I've been working at a Volvo dealership here in Louisiana for almost a year now. I absolutely love the S60 & the S90 & the XC90 is my all time favorite luxury suv. I'm currently in the transition process for becoming a Volvo Technician/Mechanic Helper so I can learn & work my way up to a Master Tech. I've been a pipe welder and pipefitter for the past 15 years and now I'm thinking of a career change. I'll get the opportunity of learning how to work on the Hybrids and the Fully ELECTRIC vehicles Volvo makes. Theyve told me by year 2030 Volvo plans to have their entire vehicle lineup going ALL 100% ELECTRIC. This will be a great asset as more EV's will be on the road and not too many mechanics look forward or even desire to work on EV's but I'm welcoming the idea. Peace Blessings and Salute from Louisiana USA

Nesmyslně přijatá elektromobilita jak rychle přišla, ještě rychleji shoří. Už teď mě irituje zaparkovaný elektromobil u supermarketu a parkuji od něho pěkně daleko, pro případ, že začne hořet aby neohrozilo i moje benzínové auto. EV by měla mít své vyhrazené parkoviště s připravenými hasícími kontejnery. Zapomíná se a ignoruje jejich potenciální nebezpečnost když parkují. A když jedou, tak se zbytečně převážejí metráky baterii. To jste teda zasekli sekeru do zad ekologii. Komu není dáno, tak v apatice nekoupí.!!!👎😭

I'm very impressed with how it was Volvo's engineer that invented the 3 point seatbelt and left the patent open for use for free by other manufacturers. With all the other safety features available in cars nowadays the 3 point seatbelt still stands out as the primary safety feature that prevents many motorists being killed or seriously injured in a road accident.

Hello from Finland. My first 4 cars were Saabs because I hadn’t enough money to buy Volvo. 🙃 My first one was Saab Two Stroke -66 ❤. Then I have had only Volvos: 244, 240, 240 GLA(utomatic), 760GLA -88, 960 ll -97 which I kept for 16 years, and now I have S80 ll. The next Volvos, I hope, are S90 and Polestar. My son also has Volvo, of course.

230.000 km '96 850 as a daily driver (bought new by my granddad, got it at 180k) : These cars a just fantastic. Practical, sturdy, easy to maintain and just all in all perfect craftsmanship. But if you compare the eraly 90s cars to the 2000s after the Ford take over like the V70 they did drop in quality. And if you look at the Mördern cars, the idea of having a car that lasts for ever did go away with the availability of software dependant solutions.

I have driven a few trucks and cars and I have to say Volvo is the best. Perfect comfort and easy to reach the things we need to drive safely and to have comfort at the same time. The gear shifter isn't that long way from the armrest so it is easy to just relax even with the arm on the gear shifter. and on trucks, the bed is so good and they always try to make more space for the driver so we get even better rest and are fully awake when we are driving long hours every day

NOT Volvo AB ( that is trucks and everything else ) It is not a good thing sadly . Best thing shuld be if Volvo cars could get away from chinese ownership .

Tend to agree - I have driven and maintained a 2002 V40 for 10 years - it’s now done 230k miles - aside from mechanical upkeep the rust is killing it slowly but it’s had a good innings - Renault 1.9d engine. I recently bought a 2014 V70 as a replacement with 181k miles with Volvo engine - it has been a nightmare with blocked EGR, blocked DPF, leaking valves, leaking injectors etc and generally impossible to access components without removing the engine itself or being a contortionist - to add to this there is already significant corrosion starting to appear on the chassis and under the wheel arches 😢

It's unfortunate that Volvo is now owned by the Chinese automotive company Geely. Volvo could have retained its standing as a Swedish Automobile Company in they had only done one simple thing. It shows like crazy in Sweden right? They should have offered AWD on some, it not all of their models. It worked for Subaru and I guarantee it would have worked here in North America as well.

At the same time in The USA, Airbags were invented and patented in the 1930's, but since the patent made it extreamly expensive, Airbags did not become common till 1980's as the 50 years patent was released and got free to use. I believe Packard made that patent and hold it.

I had previously 4 Volvo: 740D SW, 850 T5 summum, V70d5 summum and S80d5 executive. The best one was the T5. I would like to warn people about the reliability of these cars: after 250 000 km the engine, gearbox and shock absorbers are still fine (even at 400 000 km) but EVERYTHING ELSE has to be changed: air condition condenser, fuel pump, odometer, gps dvd drive, radio, electric seats, etc... It's a real shame ! When the roof is blocked opened, you have to remove the right front wheel and take out the alarm box which is dead after 8-10 years !!! crazy ! The more you have options (that you loved when you got the car), the more you have breakdowns ! Further more you have to replace all the engine silent blocks every 120 000 km (it is very expensive if done by a Volvo dealer). Now, I have a second hand Mercedes E350cdi W212 and have only the rotating knob of the GPS to replace at 350 000 km, nothing else. I loved the seats of the Volvo and their stereo hifi but I hated their service price !

Currently I own •Volvo 244GL 1982 •Volvo 245GL 1988 •Volvo PV544 1955 •Volvo 121 (Amazon) 1961 I've owned alot of Volvo cars through out my years, pure swedish metal that just keeps going if you take care of it. My first volvo, 244 from '77 I did oil change three times during 7 years of owning it, I had rough time with money. But ran like a clock. Had to change usual stuff, brakes and such.. other then that? I believe I had to replace the generator. Rest are basically the same, only I change oil twice a year. Can't say the same about Saab, some love them but can't see why? Driven 4 diffrent Saabs and enjoyment ain't there? And how often they break or rust. No wonder they went bankroupt

Well I mean if Volvo is selfish and keep the patent of the seatbelt, then other manufacturers may have to consider alternative or rebuild a new system around it. By Volvo allowing easy access to copy it, makes every car brand easily to just adopt. R&D is expensive.

Volvo used to be a great company, I’ve owned several models. However when Ford purchased the company it went down hill fast. I bought a V70, and almost immediately wished I hadn’t traded in the 945. The V70 was a Sierra clone and matched ford’s cheap approach to manufacture. After 25 years of Volvo ownership I purchased a German car and have never entered a Volvo dealership since 2003. Even Mercedes these days does not have the build quality of years ago when even never to be seen parts of the car were highly engineered. The accountants of BMW, Mercedes, Audi and probably Volvo have replaced the engineers.

Safety this, safety that, yada, yada... would you please talk about the concept of durability and easy maintenance and repair? In the early days of the brand Volvo engineers, knowing they couldn't rely on a large network of dealerships and specialized brand repair shops, designed their cars in a way that their customers would be able to do almost any maintenance and repair in their own garage at home. Also, they massively over-engineered those cars so they wouldn't easily break in the first place. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why Volvos are perceived as a near indestructible asset that can be passed down in a family for at least 3 generations.

A vintage volvo wagon survived a forest fire! It was a 40s/50s one. The headlights melted along with the interior and windows, door frame melted, everything was charred, but the engine survived and was running again after replacing burnt parts around it. So the head gasket was apparently fine! Paradise ca Forest fire. kzbin.info/www/bejne/epXLiWqOrNZgq7c

1) Unique Valve for shortest Braking-Distance and supirior stability while braking. (Important for fast Passenger Cars) 1.1) My Invention: I have a (complete design of) low-cost Valve that will replace the 2 on-off solenoid valves (for each wheel, in the ABS) 1.2) Will create Brakage: 98% of ideal decelaration on dry-asphalt with paddels (wet-asphalt): 2) Thus create the best ABS in the world, Reduce ABS size (more reliable than solenoid valve). 3) Note: Today ABS use two On-Off Solenoid-Valves because Proportional-Solenoid is not good: Low-Reliability, and at mid position: the flow will be too high: thus, compell bigger-pump. 4) Dear OEM : Please Reply...

@@BusinessHook ...because Volvo isn't an independend company anymore and it seems that everything that has a great name will be eaten by chinese enterprises or investment groups. BYD (Build Your Dreams) owns stakes on Mercedes-Benz. The result is that BYD electro vehicles are offered in Mercedes-Benz showrooms. Even in my town. And my own car? It's a Citroën C1 which is in facht a Toyota Aygo that was built in Czech Republic. Funny, isn't it?

My opinion is cars and trucks might be ok but I run a 2020 110h front end loader and it is a joke, had the def system replaced 7 times so far, hydraulic is weak compared to the old cat 950 I ran, rougher ride that the cat , will not shove as much as cat and spins tires way to easily ( whether I run it or someone else, it's the loader not the operator )

Great cars. It's a shame Volvo is no longer Swedish owned, even if much of development still happens there. I also don't think is was wise of Volvo to go into the luxury car segment. Volvo will never, ever, have the same appeal as Mercedes, BMW, and the American luxury brands. Sensible people know that Volvo is one of the best cars , if not the best car on the market, but people who buy brand new luxury cars are generally not sensible people. Instead, Volvo has lost market shares with many of the sensible people who used to drive Volvos, but can no longer afford to. Volvo used to be a car that would go forever, was easy to maintain, comfortable to drive, and one that could take a beating. They were also so damn practical. This is what they traded away to get into the luxury segment. Ruggedness and practicality does not go well together with luxury. Those things are antithetical. You don't haul building material in a Mercedes, but damn it if you couldn't fit all that stuff you need in the Volvo! And why doesn't Volvo make any utility veichles? At all? My god, if they made a van and a pickup truck (same chassi, like a VW transporter) they would sell so many of them. Why didnt they make a box car like the VW caddy?

You got the basic ideas right, but there are a lot of wrong statements and errors. Like the PV444 being an "instant hit" in the US - Volvo didn't enter the US before 1955, as you say yourself. And the issue was that Volvos were too reliable compared to US made vehicles, creating few repeat sales. Frustrated NYC dealers pummeled a PV444 with baseball bats and axes. When they were done, someone tried to start it - and it did. The following media reports were Volvo's best advertisement ever. It is a very special company though.

I like the comment that they keep their profit margin low so that more people can experience their cars. Well their parts are not inexpensive and their Dealers certainly do not follow that agenda. In 1997 I bought a brand new 850 which came with a free 4 year Maintenance plan. Every time I would bring my car into the same Dealer that sold it to me Brand New they would try to charge me $105.00 for an oil change. when questioned to the female service advisor she cheerfully replied "well we also lubricate the power antenna" I know that when she entered in my name and VIN# I am sure that her computer would have told her that my car had the Volvo reimbursed Maintenance Plan but they would always try to charge me. At that time you could go to any quick lube place and they would do it for between $29-$39

All research and development still takes place in Gothenburg. The vast majority of Volvo vehicles are assembled in Sweden, mainly at the Torslanda and Skövde facilities. Volvo cars for the Asian market are assembled across four facilities in China. Volvo Cars in Ridgeville, South Carolina, all American market Volvo S60 sedans and XC90 SUVs are being made. So you are missinformed...
