Fun fact -- Rocket Chemical never applied for a patent on WD-40. A patent filing would have required them to reveal the formula which they didn't want to do. So they filed a trademark registration on the name and carefully protected the formula as a trade secret to this day.

Yes , Norman Larson wasn't one of those individuals who gave up After 40 attempts , He finally got it right , Same thing goes with the invention of the light bulb , Which took a heck of alot more attempts to get it right , It definitely goes to show you that perseverance pays off and now , Look what happened , It would have been great If Norman Larson could have lived long enough to see how his invention changed the world , A great product that has almost unlimited uses Fantastic job Norman Larson Rest in peace

My father in law was a patent attorney in San Diego who filed the trademark application for WD40 . Carl also worked at General Dynamics in Sam Diego with Larsen the chemist

My father worked on the British Blue Streak rocket project and brought a can of , what was later to be WD 40 , home and we used it for all the uses you mentioned using a small paint brush .😅

In our shop in California, we used to coat one of our products with WD40 prior to shipping. We had been doing this for years. An inspector from one of the local agencies came in our shop to inspect and he saw our cans of WD40 on the shelf and he questioned their use. We told him our process and he told me point blank to remove the cans within 2 weeks or he would fine us and possibly shut us down. I immediately called WD40 offices in San Diego and they said that it has been a problem in California and they were trying to get a fix for the situation. It seems the average homeowner can have and use it, but not at our business. This was about 15 years ago, and we escaped California 13 years ago, so I don’t know if things were fixed.

Thanks for this post. This is what happens when the MBA's, and the Bean Counter's take over. Then you end up with the Gestapo coming around, and telling you how to run your business. This problem is like squeezing a tube of toothpaste. Except that they left the cap off, and you cannot put it back in the tube. I think it was George Carlin who coined the phrase that these Bureaucrats were Oxygen thieves.

An uncle of mine swore that DW 40 helped with 1 of his arthritic knees. He claimed that spraying it on and rubbing it in helped with the pain....

That 1950s packaging label though... "Lubricates passage ways", "Makes screwing a pleasure", and of course "Gives better penetration". OK, I'll go away now.

In my opinion the WD40 is the Coca Cola or the duck tape of lubricants. Everyone uses it. Brilliant!

Better products about nowadays. I've stopped using it about 5yrs. Locks seize after it dries. I use AC90 now, far better product, lasts longer and lubricate's better.

There were much better lubricants on the market, namely from STP, ELF or BARDAHL and many others, and nowadays we only find 🤬🤬🤬 WD-40 everywhere, which is not bad but very inadequate for many purposes!
