Claiming people think Cowboy Bebop looks like a mid-2000s show is an invention as well. Cowboy Bebop is the most 90s looking show probably since ever, even though it was released pretty late. Basically the cumulation of that decade. As for animation quality that's way beyond its years, Patlabor. I can't fathom how hard they must have worked to be able to do that in the 80s and then the 90s. I'm convinced Oshii Mamoru dictated the 90s, and Japanese mass culture in general, by bringing neo-noir to mainstream. But, I can understand the basis of the sentiment. As with everything else, we consume the previous decade media, this decade. At least that's how it used to work. Evangelion only really took off in the West in 2000, 5 years after its initial airing. It's the internet that enabled all of us to keep up with the time.

1997 also has the OP for the mecha anime "The King of Braves GaoGaiGar" with its iconic song "Yuusha Ou Tanjou! (The King of Braves is Born!)" by Masaaki Endoh.

If this wasn’t based on popularity and just how much I like it, apothecary diaries should have won 2023.
@enagah5 ай бұрын
It's not really based on popularity. The person that made this list decided on his own. There are openings that even won the best anime song of the year award in Japan and yet they were not picked in this video.

@@enagah”best song” once again denotes the quality and not the popularity lol so that’s a bad example

@@enagah don't even realize you contradict ur own sentences? Saying it's not based on popularity then pick examples for an award of "best anime song", also I heard he make the list with the help of some great aniranker

@@enagah It is based on popularity though, some songs were just better than others in their year and if someone doesn't like that than it's personal bias

Great to see Kuma getting some love. He's been making great videos about anime music for years.

I take a look at those videos for recommendations for anime/music (& to fall asleep to) but the lists are somewhat subjective. So you'll find a lot of people voicing their own opinions in the comments, just like here.

Saint Seiya was bigger in Mexico than it ever was in any other country in the west, so I know it well. So was DBZ but Saint Seiya was one of the most popular.

DNA ^2 was the first anime I ever binge watched; all episodes and OVAs! a 1994 Convention had the run looping in one of the video rooms and you CAN'T skip openings in those. After a while everyone gad it memorized and sang along to them. Imagine: A bunch of exhausted Texans trying to sing a Japanese anime song. Good times!

90% of 70s anime openings were sung by like the same 3-4 singers lol. Mizuki Ichiro and Sasaki Isao specifically monopolized mecha scene.

Well a lot of that was before record companies started sponsoring anime and having artists under their labels do the openings and endings.

The first one is called Goldorak where I'm from and in the 70's it was such a beloved show it had a huge cultural impact. Every kid knew about it and I was born in 2003 and have seen every episode in the dub when I was like 10. That's an anime aired in the 70's and I watched it in 2013 as a normal thing removed from "weeb" culture at a time where anime was yet to truly explode in mainstream (about to though). I think this shows how huge this was. In fact it was such a success most of the following animes in the 80's and 90's were widely broadcasted in my country and there was a bit of a fall off in the 2000's but yeah, pretty big show.
