Hi Guys. Been following you since about a week ago and just LOVE your vids. I'm from Cape Town, South Africa. I lived in Taiwan for the year of 2000. Hualien was our favourite weekend destination, took the slow train from Taoyuan, hitched up the mountain an camped and hiked and swam in the hotsprings. Best memories EVER. Love that place and all the jade rocks - it is breathtaking. Look out for the giant moths, so beautiful. My mom even came to visit me while I ived there, and the two of us hitchhiked to Toroko Gorge. She didnt know what hit her!! So nice to see you going there. Special place and yes, Taiwanese people are the absolute kindest and most helpful. Have fun and keep it up!

Lekkah ;) That sounds like a great adventure. Taiwan is such an amazing place full of great stuff to do. People are just too kind here indeed. How's life in Cape Town now?
@doorstepgems82564 жыл бұрын
@@NaickKim Lekka to hear from you!!!! :D Thx for the reply! Well, Cape Town life right now is a little challenging, the economy is suffering a great blow due to Covid-19 and we also are rapidly approaching our Covid peak - so everyone is gearing for a surge in cases and deaths - which is grim unfortunately. We have been opening up local businesses slowly but surely and it still is one of the most beautiful places on earth, with some STUNNING summery days in mid-winter which is a blessing. Locals are out in droves for walks along the coast and in parks now that there's little else to do - much more than before. I think this lockdown season has reminded us of the beautiful gems on our doorstep. Fantastic to see you guys adventuring and enjoying life amid this global situation, it gives us all hope that things will be OK again so THANK YOU! Also, I'm reliving my time in Taiwan through you - totally in love with the place and finding the fan comments very informative. Because of your vids I'm actually seriously considering coming back as soon as the borders open to work for another year or so - albeit 20 years later! :D Stay safe guys and keep it coming! xxx

Hitchhiking in Orchid Island is quite common. Like Green Island, it is an island of its own. People help each other out all the time on Orchid Island. It doesn't happen as often in the Taiwan main island. Some people chose to bike around Taiwan since there are bike trails all around (but not in the mountain area).

It still looks pretty much the same,very alive and beautiful, the sea and the bridge and the rocks all in one place makes it so special . @@KwazyBoba Agreed. If you have a male companion, as in the case of Naick and Kim, that will be safer. Even though Taiwan is pretty safe, there are still criminals! It would be quite safe to try sole in Taiwan. The people are friendly and the Taiwanese police actually have an app for people can send an emergency signal and the police can find your location. Among the 16 indigenous tribes recognized in Taiwan so far, Amei tribe is the biggest one and has a population of more than 200,000. They live in Haulian and Taidung area and some moved to big cities. Every year they hold the traditional festival called milisin (豐年祭) in July and August. There are more than 100 villages and settlements tending to hold the festival and they'll talk to each other and hammer a schedule out for each village to host the festival. During the festival, they get together singing, dancing, hunting and enjoy rice wine unique to themselves. Taiwan is considered to be the original place of Austronesian people and they'll be glad to see westerners attend their festival but it's better to bring them some beers as gifts.
