I don’t see how anyone could go against a Easton Redline. Those bats were so good either our entire starting lineup hit a bomb my Senior year or 8 of the 9 starters went deep. Including myself, and I was the lead off batter known for speed and definitely not known for hitting deep fly balls. I hit line drives, was really good at drag bunts, and was never bad about flying out. I also hit lots ground balls which played right into my game because I could beat out many ground balls for infield hits. But for me to hit a bomb weighing like 135-140, even though was strong for my size and played QB in football, however without that Easton Redline I doubt I would have ever went deep. Our team loved those bats far more than any other bats available from 98-2000. Put it this way, my Junior year, my batting average was .429 and won me the batting award for our team. I think much of the success could be contributed to the Easton Redline. Not to mention as a team my Junior and Senior season, we must of hit close to 50 HRs in a 25-30 game season.

We couldn't use thick barrel bats until babe ruth (13+) normally but I was able to start using bats like these esp the Z CORE around 1999 when I played travel ball in other states. That bat changed my life. My favorite thing was batting practice because these bats were so comfortable to hit with and the pop on some were insane. When you hit the ball cleanly you didnt even feel feel it connect it was so smooth. As early as 13 I would go other states and see bigger kids hit SHOTS with bats like these. I still remember the cracking sound you'd get when somebody would nail it.

I graduated high school 2002 and played baseball 3 of the 4 years and know a couple kids had those bats. The bats of that time period were (and still are) crazy. I personally watched a kid (a senior) who was no more than 120 pounds soaking wet and didn't play much regularly hit one to the warning track (330 feet) with what barely looked like a full swing. Somewhere in a the 50-60% full swing range, and it blew my mind. I knew the metal bats were great, but didn't understand just how good they were. The stories I always heard about college baseball games at the time (as I didn't grow up with cable or computers much) in which 15-20 run leads in games weren't safe didn't even really sink in, as crazy as it was. My older brother who played early 90s had an Easton. It's all faded but I think I have it around in my garage. I've hit it a couple times and my hands sting soooo hard after making contact.

Not really, most of the bats dating back to the 80's were way different than this bat that he swung. I swung this particular bat in the last game I played in 97 and this bat was way hotter than anything that we swung in the early 90's and late 80's.

2000-2001 HS and college went to 2-5/8" barrels and -3. Mostly brought on by the homerun derbies at the CWS at the launch pad that was Rosenblatt stadium on top of a hill with the prevailing winds always blowing out. And so began the downward slide for the college long ball (no small part to the dead balls that were also now in use). At the time, the data was showing regular exit velos in the 115+ range (with HS kids). I was at one CWS game that ended 21-14 and had like 6-7 homers per side. I made the transition to the -3 smaller barrels senior year of high school (still have the exact model you tested among others) and my favorite for the 'new' gen bats was the Easton Connection z-cores. The first 2 piece bats. Get the orange or yellow version and try that against the -5s. Noticeable performance drop. The down side of the -5 with 2-3/4" era was that the thinner walls didn't hold up long (never seemed to last a full season). Most of us used a series of practice bats and wood composites in practice and babied the expensive hot bat as our gamer. I even witnessed one -5 shatter into 5-6 pieces in a game that was played in -8 wind chill. But routine pop flies routinely left the yard. A generation later and none of these kids have a clue. I didn't mind the performance drop, hitters had too big of an advantage, but I miss the proper sound! Great to once again hear the right PING! even thru computer speakers.
