I love the history behind these Mausers, hearing about everyone backstabbing each other is kind of hilarious. Meanwhile these are some slick little carbines.

Love when the history has some "drama" in it ! Be it due to someone wanting their "palm greased", or a bureaucrat covering their butt, after the fact. Makes primary sources even suspect.

I bought a can of Ballistol shortly after you first announced their sponsorship. I don't much care for the smell, but Ballistol is useful stuff. I used it to revive a couple of reloading presses that had been 'lubricated' with WD40. long since seized up on the stuff in fact. The Ballistol helped clean out the junk. Gunked up water displacer, powder fouling, and dust alike. It's largely displaced my use of rem-oil in protecting my collectibles. Ballistol in a needle applicator bottle is so much easier to work with. Thanks for making a show I deeply enjoy! Especially the episodes covering odd or obscure pieces.

My father was a Chilean police officer in Carabineros de Chile, he trained in 1960 with a Mauser carbine. Actually I have his carbine (he died 13 years ago), he managed to get his hands on one. But I still have some questions, the carbine lacks some markings, appears to be made by Steyr, and it was not refurbished for 7.62 Nato, most likely because it was destined to police and army training (like the case of my dad). I wish you could research for odd variants, I still have trouble identifying my dad's rifle. Great series, thanks for sharing!

Good plugging on how much better Ballistol is than WD-40 for use on firearms. I have used it to free up firearms that CLP has turned to a gummy sticky mess being in long-term storage. I had some in storage for a decades, was frozen up. The CLP even removed the bluing that led to surface rusting. I have not had that problem with Ballistol.

As a Chilean I love this. The long carabiner it was probably very used. They use it those in several conflicts and even after the adoption of the FAL the army and police still use it. It is after all, the symbol of the chilean police (Carabineros). The short 1895 original are more rare.

1911 Argentine also .30-06 sportizied (?). Heard US after WWI passed out tons of .30-06 so Argentina rechambered their rifles. Mine had an unworking safety and next to no wear on rifling. Simple grind a small radius on safety lever.

You give the overall length of a rifle but not the barrel length. Why? Especially when you mention the first carbines had to be made a little longer to properly handle the new Spitzer bullets!
