In tennis you grip the racquet tightly - do that in badminton and you'll get nowhere. Relaxed grip and float around the court for badminton. It's a more subtle game than slogging about on a tennis court. And you don't get to have a sit down every 4 points or so!

Be sure to always start from the exact same position, and move as few muscles as possible, to make the movement very simple, then practice for muscle memory. Can also consider running a string 10 cm/4" parallel to and above the net, ensuring your bird crosses the net in that range.
