland, but it seems a little too far to the west of that. Overall it may be true that most towns of modern north-east and central-east Germany had slavic predecessors (true for Lübeck for example) or were just renamed after the population changed. But it's certainly not true for Germany as a whole. His dating is wrong as well. 300 AD there was no "Germanisation" (especially towards the east), more of the opposite. The migration period started in the later part of that century, many germanic tribes migrated westwards and slavic people migrated to the now mostly forsaken parts of modern eastern Germany. I think "Germanisation" wasn't a thing under the Franks either, though they were a Germanic tribe expanding borders from modern Western Germany, Belgium and probably parts of France and the Netherlands in all directions. Only some time after the Frankish Empire split up into 3 independent Kingdoms, the Western Kingdom, at that time no longer under the rule of Franks but Saxons, started it's violent and organised expansion into into the slavic territories. And that was after 850 AD. The only thing that could possibly be seen as "Germanisation" of Slavic areas in the timeframe he gave was the esablishment of mixed Slavic/Germanic (to be exact nordic people of the Vendel era) trading posts at the Baltic coasts of modern east Germany and west Poland. These were settlements with a mixed culture that certainly had more germanic influneces than the surrounding areas, but usually the influence of nordic tribes would not be seen as Germanification in relation to modern Germany.

Sorbs show genetic isolation from Germans and 65% of R1a, which is widely considered the slavic Y-DNA haplogroup along with I2a1b.
@@drugaja7293 how many Serbs migrated to the Russian Empire 350 years ago? Slavyanoserbsk.... Within a couple generations they were all assimilated. The Sorbs in Germany didn't all assimilate because of the difference between Germanic and Slavic cultures and language. It is not fair to say that Germans are Serbs my brother. Maybe 35-40% of East Germans have Sorbian and other Slavic ancestors but they were assimilated a long, long time ago. Genetic studies done 5-10 years ago today show to have come up with wrong conclusions and have been misunderstood. Genetic study as a way of determining ethnicity is not ironclad and far from it. What is sure is that you can listen to the language one person speaks, observe their culture and traditions and look at their physical Anthropology... I personally think anthropology is a much better way to identify somebody and which ethnic group or race they belong to then looking at their genetics 15 generations back... I hope you understand me.

@@erazor8604 I looked into the Sorbitan language and realised one of the dialects uses Đe or Dje, as in example Đe je nož. To speak in that way is considered an older form of Serbia and I also realised that in Ukraine where Serbs settled 300 or so years ago the Russians or Ukrainians in and around those regions(many Serb families settled in Ukraine then but quickly assimilated and became Russian but the Sorbs survived in Germany because we are different and it was hard to assimilate a Slavic person to Germanic culture, compared to a Slavic person to another Slavic nation) also say Đe je nož... Where is the knife in translation. Also I find it interesting that when I read Sorbian, it is easier to understand then polish or Russian. One more thing, amongst Balkan Serbs there is a surname "BALJAK" and among you guys there is "BALLAK" and I am certain the two names are related. It's a shame that so many Serbs were assimilated in Germany and had their surnames changed. Also it's embarrassing that the Serbian government doesn't do more on helping preserve Sorbian culture, language, tradition and on and on. At least we could make some kind of embassy also to introduce our young people to each other. If it wasn't for the internet much less people would know about native Sorbs or Germany. Try toponymes in Czech republic with "Serb", dozens of them, even in Poland, although in Poland are Sorb, in Czech Serb. Old Slavic names are Serbs and Rasians, only few Slavic people stood with their old names. And WHY Charles the Great would negotiate with one small tribe?? Make peace, accuse them, making efforts etc.?!?! Why?! The strongest country in Europe of that time! Answer is because most of central European "Slavs" had their old name, it is the Serbs. The history of the Lusatian Serbs is much greater before or after Vincent's culture. King Samo was the king of the Luzic Serbs who had much larger territory. When the Roman Empire began to weaken, the king only sent his son Vsevolod to liberate the Balkans (because the Serbs demanded that the Luzic Serbs liberate them) . There he liberated the Balkans, establishing his own empire, extending from Slovenia to Constantinople (because there was a majority Serb population there) ps: another unrelated curiosity is that King Arthur is a Serb (I saw it in the Galilee)

@@guineapig55555 Hello nazi grandson, Slavs are first white people/tribe in europe. Germanic tribes came much later, did few genocides on autohtonic Slav tribes and made their state, even now in modern Germany there is about 70k of autohtonic Serbs who kept part of their customs.

Dokaz za 4500 godine starosti njihovog boravljena u tom predelu su skeleti, pronadjeni u luzickoj Srbiji sa istom granom R1a koja je i dan danas predominantna medju luzickim Srbima. The Sorbs that immigrated to Texas in 1854 are alternatively known as the Wends or Wendish.

Wend or wendish is collective Germanic name for all western Slavic tribes , so it's good they name them like that
@gorski5485 жыл бұрын
Not true. Sorry but the video is widely incorrect. The Sorbs actually MIGRATED from the Hum [Balkans]. Hum is a prehistoric name for the Balkans [Hum/Hlm/Helm]. The Balkns is a ancient homeland from where the Slavs expanded. The Serbs, Bulgarians, Croats, Montenegrins, MAcedonians, Bosnians and Slovenians all came to be from the Vinca civilization and their continuations like Lepenski vir - Kostolac - Vucedol - Vinkovci - Sopot cultures. The Serbs took their name in honor of the Goddess SERBONA [Srbona]. To this day Serb society is matricentric, just like the Vincan one, which means that the woman is in the center of the home. All of these people I mentioned are indigenous/autochtonous populations of the Balkans. They expanded from Balkans to north to river Elba, and east to city of Novogorod [hence the name itself - NOVI GRAD - NEW CITY - NOVOGOROD]. I can go on and on and on. A lot of the archives proving this are still kept in Vatican. The antiquity homeland of the Serbs, Croats was called "LIRIJA - LYRIA" which could be transliterated to "The land of the ones who talk/sing". Still true to this day.

@@Roca005 there are different tribes of slavs. our homeland originates in europe tho. not in the east. although, the aryan race is actually just an extension of our people's, the similarities with those throughout asian continent can still be traced to us today, by the ancient cultures/myths/languages/history/religions/even some shared genetics.
