That makes sense. Do single beetle attacks occur more frequently early in the game such as in your example? Or is it more common to not have the option until later in the game when you can control more of the hive and create the opportunity?

There is no hard and fast rule about this. Sometimes it happens early... sometimes it happens late.

Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment. Yes I am very familiar with the Hive Colony. I have a tendency to agree with John Yiani, the designer of Hive, that the game is complete as is and does not need any expansions. Of course, I would welcome one if John decides to add one. But personally, I don't think that it is going to happen. PS - I check out the Hive entry at BGG every day so anytime that something shows up there you can be sure that I have read it.

I’m having real difficulty defending against the single beetle attack. Should you always pin the beetle with and ant to stop this attack ?

There is rarely anything in Hive that requires the term 'always' Setting up two good defenders is usually important. Defending with a Beetle to re-cover if the opposing Beetle covers the queen is also a possibility. The Anti-Spawn defense is another good option. Do you play at BGA or BS?
