Hitchhiking Maps - Choosing your spot

This is exactly what I did. Google maps is and was a life saver when I went hitchhiking. I bought Ipad mini so I can use google maps on the go. No one has done videos like this for tips about hitchhiking, thanks Kenny!

Hey Robert, for some reason I can't reply directly to your comment, that happens sometimes, not sure why, no reply link. Anyhow, I default to throwing my bag in someone's backseat or the bed of a pickup truck, sometimes it's on my lap if space is crammed, and sometimes it'll go in the trunk if they offer because of minimal space elsewhere. In every case where it's not on my lap I always leave the passenger door open or otherwise, even when getting out of the car, basically ensuring that there's never a moment where the driver is in the car with my pack and all doors are shut with me on the outside, just in case. Once I had someone drive off with my pack because I didn't adhere to that rule, it was a complete accident on their part, not malicious, I had said goodbye and close the passenger door before grabbing it from the back and they spaced. Got it back, that's another story, but I'm careful after that.

You might also add in your search, correctional facilities. It is usually against the law to hitch hike anywhere near these so, even if an in ramp looks amazing, if it's close to a prison, you probably won't get a ride. Back in my hitching days I used to hate it when people would drop me off close to a prison.

Prisons happen, I've gotten picked up directly in front of those signs before, it's usually good for a laugh when the driver looks up and sees it right after scooping you up. All the same, I'd rather avoid those areas too.

when you get into someones car can you trust to just throw your pack into their trunk or do you always keep it up front with you?
