Dude i know, can i ask you guys a question? my football coach is making me do crossfit as lifting, but i dont see its helping me in anything, i wanna lift heavy like i used too, but i feel like my performance is lacking now. Should lift heavy on the days i dont have cross fit? because i have it every other day, so i was thinking if i were to lift in between, i could improve my speed. like i feel crossfit, just gets me tired for 10 min then im fine. any advice?my forty is 4.5 im tryingtogetitdown

BJ Penn used to do CF, back when he was in shape. He's in a bunch of the old CF instructional videos, and Fight Gone Bad was named by BJ, and created to simulate a UFC fight

The differences are: In push press the "cheating" or leg drive actually requires strength in the legs and midsection, where as the cheating in a pull up is about perfecting the cheating technique. The loading is difficult in the pull ups. It's hard to do kipping weighted pull ups. In the push press you have to control the negative, in the pull ups you don't have to and it's rarely done.

Jon Chamberlain, Mike Boyle, Eric Cressey, Robert Dos Remeidos, Mark Rippetoe, etc...all very prominent and respected coaches have gone on record multiple times giving very sound and logical reasons why they don't like CF. A quick internet search will show that.
@FITtrainingvideos11 жыл бұрын
Kind of a poor comparison considering the angle of the pull in a kipping pull-up is measurably different than that of a strict pull-up, where the pressing angle of a strict press vs. a push-press is negligible (if there is one at all). The only people I've seen benefit from kipping pull-ups in a strict pulling sense were those who were such weak pullers to begin with and pulling of any kind increased their strength. As a side note it's very rarely if ever I see CFs programming strict pull-ups.
@varunjosh11 жыл бұрын
They're kipping pull ups,they use momentum.Thing is they can help you to increase your normal pull ups the same way push press can help increase your ohp.

@MrCranberry777 yes i understand, I'm a powerlifter. That's my passion. I compete in squat, bench and deadlift. I understand the feeling of squatting more than three times my bodyweight, benching almost two and a half times, and deadlifting more than two and a half times. Doing it in front of a crowd of people- that does it for me. Great training, and no sir never forget.

Paleo is slang for the "paleolithic diet." Essentially an attempt to eat the way our ancestors did, with lots of game meat, nuts, fruit, veggies, etc... No processed grains or other foods of that nature. It's an extremely healthy diet, and very popular in the CF community.

One day I was training outdoors (my front yard) doing doubles with 90kilos in the power snatch. This dude approached me as he was walking around the hood. Washboard abs, a tribal tattoo in his arm and lack of posterior chain muscles. I knew the ensuing conversation would be interesting. He started telling me about doing donkey kicks when extending and "jumping". I asked him how much he could snatch: "65 kilos bro but my Fran time is 3:10". I ordered him out of my property. Coolstorybrah

And cheating in the pull ups doesn't greatly change the musculature involved. In the push press you work the triceps slightly more, in the pull up, well, things remain the same basically. Or you could say you work the grip more with the kipping.

Crossfit training elicits their desired results via inefficient movement patterns, often unhealthy and ill advised. Once fatigue begins to set in form falters, which leads to inefficiencies and compensations,(that set you up for injuries as well as poor lifting form thereafter. We train movement and motor patters, not muscles after all). Poor movement wastes energy, energy is produced though various breakdown cycles therefor...hope you get the point.

@PReveryday If Crossfit didn't fuck up technique so horribly, people wouldn't hate on it so much. Safety is as important as becoming fit.

@choiboi23 that's funny, actually my deadlift must 455 @ 170#, I believe you left out the "be" there buddy. "A" for effort though. Still can't understand why so many people are against the way "we" (CrossFitters) train. I lift heavy, oly lifting 3x/wk, which takes a load of power, speed, flexibility, balance, coordination, strength, among many other points to FITNESS. I squat heavy, press heavy, and lift heavy. I think the biggest issue is that CF is spreading like wildfire.....

Although I am certified through Crossfit, I have to agree somethings are not effective nor do they make sense, however somethings I apply. I feel you have to take and grab from any and everywhere, only if its within the context of your program and it will not harm the athletes.

I started olympic weightlifting months ago. I can squat more than my bodyweight. But i unlearned to run for 10 minutes. And i hate that. I dont want to say that Crossfit is a good thing. Because i dont know very much about it. But having certain amounts of ability in strength, coordination and stamina sounds, without regard to any other specific circumstances, pretty good to me. But I never joined any crossfit workouts.
@FITtrainingvideos12 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately there are certain situations where proper and safe form simply cannot be maintained no matter how much of an "emphasis" is put on it. For example any workout that requires the classical lifts (snatch and C&J) in high rep format. Furthermore, the only GOOD CF gyms are the ones that aren't even using CF programming...so what's the point? It's just a way to make money by gaining notoriety with the name. The truth is most of the people that hate on CF are legit coaches.

@edgerusher89 First of all "in shape" is relative. Who's in better shape, a champion Weightlifter or a middle of the pack marathoner? Also, how "in shape" you are has little to do with how much you know about training. Since you're a football player, take a look at your favorite football team, and ask yourself: How many touch down passes did their head coach throw last year?

You bring up a great point that CrossFit is not sport specific, however it's not by "definition" as you so claim. If you go to CrossFit's main website they say explicitly that the needs of Olympic athletes and your grandmother vary by intensity not type. Therefore by definition CrossFit claims that they are perfect for every sport.

Also i wonder why SOF people do crossfit also. What i do typically is swim run ruck march calisthenics, benchmark crossfit workout, and weight lift just weight lifting is stupid because whats the point of having a big chest if you cant do many pushups or whats the point of having big tree trunk legs if you cant run 2 miles without being exhausted or oh you can lat pulldown 220? that great lets see the pull ups you can do not many im sure.
@edgerusher8913 жыл бұрын
@calebear35 No Im not but I'm enlisting in the army with an SOF career and there are way too many SEALs, SF soldiers,Rangers, PJ's, Recon and MARSOC marines who stand by CF and other programs like it to just dismiss, I think they all might know a little something about fitness. Not to mention my own experiences as a college football player, D1-AA level, to know that Crossfit works for what it's intended to, builiding well rounded athletes or for people who just want to get in shape in a new way.

The 4 dislikes are crossfitters :P In all seriousness the workouts are alright, I'd just prefer it if they practiced their form properly and also recognised that there are other ways to train which are better for different reasons. The one thing I hate is the power cleans where they catch with very wide legs! Get under the fucking bar!

Haha I do crossfit and found this funny. Loved the "Dont worry he didnt see you kipping your pull ups" lol. For me I think crossfit is fantastic. I get bored at 'globo gym', Im not interested in spending 2 hours a day in lifting weights, I dont want to look like a huge weirdo. I enjoy short and intense exercises and enjoy our weight lifting days, I get bored as training alone, and I dont think its all about how much I can lift. Do what ever you enjoy to get you fit and healthy :D

Also wanted to add....I agree with you in that I DO NOT like how "cultish" Crossfit has become. When I first started 5 years ago, barely anyone knew about it. Now I can see why people such as yourself get so irritated by it because many individuals who do it pretend as if there's no other program that compares, which simply isn't true. Ultimately, we all should do whatever program helps us achieve our fitness goals and not judge others for doing the same.

Check the post I was responding too. And ever hear of GPP? Powerlifters are good at much more than just lifting. I know plenty with under 6 mins miles, fast 40's and very high verticals. Yet their main focus is the squat,bench,deadlift. While in crossfit the main focus it everything so they end up being mediocre, at everything.

@Myytavana11 жыл бұрын
Well ehhh. Most of people on this planet can't lift those weights used in some basic wods. So for average guy benefits are obvious. And you have to remember that CF Games can include anything. There has been swimming, biking, running, ball tossing, tackling, climing, obstacle course, etc. without forgetting pure strength lifts. So basically participants have to train and be ready for anything not just the basic wods as you wrote. Scam or not it's best way to find weak links on your performance.
@jimbones15512 жыл бұрын
In order to become an olympian, an athlete almost has to chose their sport and begin training for that sport at an early age, in order to ingrain certain neurological pathways related to timing, reflex, balance, strength and precision. CrossFit is a sport, sort of, in and of itself. If that is what is chosen then that is what has to be developed, but CrossFit is not an olympic sport and never will be.

Great video FITtrainingvideos. I think you nailed the dialogue. Circuit training is nothing new and CrossFit doesn't produce anything other than mediocracy--not to mention it's a gimmeck. If it wasn't for the 300, CF would have gotten no where. I wonder what Mark Twight thinks about CF now. CrossFit also makes some pretty outrageous claims too (ex. marathoner Ryan Hall would run faster with CFE). I won't touch kip-ups.

@edgerusher89 Weightlifting refers to the sport of weighting not football training BIG DIFFERENCE! CF is a BRAND it's impossible to know which CF gyms have good coaches and which don't. I wear Nike shoes but I don't stand by every pair they make. Crossfit is the same thing as planet fitness maybe not in business terms but in methodology. Fitness can't be packaged! Fitness can't be defined as idea such as CF.

The Naval Special Warfare Command does not support CrossFit. Michael Caviston is very explicit about that and does not recommend CrossFit as preparation for BUD/S. You asked what good is doing lat pulldowns if you can't do deadhang pull-ups. I'm asking how there are CrossFit women that can do 40 straight kips and not a single deadhang? What good are kipups they can't do a single real pull-up?
