@@historyprofilesI'm so damn curious now but I'm leery of the DNA ancestry blood tests through the mail (cuz I don't know what they are doing with the results after they send the copy to me) but anyways I'm curious about the 🐍 in the 👁️ mark of Sigurd as I have the exact same thing in my right eye, I have O+ blood, and I know that I am from strong bloodlines of Irish, Danish/Welsh, Scottish and I don't know what else as I've never had my blood tested and what I do know is from family traditions I have been taught, but I'm not having any luck with my maiden name as far as what it says about my heritage....... So my question is do you know of any others in history with "Sharpe" as the surname?
@mouthofthesouth4267
@mouthofthesouth4267 7 ай бұрын
@@jonswanson7766I think I have their bloodlines in me too but I don't know how to be positive🤦🏼‍♀️ but I have the snake in the eye mark in my right eye, I'm blonde haired blue eyed naturally, O+ blood type, my maiden name is Sharpe (this I'm struggling to find a concrete answer as to where my surname is from) and I know this isn't any kind of science based truth or facts but I have been drawn to the North Sea and the surrounding areas and I have dreamt of Scottish and Irish landscapes since as far back as I can remember........ And my husband tells me if I have any kind of foreign lineage he'd bet his last dollar that my stubbornness and need to balance the scales when it comes to being done wrong or the fact that I can not stand any kind of injustice and I have been raised Christian but always have been drawn to runes and Norse mythology so much so that my mother threatened me that she'd have me exorcised if the heathens within me if I didn't stop talking about this pagan history nonsense 😡🤦🏼‍♀️(closed minded parents were such a pain in the ass and I right) I'm not going to say that I don't believe in the God of the Christian Bible but I don't think we have enough of the true information to make an educated decision whether or not there are other gods besides the one that Christianity worships 🤦🏼‍♀️ due to a lot of the Roman Catholic church injecting so many untruths and withholding so much history they didn't fit in their narrative and would therefore mess with their ability to control the masses😡 and that shit really boils my blood but I digress that's another issue for another video lol😂 but I would appreciate any historical info you might have that will help me with my ancestry quest lol I'm like a historical knowledge sponge 😂😊😂😊😂😂😊

I've never figured out how King AElla managed to maintain a pit of venomous snakes in Northern England? Adders are the only indigenous venomous snake and they're far from common.

It could simply be a tale and Ragnar didn’t die that way or, he could have had the snakes imported, we often forget how trade was a massive thing in medieval times

@paulleverton9569
@paulleverton9569 Жыл бұрын
@@rhzyo The Medieval Warm Period didn't start until around 950AD, 83 years after the death of AElla. I'd be interested to learn by what reasoning you've decided that Northumbria had 'a lot more snakes' in the mid 9th Century. The fossil record shows that Ireland never had any snakes and Britain only ever had a few.

@rhzyo Жыл бұрын
@@paulleverton9569 you said it yourself that they had adders, so there would have been a bigger population back then, just like there would have been more deer or other native wildlife. Even if he did die by a pit of snakes they wouldn't have had to be venomous to kill him. I'm not sure if he died by snakes or dysentery(which is another tale) or any other way, I'm not even sure that the Ragnar everything talks about was even real, could have been multi ppl mixed into one story, we are yet to know.

This is interesting. At the tail end of backtracking my Bornholm line, Gorm the Old appeared. The connection is shaky but my biggest disappointment was the name....Gorm....the Old. We couldn't have a cool Viking name like Erik Blood Axe or Lars Skull Splitter. Not even Gorm the Great or the Mighty but the OLD.!! That dumped cold water on this branch so I dropped it to work other family branches. So this video shows up. Its the best I've seen for this topic, so professional looking and organized. It really adds to my understanding how these different names were connected. Gorm the Old has a lot more prestige now. Our family "anchors" are Zealand and Bornholm.

My dads side of the family migrated to the US from Norway in the early 1800s….. their last name was Anno….. there is a town in Norway where they all came from where the last name originated where people still live today. They have traced the family lineage back to some Norwegian royalty…. Coincidentally Knute is a name that has been handed down for generations in my family and I believe it’s still being used by some of us to this very day.

@Hollero71
@Hollero71 11 ай бұрын
Lagertha is most likely a mythical character, same as Ragnar. She is mentioned briefly in the Gesta Danorum. There are no other historical records of her existence and Bjorn “Ironside” was actually the son of Aslaug. The Vikings tv shows are very entertaining but usually not historical. I would say the films/tv shows that are the most accurate are The Last Kingdom and The Northman.

So... the ragnar tales are re-tellings of volsungsaga. Sigurd "snake in the eye" and sugurd of the volsungs are not the same character. Faufnir was killed by sigurd of the volsungs. much like "ragnar shaggy grieves" is often said to have had magic fireproof pants but that too is just ripped off from volsungsaga.
