@phu cue Definitely worth making lemonade out of lemons! This was actually the first time ever that I didn't chase waves the evening after the storm. Waves didn't get epic, and family needed help, which was more important. But i agree... might as well surf and take the good with the bad!

I used this video for my classes at a Florida middle school. Students had to create two claims as a problem-fixing argument, and one counterclaim. I ended up watching this six times. I've watched it eight times. In FL, three days of school were canceled, so the students had an empathy perspective, too.

So sorry your community had to go through this. But it’s amazing all the support everyone has for each other. Can’t wait to support the local businesses in August. My family has been vacationing here for 15 years. Also, seeing the fish house flooded broke my heart (just as much as when I found out it closed).

Glad your family made it through o.k. Looks like your pretty high we’re your house is which helps a lot. I use to live on Pensacola beach in Florida and rode hurricane opal out and swore I’d never do it again. Opal was a cat 3 ,we had 4 foot of water in our house and had to ride the storm out standing on the kitchen counters. For a month there was no power and we basically camped out in our yard while we cleaned up. The Salvation Army was a god send with meals on wheels.. amazing the contrast, love surfing hurricanes but they can seriously disrupt families and lives..

It's crazy to think what this dorian was like at a 5 at its peak hitting the Bahamas(those small islands) for a what 2 days? This hurricane was particularly erie! I live in flordia and although my family is new to flordia from MS. People who have lived here through many hurricanes said this one was just terrifying. Thanks for sharing! Glad everyone's okay and hopefully by now things are somewhat back to normal. Also your little boy singing was possibly one of the most innocent melt my heart moments I have seen in a min.

I remember watching this video years ago, and I found it again today and rewatched it. I'm a weather enthusiast and southwest florida native and I'll say you guys got pounded pretty good there in the Hatteras area. Definitely lucked out compared to the apocalypse that happened in the bahamas. It was a cat 1 up there, a direct hit but still a cat 1. The northern bahamas got a cat 5, it was terrible! Still, looks like you may have caught a gust or two over 100mph where the audio starts to muffle from the sudden air pressure change. Awesome video!

Very good video. Well put together and well edited. I was vacationing at another beach in North Carolina that same week and was evacuated (though it turned out that area was hardly affected). It's also very good to hear you give glory to God in this video, and to hear your kids worshipping Him in the midst of a storm. Very refreshing in a world of social media where, in general, when you hear of God, He is being cursed and blasphemed.

Dude my family was supposed to stay in Frisco that week. I saw your IG post from the highschool and knew we had to cancel. We were all gutted to have to bail on a trip we'd been looking forward to all year, but even more gutted watching the places we know and love underwater like we've never seen in the 30+ years we've been going there (that pic of the deer swimming towards Frisco R&G comes to mind). Hope things are almost back to normal. We'll be back next year.

That is a bummer you guys couldn't come. I couldn't imagine having a wrench thrown in your vacation plans like that. That sucks. I greatly appreciate yalls sympathy in the matter though, as there were a lot of people who come here that were angry they couldn't make it. Never understood how people could lack such understanding. Things are back to normal business wise on Hatteras, but Ocracoke is still shut off to visitors. A lot of people in both areas are still displaced due to their homes needing rebuilt.

@@brettbarley Yeah dude. After going through a few storms/evacuations (the bonner bridge transmission line debacle) down there we've gotten to know that odd tension bt renters/locals/agencies. It's a bummer for everyone, but even if they opened the bridge for tourists I wouldn't feel right having a beer on the beach while people are ripping out their drywall and floors. We ended up making the best of it and I'm sure ya'll are doing the same. Cheers

the way things look on the outside, and the way they are on the inside, are two different things. Some business' didn't open back up after the storm. A lot of people are still displaced from their homes. Things you don't really see. But in comparison to Ocracoke, we are plenty well off. Down there is still a mess.

Vinegar does... but you're right, Bleach isn't great, cause the Mold can come back. Theres better stuff out there now. "Bleaching homes" has just kinda become a term around here after these things, cause that was the main way to disinfect up until the last few storms.
