i always wondered why my friend would act sexually towards men, get them and then assume it was a relationship...even if the guy disregarded her. it wasnt a real relationship. but to her it was a big deal. she would dress to the 9's wether it was a funeral, school meeting or going to the gym. she loved getting attention from men and often chose friends who were less attractive than her to boost her self esteem. she would also flirt with my boyfriends often. to the point where i didnt want to bring my partners around her. she embarrassed me with her displays of sexuality and when i would point out to her 'look this guy is not into you, he's into the sex your giving him' she would disregard it. thank you for this. my eyes are opened now.

I have HPD. My therapist said it started when I was 9 and realized I could use my appearance and flirtation to get what wanted. I was emotionally neglected and found approval and the attention I needed in men. I can’t even have a male therapist because I fall right back into being seductive and flirtatious. I’m also borderline. So even though I have the same diagnosis as Amber Heard, mine presents differently. I’m considered a quiet, impulsive borderline so I don’t lash out at people, but I do tend to lash out at myself and find items around me that I can injure myself with. I’m actually way better than I was 5 years ago. My therapist says it takes about 10 years of intense therapy to no longer reach the diagnostic criteria.

For those who also have a substance use disorder- they may consider excellent sting that pace by doing the 12 steps. Of course you need a GOOD sponsor and you need to be brutally honest with your motives. But it sounds like you’re already there. I found recovery in the steps and by the time I realized I have BPD- I no longer felt the need to do the therapy thing. Wind fullness and contrary action are all I needed. That is, being fully aware or my behaviors and WHY I did what I did, combined with choosing healthier options. This includes building up my self worth. It’s still been a tough road but I no longer check off every single box for BPD. It’s not gone tho- it is better and goes dormant at times too when life is really good, but it can and does come back if I get lazy and rest in my laurels regarding my recovery.

I wonder if we really need to call some of these groups of personality traits “disorders”. Now obviously if you recognize these traits as something that actively disrupts your life, I’m not saying you’re wrong or that the disorder label isn’t valid. But up until the point where those personality traits you describe become disruptive, they’re just personality traits and there’s nothing inherently wrong with having them. We don’t get to choose our traumas, they’re a part of who we are whether we like it or not. All we can do is learn to control them to an extent and rein them in enough to prevent them from disrupting our lives. All that is just to say that there’s nothing wrong with being who you are if who you are doesn’t bother you or disrupt your life. It’s okay to be more flirtatious than most other women. Hell, you might just find that there’s people out there who need a person like you to bring the best out of them; and help them overcome some of their own disruptive personality traits in a positive way. Before humans had psychologists to over analyze our behaviors, we were just human beings. We existed as we were for thousands and thousands of years before psychology was a thing. Not that psychology can’t be helpful or anything, but I think sometimes we over do it and end up judging people for things they were never meant to control or resist in the first place. It’s okay to be who you are, within reasonable limits.

She will also overreact and blow her symptoms out of proportion when she gets sick, yet refuses to see a doctor when she actually requires one, but at the same time goes to the doctor constantly for menial reasons! On top of this, she also doesn’t take care of herself. I never said that" and she starts telling me how some waitress fuked with my sister in a small way, and even though witnesses were on my sister's side, she had a meltdown and started crying and turning them off. So, I'm hearing this and she walks toward the car, yelling at me and using fight words like I was that waitress! Wtf? In my experience, the difference between histrionic and other cluster B disorders is extreme displays of public raunchiness. Like flashing, public nudity, saying sexually vulgar things. She would literally say and do things intentionally to try and make me hurt and jealous just to get attention (talking about other guys) Gets bored easily and serial dumps/dates to make herself feel better. I act similarly to the symptoms of this disorder. I have all these symptoms and I’ve been recently coming to this about myself. I feel hated and rejected if I’m not constantly in the positive attention of people. I feel like I’m doing something wrong and I’m a terrible person and everyone hates me and are just waiting to get rid of me and them ignoring me is the first step to fully getting rid of me. I find myself pulling away then I have to remind myself that it’s only my mind fucking with me and they don’t actually hate me. I try to be more dramatic with more flair more fun, to be the manic pixie dream girl that drew people to me in the first place but then they get used to me. They get bored. I start to think they get tired of me and that I’m no longer entertaining. Then I want to do something even more to top that and to be special and loved again. I heavily avoid relationships bc I don’t want to drag another person into this mess of feelings I feel. I don’t want to be the person with this disorder because it means I’m attention seeking- what if I’m constantly pushing myself too much on my friends so I can seem like the friendly one because I don’t want to be a bad/pushy irritable person. I don’t want to not care. I want to be the good friendly kind mom friend that is good to people and kind and funny, the one that everyone likes and trusts. I’m so tired. I really hate myself a lot. It’s distorted so much of my perspective. How I can’t tell what’s really happening because I use my distorted view to analyse it. I just feel exhausted. I don’t want to pretend to be who I’m not so I avoid people and go into stages of isolation, but then I remember I could b hurting those who care about me by avoiding, so I try to engage. I talk to someone and the second they smile at me or laugh at my jokes my brain just beams and I feel like they think of me as a friend! We’re friends now! Then I start trying to talk to them or accidentally watching for them in hallways which makes them obviously fucking uncomfortable. Then I realise how strong and creepy I’m coming on as and I back away so I don’t make them uncomfortable. I’m back to being alone again. It’s so shameful having to say- I want attention! I want to be praised I want all eyes on me I want everyone to think I’m a good and fun person! I want them to think I’m entertaining and captivating! I just want to be loved! Not adored or idolised, just recognised! In our society, people are mocked for wanting praise or recognition unless bestowed on them by the people when the people think they deserve it. I’m just tired. I can’t bring myself to care about anything even if the people do things for me. I feel guilty and sometimes angry. Why should I have to constantly thank you or fake thanks to satisfy you? Stop! I didn’t ask for this! Let me rot let me be. But I know it’s unfair and considered taking advantage so I am as polite as I can. But with those closest to me, I can’t bring myself to even appreciate anything. Constantly ungrateful I’m constantly complaining I’m tired and I wish I wasn’t such a fucking problem. I wish I wasn’t such an issue.

Good question. All of us have personalities with adaptive(helpful/good) and not so adaptive(bad) traits. I know I have some tendencies toward narcissistic and borderline thinking. I’m aware of it and keep it in check. We all have strengths and weaknesses. It only is considered a disorder when you have enough of the traits AND it is pervasive in most aspects of your life for long periods of time AND it impacts your ability to function in society. By definition a disorder is something that is causing you serious functional problems ie you can’t maintain close relationships or you are getting in trouble at work or at school because of it. If you have some of these traits, but it’s not ruining your life you probably don’t have the disorder. Someone who truly has a personality disorder often feels reassured by the diagnosis most of the time because it explains why things have been so horrible for so long and now it can be treated.

My sister had to deal with a super loving, doting Father one time, and an abusive monster at other times. She has tried to help that little girl ever since. Her far-left radical political beliefs contradict most of her other personal beliefs in freedom and religion.

You can’t fix personality disorders, you can only learn tools of how to cope with it better. You aren’t broken in any way, you just need a new toolbox :) I know for bpd people use DBT therapy not sure about bpd tho. Def research different kinds of therapy. I’m aware of DBT and CBT but there are probably more variants that are more specialized for hpd.

My husbands 19 year old daughter seems to have this. She's moved in with us and making our life hell at the moment. We've just had a baby (my first child but my husbands second.) She's extremely jealous of our beautiful son and is acting out. I can understand if she was young but she's nearly 20 and should be trying to make it on her own in the world but refuses to do anything for herself. I'm 31 and don't feel that much older than her so it's frustrating for me to have an adult women in our home making life difficult. I have a neighbor like this. I thought he had narcissistic personality disorder (he might have that too) and then I remembered HPD and had to KZbin it. This guy talks so loudly in his house that you can hear him on the street. When I got tired of responding to him, he looked angry. The way he approaches and talks to you he can make you feel cornered in an open field. I think much of HPD is a result of neglect or abandonment sometime in an HPD's early life because of their intense need for attention.

A drama queen could be someone who got attention and achieved their goals by relentlessly acting out. I can see how a parent could give in just to calm down their child in such a situation, teaching them that drama is the way to get what you want. @Space cadet What’s interesting with personality disorders is that most of them could be "cured" so to speak, with a really good therapist it could work out. Could take more time than less complex problems such as an anxiety disorder or depression, but hey it is personality we’re talking about. I would dissuade anyone to integrate a "personality disorder" as part of one’s core identity, that could be damaging AND it could also lead to feeling comfortable not challenging behaviour which is not well adapted to life later on, or that causes one suffering often. Problematic behaviour and cognition (thoughts, way of thinking and mentally reacting to events) can be changed for the better, all whilst retaining one’s core personality traits and true self. Personality traits are fine, and many people do have normal personality traits they develop (or are born with) that could fall under the umbrella of "histrionic", "theatrical", "emotional", "extroverted"… for others it may be different, "conscientious", "methodic", "rational", "introverted". There are plenty and all of those are fine, we’re all human beings with different personality traits and way of being. But a "personality disorder” is when some traits and behaviour and cognitive processes go way beyond and causes great suffering in the long run for the person who has it, as well for people around them, making them lose deeper relationships around them without understanding why and often impedes everyday social and professional functioning as the would person would like it to be deep down. So a "personality disorder” as such is not something one should make part of one’s core identity, it is not recommended. It can be accepted and understood, that is the first step to healing, but it shouldn’t be romanticized nor is it recommended to identify with it as one would say "I am an African American teenager with dimples" or "I am a young irish woman, with blue eyes", or even "I am an autistic young adult with blond hair” (autism is one of those rare disorders in the DSM that has been shown in most cases to be for the most part genetic). Those are not pathological in nature, this cannot be “cured" or modified and are purely biological genetic components. Personality disorders are not purely genetic/biologically induced (a big part has to do with environmental cues and factors, PLUS the whole genetic predisposition thing can be influential underneath in some cases), and more importantly they are definitively changeable and the pathological aspect curable. They have been shown over and over in studies and case studies and practice, that it is possible to "cure" the problematic aspects of the disorder in a person, letting her remain with his/her own personality traits underneath but in a non pathological manner, thus making them freer to live their life as they truly desire without suffering as much.

I have it, along with BPD traits and autism and ADHD... women can really develop horrible personality disorders if thet go undiagnosed... I got my Histrionic personality disorder diagnosis in 2021 and autism and ADHD in 2023! I reject Histrionic personality disorder so much before my AuDhd diagnosis, but there's no point anymore, because AuDhd is the reason I have it and of course trauma... I'm suffering a lot from regrets when I behave like that to my beloved family, and the reason I don't have friends is not only AuDhd which is the main reason yes, but I am super competitive with othee girls and don't accept when they complement their appearance and not mine. I don't have a problem with others completing them, as long as though they complement mine as well, and not just my clothes which are very eccentric.

@Whowhodatdat It sounds like you’ve been on quite a journey to understand yourself, especially with multiple diagnoses and navigating the complex feelings that come with them. Self-discovery, especially when it involves conditions like AuDHD, BPD traits, and Histrionic Personality Disorder, can feel overwhelming, and it’s totally normal to have mixed emotions about it all. Remember, awareness is a powerful first step-it can be a guide toward understanding yourself better and finding ways to build healthier connections with family and others. Be kind to yourself on this path; each step forward is a testament to your resilience and willingness to grow. 🌱💙

Also, she talks to him about her dating life and refers to him as her ' buddy'. I can not begin to tell you the hell that his dad and I have been thru . ASPD mainly affects men while histrionics mainly affects women. ASPDs will often portray rebellious traits against rules and authority, hence why many prison inmates actually have ASPD. Histrionics are just wildly attention seeking via sexuality, actions, etc but aren’t generally rule breakers. Also, with ASPD they do what they do because they don’t care about what others think nor the consequences while histrionics do it for the exact opposite reason. Lastly you have to be at least 18 to be diagnosed with ASPD, but I’m pretty sure the same doesn’t apply for the latter.

And when he showed up to court with a rose for the cameras since “people are already talking” Also the types of roles he takes are great outlets I would imagine for someone with hpd. Although because a lot of people watching the trial are speaking about hpd very badly I would assume that pointing out these qualities in jd would be mistaken as an attack on his character. im wondering if this was my ex, she seemed so perfect in the relationship until the 8 month mark where i didnt seem like i was as in love. she seemed to seek constant validation and approval from me or from other guys. Since me breaking up with her, she decided to embrace this by going on constant ONS, constantly flirting online, constantly flirting in friend groups which I sadly helped get her into. I feel disgusted that I was about to spend the rest of my life with this person without seeing the obvious red flags The scary bit is as much as she says she has no clue what shes doing. She is smart enough to be manipulative. And plays her cards well to open about herself but seemingly wanting to be better, when in reality she just wants the attention. Really played me hard and i instantly blocked her from everything to avoid getting into contact. Genuinely scared me how easily i fell into her trap, and seeing her do it to other guy friends which are hostile to me now because im ex is really worrying how much control she has. Its scary how she embraces her need for attention by being honest yet seemingly interested. I know her well enough to know she could do the right thing, but always ends up doing the wrong thing instead. The only things she does right is anyway she can get attention

I would ask him “why is that even there and it’s empty? I don’t even drink pop like that” and it was an over drawn out fight!! When I tried to leave he cornered me in the room and throw me to the bed and tried to force me to stay by going down on me…. It was the most traumatic experience I’ve ever been in… the harder I fought back the more manipulative and aggressive it got…. Especially if I tried to leave. If I was ever able to leave he would post topless pictures on social media and tell everyone “these hoes ain’t loyal”. He also has a bunch of gay friends who always been trying to shoot their shot at him. Like if you’re a heterosexual man and all your gay friends wanna fuck you they ain’t your friends….He craves that attention that much that he’ll get it from ANYONE… male or female… Hiding my keys, my wallet.
