They did raid, they were excellent and far ranging sailors and traders, but they mostly were looking for good farm land. This is why they conquered a huge amount of land in England ( the Danelaw), France, Ireland, and other parts of Europe.

Here Rick got it all wrong. He says vikings were not interested in land. The fact is that the vikings sailed out into the world looking for new land to settle, because in Norway there was not room for everybody to run a farm at that time. And it still isn't.
