One thing Ian is good at is focusing on few things. You can tell this woman does not pronate, has a waiter's tray motion, and probably uses a forehand grip. But it takes FOREVER to change that if you have muscle memory. Instead, Ian focuses on things that can yield positive results more quickly.

Was ian hitting overheads with his right hand?

No, if you look at where his overheads are recorded it is clearly flipped (the wall and court next to them). At 1:36, the man on the far side of the screen can be seen doing his preparation with his left hand. 90% of people are right-handed, so we can be at least 90% sure that he is not hitting them with his right hand. He is most likely demonstrating what to do with his right hand, but when he actually hits them he uses his left hand and they flip the footage.

@@transklutz my guess is that Ian is smart enough to choose winnable battles. Plus a grip change would necessitate changes throughout the kinetic chain of her overhead and he probably didn’t want this to be a 1 1/2 hour video. He also probably forgot his bottle of crazy glue as that is what is usually necessary when trying to get a beginner tennis player to switch to a continental grip.
