Expat from US residing in Ukraine- A lot of drivers in post soviet countries drive crazily. What is crazy is that they don't even think about how unsafe it is. Drivers will be talking on the phone, handling change (because you pay cash to the drivers) and driving at the same time. This is the case for two reasons: 1) most people do not take a proper driving test to get their license in post soviet countries. If you take the written test you will always fail. You are not allowed to see the results and what questions you got wrong. You fail until you pay (also called a bribe in the west). And since most people know this they just pay at the get go so you end up with drivers who never actually studied the rules (and if you have the pleasure of getting a drivers handbook in a post soviet country you will find it is many many times bigger than the western word. The goal isn't simple rules. The goal is over complexity to overwhelm a person into just paying the bribe. 2) police in post soviet countries do not drive the streets stopping rule breakers like in the West(they would have to stop everyone :-)). instead, road police stand on the side of the road and with a trained eye stop drivers. They are looking for a person who looks like they are wealthy enough to pay them off but not too rich to have connections. They will stop you even if you didn't do anything just to waste your time in the hopes that you will give them a couple of dollars(after conversion). It is getting better in places like Ukraine with the rehiring of their entire police force after their revolution. But it is still bad in places like Russia and Georgia. The great thing is that you will never be beaten or shot by a Georgian pig and locals are never afraid of police they just have to pay. Get stopped driving too fast- just pay. Get caught drinking and driving- just pay. We have Uber in Kiev and that has dramatically changed the taxi culture. What mcdonalds did to customer service in post soviet countries Uber is doing to driving culture. Enjoy the adventures brother!

Man, traveling in Georgia is my best traveling experience up to date. Most amazing place I've visited. Very real, not all made up like most economically super advanced countries, suuuper authentic with exceptional cuisine and people that are a treasure! Their hospitality is unmatched, they're very sincere and shockingly friendly, with a lot of genuine pride and love for their motherland and respect in their traditions, folklore and culture (which is what actually keeps the up to this very day as unique and authentic as they are). But the driving - yep, that's a different subject. It is the I'd say only thing that kind of sets a negative impression. You've already figured it out after your whole stay in Georgia but for the people watching - no, guys, he's not unlucky with drivers, this is indeed the general driving manner in Georgia - cutting road bends and/or passing on blind turns, rarely using lights unless it's the evening/dark, rarely (if ever) using blinkers, not slowing down or stopping for pedestrians or animals on the street/road unless there's literally no way of going around them to avoid them and so on and so on (just naming a few traits). Still, to be perfectly honest, 11/10 traveling experience over there, I believe it's a must for any traveler who has claims to know good places around the world. Plenty of landmarks too - mindblowing natural diversity (in such a small area), almost 3-milennium long Georgian history that has left traces to present day and charming architecture, just to name a few :)

This, exactly. So true to my experiences in Georgia. To add to the driving madness; the "two"-lane russian military highway constantly being used as a 3-lane road, where the middle lane could be used for either direction depending on testicular size and madness.

Damn, Georgia is very similar to the Balkan countries. Drivers used to be scary in Albania as well, but about 6 years ago the new gov started to fine everyone for every little thing they did wrong while driving and that helped a lot.

Yeah, they used to be crazy but now you get fined for every little thing and if you pass the speed limit say bb to your driver license, there are police with radars everywhere. We even get fined for not turning on the car lights during the day lol

Thats funny. I have a russian friend who practically grew up in NZ and he is this monster whenever he gets behind the wheel. Weird thing is hes a teacher with young children, lives a nice respectable life. But whenever he drives he becomes this agreesive rule breaking imbecile. I guess maybe the bas driving behaviour in these countries is very ingrained. Even a cultural custom or something?

- 2:29 - I love this. I don't mind paying high prices - if it actually costs that much. But I don't like paying white tax (what I call it in Asia). They charge you more because you are a foreigner. Frustrating. I am currently in a part of Vietnam where people are very honest. I have found that even children who see an equivalent of $.10 on the ground, they will not pick it up because 'it is not theirs'. Interesting. I love it 💪🏽

I love this country!! The people are strangely familiar, because they are Russian ( I am Czech ) but they are also Arab/Middle eastern. Very interesting mix! Also as a European I got my DNA test done and my ancestors come from Caucasus Mountains, so thanks for showing me around. I feel very welcomed there!

If u think Georgians are either Russians or Arabs u have to read few books about history of our country culture and ethnography and u will find that we are unique, also read Charles Darwin's book about how Georgian people (women and men who were exiled) to Arab world corected their DNA. Here is ethimology of word caucasian(white race):The appellation Caucasian for the grouping was popularized by Johann Friedrich Blumenbach, who named it after the category's archetypal skull, a cranium of a woman from Georgia in the Caucasus region. and excerpt :Caucasian variety - I have taken the name of this variety from Mount Caucasus, both because its neighborhood, and especially its southern slope, produces the most beautiful race of men, I mean the Georgian; and because all physiological reasons converge to this, that in that region, if anywhere, it seems we ought with the greatest probability to place the autochthones (original members) of mankind. i would be grateful if u delete or change your misleading wrong statement about Georgian people who are unique ethnic group with subethnic groups withing it's territory.

I am not an expert on anthropology, that's just how I view Georgians from my perspective. Every nationality is unique.

@@radkabuddy1112 If you think that Georgians are Russians and Arabs than you firstly need to recover from your strange brain injury. Whatever that may be, asshole.
