Happy February! I hope to cover a bunch of love-themed songs this month. It wasn't intentional, but all the songs I picked are either really sad or very dark. This is one of the dark songs. I have always seen this song as a cry from someone abused who simply can't move on. How do you get used to kindness when you've only known hurt for so long?
It was really fun to switch between head voice and belt, just like Hanatan. I love her so much.

I think it's someone recovering from a past abusive relationship, being unable to find happiness in their new, healthy relationship due to the emotional trauma from the past not having healed completely.

Adding on to what Savos Mok said, speaking from my own experience, the quieter bits explain that the speaker struggles to accept that the happiness they're experiencing in their new, healthy relationship is REAL, likely due to spending so long in an abusive relationship that anything different from that abusive norm seems strange or fake. I know myself that it can be hard to accept kindness at first in a relationship in areas where you've been hurt before, when you're just waiting for the other shoe to drop. To me, this song is saying the speaker would rather go back to an abusive relationship, to go back to the hurt they were experiencing before, because at least in that environment they know what to expect and how to feel and act, while in this "perfect" new relationship they're constantly filled with anxiety because their heart is telling them that the honest happiness they see is a trap.
