Yes you are right! South India contributed many things to the culture of Uttarakhand. In some of our "jagars"( religious songs in praise of gods, demigods,dieties and heroes)..there is a mention of "dakshin Pradesh", which is southern India. Many castes are of south indian origin like 'lingwal' ( lingayats of Karnataka) and 'dimri'( namboodris of Kerala).the instrument named "hudka" is same as the instrument in Kerala called "edakya".And many more things.

We ruled these areas on 18th CE for years as Greater Nepal(Uttrakhand,some parts of HP, Sikkim,Darjeeling). 1. Nepal, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir Rajput belong to the Khas tribes. They neither belonged to the Suryavanshi nor Chandravanshi bloodline lineages except the Arya Kshatriyas. 2. The Khas tribes were converted into Khas Rajput as Hindu Kshatriya by Vaidik Brahmans. 3. Arya Kshatriyas are pure Suryavanshi and Chandravanshi clans according to the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. 4. The Khas Rajput do not belong to the bloodline lineages of Suryavanshi and Chandravanshi because they were not Arya Kshatriyas.

According to Atkinson's report 90% brahman and rajputs of uttrakhand were khasa peoples..who started claiming plain ancestry for lifting there status I don't know about other state but yes regarding uttrakhand its true
