Beautiful! Big fan of Pandit ji here - and love Shekhar Suman as well. Shekhar Suman carefully keeps out the fact of Pandit ji's two wives (bigamy) though - he talks as if he had only one wife. Of course this was pre-Wikipedia, so most people would never find out... and Pandit ji probably didn't want to discuss family matters on a TV show.

That arranged marriage comment must have hit home to Panditji. Shekar Suman probably didn't know Punditji had two wives, one arranged and one love. For a while he tried to live with both wives, didn't work out. The first wife lived separately and her kids were quite neglected.

All these comments about Shekhar not being a Hindustani music buff are right, but it is alright to not be an expert in music if one wants to be a talk show host/actor. It is silly to think that someone will suddenly 'acquire' 5-10 years' worth of knowledge just for one interview; at best, one can do a bit of prep for each guest on the show. I am sure Shekhar didn't step on set thinking, 'let's do a bad job today' - any artiste always wants to do a good job, to the best of their abilities, and I am sure he did too. Was it the best interview of Pandit ji? Perhaps not. Did it still do what the makers of the show had likely intended to do, namely to introduce Pandit ji to a new generation of telespectators and promote his then new album Siddhi? Yes. The tone of these talk shows, as we all know, is intended to be both informative and light-hearted, which is exactly what this episode was, also. Given the tight time restrictions of television shows, they simply can't have the sort of longish interview some of us would like to watch - and that is not the purpose of a talk show in any case. For that matter, many others may have conducted what may be seen by some (including by me) as 'better interviews'. However, those 'better interviewers' did not have platforms such as TV shows (why that was so is an entirely different question). I am surprised by the lack of gratitude for a mainstream television channel that decided to present and promote the album of a person who, though we may all admire him, was NOT a typical, well known celebrity (Hindustani music has always been a fairly niche subject; again, why that is so is a different debate).
