Winter in the North American wilderness cannot be conquered. At best, it is endured. And only by those who will fight tooth and nail for the privilege of survival. Winter after bone-chilling winter, the Mountain Men have relied on ingenuity, tenacity and determination to weather the worst that the elements could bring to bear. But this season, that cold-forged mettle will be tested like never before.

His cabin In the woods he hasn't been to in years is nicer than alot of cabins people stay in year round. Tom is definitely the man. Not many people can do what he's done over the years. I'd say less than a handful of people his age can do what he does. Its absolutely amazing to me.

@David Jaeger 🤣 my comment - it might work for you if winter leaves out the "w" and you're just inter winter

@ John m. Hey if winter leaves out the "w" you can be inter the winter season. Might be a little easier. I come off a 670 acre dairy farm in the Catskill Mountains and it's great - it stays in your blood. But you gotta get out EVery day and do it. As you see, neighbors aren't close. In ancient days when a spouse died or the people got old, they would just go outside and die. Maybe in the snow whence the elements take you faster - but when it couldn't be done anymore because a spouse died or the hunter/trapper never came home - the partner went outside to die and meet their Maker.

There are so many difficulties to overcome while trapping Beaver. Unlike most other critters you have to go to them as they are limited to the water. Trapping them in the winter leaves your trail for thieves to steal your traps or catch or both? . Skinning, fleshing, stretching , and curing beaver is more labor labor intensive than with other critters, although some might equate it to Raccoon. (they smell a lot worse) Unless you have Tom's skills enabling you to tan hides and create something from the pelts, trapping ceased being profitable decades ago. Makes for good TV though!!

The editing on season 9 was terrible. In episode 12 Eustace was trying to rehab a motor for a rock crusher to pay off the loan on the land he was buying. But the motor started a fire and the bearings seized so the motor was a loss. The next episode 13 started out with Eustace planting a garden with no explanation of how he came up with the money he desperately needed to buy the land. WTF ????

think how tough Tom really is and I dont mean a tough man in the street but in the way of living that hard life style and grafting as hard as he has all them years must be a tough old boy to keep on going fair play to him hope I'm half as active as him when I'm older aha 😂😂

Okay, okay, I admit it. I am WAY to immature to listen to the commentary on this clip. Especially when they tell us how difficult it gets to pull beaver in the Winter.
