It is established previously that there are times when the court case involves getting Gary in front of that person. And if that happened the affair would have come into light. Moreover, Jasper was already onto them and if the husband got arrested, Jasper would've tried to get Gary caught as well. That's why the only option was to scare him away.

I would disagree a bit. It had a huge potential, but I found it too slow, too chatty. The is chemistry between the two, Glenn Powell does have star power (that we didn't see since Brad Pitt maybe?) but I found the direction too safe to entertain.

I get that… the direction certainly does feel very safe, but I think that’s why I liked the sudden discomfort of that final confrontation. Like, wait a minute, this is very quickly becoming something muuuuuch darker, like it almost lulled me into a false sense of safety that made that turn so jarring and exciting. -Ev
