The guy who designed the original B2 stealth bomber (the one from the 1950s) was a child when the Wright Flyer succeeded at Kitty Hawk. When they completed the revised B2 stealth bomber in 1992, they brought him out in his wheelchair to watch the reveal flights. He sat there and cried, saying that he finally understood why God had allowed him to live as long as he did.
@Shinzon23
@Shinzon23 Жыл бұрын
Wasn't the B2.. It was the concept and implementation of the "flying wing" designs that Jack Northrop had been working on for decades, and who had staked his company on getting the Flying Wing designs he had accepted into the US airforce... who then didn't and his fortunes went downhill from there. By the seventies, he was in very bad health to the point of being unable to speak for long and was afraid of all the research he did back in the thirties and forties going to waste, so he contacted nasa about donating his archives and papers and was told "we haven't forgotten the work you did" Towards the 80s when it was clear he wouldn't live much longer, Northrop Grumman contacted him and asked him to come into their offices were they showed him classified briefings on it and a scale model that he held in his hands. He then placed the model down, and because he couldn't speak, a pen and wrote down "I know why God kept me alive for the past 25 years!" He died less than a year later, and the B2 bomber shares the exact same wingspan as one of his YF series of flying wings he flew in the 30s and 40s.

Oregon does not grow more potatoes than Idaho, We produce 120 million CWT of potatoes every year, that’s 1/3 of the countries entire production. That’s happening in the Snake River Plain along the South of the state. Washington and Oregon are definitely both big producers, and the three work in obvious cooperation, but we have 300,000 acres dedicated to growing potatoes and do $1 Billion in sales, compared to your 43,000 acres and $218 Million. There’s a reason people associate Idaho with potatoes, and it’s not just the marketing that comes on the sack.

Mr. Terry, I was born in 1977. At the time my grandpa on my moms side was already 86 years old. He lived until he was 101 years old. In his lifetime he went from the invention of the airplane to space shuttles. No cars to cars going 200 mph. He saw the invention of the computer. The end of typhoid, fever, scarlet fever, smallpox, polio and whooping cough. When he was 10 years old Cy young was in his prime. When he died Greg Maddux was working on a second Cy young. Its unbelievable the change he saw in his life

I never realized anyone thought it was based on a true story. The way I always saw it was like war movies, unless they're making a movie about a soldier and what he really did, I don't watch every war movie believing it all happened just like that. The author should have been forthcoming about this, but it does depict common things that happened during this period, just like war movies not based on a true event display common things that happen in war.

Gotta do the State Flag episode. And don't forget the strangeness of Maryland's entry (freedom of/from religion being why the catholics ended up there) where it's only the state flag if it has a specific finial (tip) on the flagpole. Technically what was shown was the banner of Lord Baltimore, but nobody's cared about that in over a century. Also if real marylanders were confronted by a giant crab their reaction would be to smile and pull out a bigger can of Old Bay.

So fun fact about the flag of Hawai'i: the design of the current state flag is the same as that of the flag of the nation of Hawai'i. When Kamehameha I unified the islands into the Nation of Hawai'i, he actually wanted the flag to bear resemblance to the Union Jack as a sign to European powers that Hawai'i was a nation with ties to Europe (as part of the reason Kamehameha was able to complete his conquest was with the help of European weaponry). This is also the reason that the National Anthem (well, now state song) of Hawai'i, Hawai'i Pono'i, has the same tune as God Save the King/Queen ((Unfortunately, all this 'Sovereign Nation' stuff didn't help much against the US...)) Also, more stereotypes Peter could've hit for Hawai'i: SPAM (might've been a copyright issue but whatever), shave ice, surfboards, raw fish cut into cubes, and flip-flops (or, as we call 'em, slippahs)

The Walt Disney thing is actually a reference to Kansas City where one of his first studios was. Today it’s kinda run down, but I think they’re trying to restore it. Also, fun Kansas City history fact: the city was founded as a trading hub 10 years before the state of Kansas ever joined the union. It was named after the Kansas River which was named after the Kansa people who lived around it (originally know as the Kansa’s River.) Basically the idea was that traders could either take the Kansas out west, or they could take the Missouri to the Mississippi. The municipality only spilled over into Kansas because businesses in the Louisiana Territory try to trick creditors in New York into thinking they were part of a state instead of a territory. Sounds crazy, but that’s how it happened.

@@MrTerry As a Marylander (with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil War History), I disagree with your thoughts about our flag. I would like to make sure you know why we have such a distinct flag. Those two designs are the family crests of the Calvert and Crossland families that greatly contributed to the founding of Maryland. Then after the Civil War was over, in an effort to reunite Marylanders (who were extremely divided with loyalties between the Union and Confederacy. With one side using one part of the flag to rally under and the other side using the other part to rally under). The two parts were combined and have been like that since. I was honestly offended by your blunt comments. It goes well beyond just "picking one and going with it" as you said in this video and the flag ranking video. Bartman wasn't the cause of them losing though. He was treated poorly for no reason. They had multiple errors and many other mistakes that allowed the Marlins to score 8 runs that inning AFTER Bartman's interference. Any they had a whole game number 7 after that which the Marlins won. They did give Bartman a championship ring about 15 years later when they finally did win the world series.

Crabs and lobsters do feel pain and you can sometimes hear them screaming if you put them in the pot after it gets hot. Cold blooded animals in a pot of cold water and slowly heat it up they obviously still feel the pain as their skin blisters from the excessive heat, but they warm up as the water does so as long as it happens gradually they don’t notice it until they actually start cooking.

I did not know that, and it makes me glad I don’t hear that. I work at a Red Lobster. Been there for almost 8 months. Sometimes we bake lobsters. Sometimes we broil them. Sometimes they’re boiled. But we always killed them first. First off, it’s more humane that way. And it’s also safer. Because if you have a lobster thrashing around in the pot, water is gonna get everywhere and someone who is too close can get hurt

@25:32 Teddy was also the President that when Taft was being challenged by Wilson, Teddy ran as an American Progressive. Teddy is easily the blame for Taft only winning 2 states. And, while a record as being one of only two (Gov. George Wallace being the last 1968) third party candidates, to win electoral votes, I would entertain ideas that Teddy stole votes from the incumbent, but also took third party votes (independent) that may have tipped the scales in favor of Taft.

Fun Fact: The one thing that the Wright Brothers brought to the table that no one else at the time could because they didn't understand the principle was... THE PROPELLER!!! All other wanna-be airplanes at the time had Fan Blades on them; essentially flat pieces of steel welded to a hub at an angle and then bolted to the crankshaft of an engine. The Wright Brothers famously understood the concept of aerodynamics in such a way as to increase the angle of inflection of the propeller blade the closer it got to the hub. Just like on a merry-go-round, the closer in you are, the slower you are moving. On a propeller, the angle had to increase in order to divert more air on the inner edges of the blade in order to maintain consistent airflow, and thus, consistent thrust! This allowed them to actually take off from the ground instead off of a standing structure, famously oooing and aweing audiences at airshows in Britain & France as few people in the U.S. had little interest at the time. It was little more than an entertaining novelty until, yaknow, war happened. Suddenl,y everyone and their mother suddenly wants as many as they can get, yadda yadda yadda, The Night Witches! 😆😆😆

18:57 - aviation has been the most time compressed advancement ever, for sure. The peak of aviation innovation in the 1900s, from the first flight of an airplane to landing humans on the moon. We have refined airplane and jet/rocket engine technology, but during the advent of all of those things, as an engineer and pilot that would be the one point in time I would have loved to have witnessed and been a part of. Great point made and lots of historical lessons to be learned from that time!!!

so as a big baseball fan ill clarify Steve Bartman was in the stands listening to the play by play on the radio and watching, but the ball was in the stands and was his right to the ball and didn't interfere. this was game 6 of the NLCS best of 4 and immediately after the shortstop botched a inning ending double play which then resulted in the marlins scoring seven unanswered runs and the cubs would lose that game and then lose game seven and the marlins would go on to beat the yankees in the world series that year. he was receiving death threats for years and only in 2016 did people forgive him...for something he did nothing wrong. in a small interview he said he was sorry and that he doesn't hold anyone in bad faith for their reaction and that he is thankful the cubs gave him a ring when they finally won the world series and he just wants to go back to being a normal person again

That means when your family and my family came ashore from the Mayflower, his family was there waiting to greet them".
