Bass the outer seals need to be installed around the other way,the way you have them when you grease the pin the seals will be blown out with the grease pressure hope this helps,old lineborer from NZ

If them expander pins strike you as handy Baz, get a little 220v Hitbox or Yeswelder flux core machine & prepare to be amazed at how well those work for getting bushes out - they don't care much about grease, are nice & light & bang on a bead that shrinks them bushes real fast.

Brilliant technology for the pin; it's just like an ER collet for a lathe to flex and take up the slack of movement. Absolutely brilliant piece of kit. To all of the lads in, and outside, the shop that put in the hours not shown in the episodes, and the chronicles, you are appreciated by the people that watch this channel because we know that you take each process to heart, and are precise with what you do. As always, thanks for the content. Cheers from the US.

@gettogo0159

@@orville697 Think of it this way.... it's a go to fix - cheap never permanent but in time the bore hole will go so out of shape that line boring - weld - reboring to size is going to be the only fix not a expanding fixing. This invention is purely down to the lack of skilled work force & price gouging that is happening by the big players. As you said their always be a small operator/machinist (former employee) that be better value & quality in the work that out weighs this new 'item'. So the money lost vs the fix is what it come down to. If the fix a dirt cheap - PRC made it I bet it will fit the tight fisted operators to the other side that will pay good money to get a permanent fix in the movable areas.

It is a permanent fix - the expanding sleeve deforms to match the ovality in the lug hole, has a Lifetime warranty, proven in manufacturer field trials +50,000hrs. while line boring is not permanent, the repair lasts on average 4-5,000hrs, @@gettogo0159

Those expander pins are pretty much 'taper locks'. We use the idea for locking steel wheels onto axles, works a treat and also easily adjustable. You can also buy pulleys and sprockets which lock onto a shaft in a similar way, holds on much better than grub screws etc.

Hiya, I’ve seen this system used before on a 40ton Komatsu a few year’s back. It’s not an accurate case study though as the operator that worn the original used his machine like a sledgehammer and had a bad habit of slewing into material as a stop instead of countering in the lever to come to a stop in a limestone quarry. Rough doesn’t come close. As a freelance op I was curious how the system lasted once I’d moved on after the holiday cover arrangement I was contacted by Dave the on-site dedicated head fitter 7months later of 12hr shifts. Under the same set in his ways op that wouldn’t take advice doing the same thing’s the bushes didn’t last as long as the original set up and still had to be bored out eventually. However in normal use case with a good op he felt the system would be a game changer for companies that traded in machines before 5000 hrs that wasn’t under such duress clearing blast sites and large hammer work and loading 3-4ft boulders into the crusher with a poor op.
