This track was one of 7 historic tracks that rocked my world back then when I was 12 or so. The other were, roughly in order of importance: "Beat Dis" from Bomb the Bass "Doctorin' the House" from Coldcut "Pump up the Volume" from MARRS "Ali's Shuffle" from Camarro's Gang "Flim Flam" from Tolga Balkan "Theme from S-Express" from S-Express I miss the cut&paste style of old, the pianos in dance music, the samples from movies and pop culture, the non-aggressiveness aaaand, most of it all, the crackling sounds a vinyl record makes.

M.A.R.S -Pump up the volume is classic almost everyone even today remember, but this track is almost totally forgotten even though this was at least as big if not even bigger hit in late 80's. This particular track among Pump up the volume have been 2 the most influential for 90's techno-dance...
@Puschit1 Жыл бұрын
@@aquaevitae Pump up the Volume is more mainstream, has many known samples and is more catchy. As such it is better suited for radio play. It also had a top notch music video on MTV. Jack to the Sound of the Underground is heavier and more suited for clubs and, well, the underground. Does it really surprise you that the former is better known today? My favourite of that time is Doctorin' the House by Coldcut. It was equally important and Coldcut contributed SO much to the genre, both with their music and behind the curtains (and still do so today, see Ninja Tune) but do the broad masses know them or Doctorin' the House? No.

Unfortunately struggling with chronic heartfailure, surgery foreseen in June.. After having spent my life in the clubs in Europe, and at older age in W-Africa, my dream is, if my surgery works, buy N°1 at La Pleasure Beach in Accra, Ghana.. Play this kind of house, and do a collabo with my friend Reggy Rockstone and his wife Mme. Zilla.. had my best years in GH, but not enough house was played, however fellow-expats like Michel Eggen did their best.. by God's grace I have 15 more years, and will definetely do something housy in GH.. Not to talk bad about the Ghana Hiplife and Highlife.. Fantastic stuff.. Some Afrobeat and Dancehall very uplifting as well.. But not the pumpin' beats that makes you go oohh aahh oohh aahh..

I download this onto iTunes few years ago but rarely played it. I was playing it tonight and noticed how it just didn't have that "sound" like I remember, so I just Googled it and saw the actual LP record and YAY! It's just like it should be! Now if I could figure out how to get it to play on my music library from here... So good to hear this again! I had the single, but a bully in school "borrowed it" and never gave it back (she never intended to!). I was gutted - so it's good to hear it again now! Love this track! The good old days!

FJs at Narrabeen Late 80s early 1990s. Awesome Awesome! So much energy and elation! Memories of dancing and being a part of the scene that was just brilliant! Thanks to akmed, Ronnie sparks and everyone involved in that time in history. I still listen to the tracks and smile.
