Claiming people think Cowboy Bebop looks like a mid-2000s show is an invention as well. Cowboy Bebop is the most 90s looking show probably since ever, even though it was released pretty late. Basically the cumulation of that decade. As for animation quality that's way beyond its years, Patlabor. I can't fathom how hard they must have worked to be able to do that in the 80s and then the 90s. I'm convinced Oshii Mamoru dictated the 90s, and Japanese mass culture in general, by bringing neo-noir to mainstream. But, I can understand the basis of the sentiment. As with everything else, we consume the previous decade media, this decade. At least that's how it used to work. Evangelion only really took off in the West in 2000, 5 years after its initial airing. It's the internet that enabled all of us to keep up with the time.

people genuinely seem to have forgotten just how popular MHA is. nowadays it's just part of the mainstream of course not that much hype behind it. it's just something people consume every season. but between 2017 and 2019 ?? it had such a strong hold on anime in general lmao it's literally in the top 10 of the best selling manga of all time. 💀💀💀

yeah despite the claims that it fell off and no one talks about it that comes from Trash Taste, it was still a major shounen jump title and was consistently one of the highest selling manga every year and the anime also gets a ton of views, it's just it's not the most popular anime out there anymore like when it first premiered, which is just the nature of most anime.

I think he misunderstood the point of the video. The popularity of the ops may be influenced by the anime they are attached to but fundamentally as music they also stand on their own and can be significantly more popular in isolation than the ops of other more popular anime. Airs op is a good example of that. All this boils down to is this is a list of the most popular anisong of the year but with a focus of it being ops only rather than ops, eds and inserts.

@@joshbrosh6626 My advice is don't worry too much about it. Most Gundam entries are part of what's called the Universal Century, or are self-contained. As long as you don't watch obvious sequels before their preceeding entries (ZZ, SEED Destiny, season twos, etc.) you'll probably be fine. If you really want more info, there are plenty of "Gundam timeline" images and articles out there, I recommend reading r/anime's Gundam section of their Watch Order page. Air's "Tori no Uta" was a big hit on Nico Nico Douga in Japan, and it was called the "national anthem" among Japanese otaku. However, as a Japanese anime fan, there are many points on this Top 100 list that I cannot agree with. (The OPs of Hellsing, Hunter x Hunter, and Noragami are not that well-known.) This is probably a reflection of the subjective opinions of the video creators.

@@mueshire "there is no absolute consistent way to do this" Of course there is. Which is the most popular _the year in question._ You do this by looking at the charts at the time and the awards at the time. "but since you're so insistent that you're correct what are you even so upset about with this ranking? what is so inaccurate?" _The methodology._ I dislike bad methodology. The methodology was horrible. They admit to it being in large part based on personal judgement, as well as in another large part a based on a standard that's wholly inappropriate to use as it's influenced not by appreciation for the music but instead by IP holders' whims. Insisting over and over that someone is knowledgable therefore they're using a good methodology is obviously mistaken. The methodology was shit. Sorry.

The first one is called Goldorak where I'm from and in the 70's it was such a beloved show it had a huge cultural impact. Every kid knew about it and I was born in 2003 and have seen every episode in the dub when I was like 10. That's an anime aired in the 70's and I watched it in 2013 as a normal thing removed from "weeb" culture at a time where anime was yet to truly explode in mainstream (about to though). I think this shows how huge this was. In fact it was such a success most of the following animes in the 80's and 90's were widely broadcasted in my country and there was a bit of a fall off in the 2000's but yeah, pretty big show.
