Great tips. I just finished building mine and I did a little snipping and gluing to make another hot shot las pistol for the gunfighter. I modeled him with the arm holding the bolt pistol, but I cut off the barrel of the pistol and the magazine. I used one of the extra hot shot lasguns for the replacement parts, removing its barrel and hot shot power pack, which I glued in place to the gunfighters pistol. It is a simply conversion and looks great!

Thanks for the timely heads-up. Looks like the Aquilon Hivestorm kit's carried over into the seperate squad box and that there's been no rectification of these 'oversights' except by relevant warnings on the instructions ("x1!" in crimson beneath each part number). Like the suggestion you brought up in the comments about modelling the Gunslinger with the spare arm (straight or bent, depending on which other one you use for the Sergeant) and using the bolt pistol as a visual reminder of the firing profiles. Neat trick and seems to jive with the trooper's theme perfectly, so long as the player alerts his opponent to this fact.

I've cut down a las carbine and made a las pistol for my pistoleer, used a different right arm altogether. Funny thing is I used the same guy as you for the second specialist gun. I used magnets on the leader and the servo

@@conmadben Having just got the seperate squad box - which has carried over these production 'errors' - yes; the Scion Aquilon sidearm is considerably different from your standard Imperial Guard sidearm in appearance.

I ran into this, easy fix, took my clippers and used one of many arms with shoulder pads left over and took off the arm. Shoulder pad fit no problem and not noticeable!

Well, the Guard codex allows Aquilon Sergeants to take both bolt pistols and power weapons, so it'll cover you for the mainline game if you divvy in that, too.

Thanks for the comments! I now know which standard trooper i need to modify to be a specialist. On the note of the laspistol, i have seen people modifying the bolt pistol with las parts from a left over gun to make ot look like a laspistol.

Honestly, I'd kind of rather put the bolt pistol on my sergeant anyway; when I ran Kasrkins in KT21 I rarely if ever had my sergeant in melee - and generally if I did I had already basically lost the game. So I feel like I'll get more use out of the bolt pistol than the power sword. As far as the gunner goes, I'm thinking I'm going to try to magnetize the melta and plasma carbines so I can swap the plasma gunner for the melta in Close Quarters maps. The sentry's weapons can be pressure-fit, so I can use the grenade launcher for elite teams or the volley gun (or maybe flamer in Close Quarters?) for hordes.

I end up doing the same 😅 when I will REALLY want to test the power sword I’ll just talk to my opponent and play more casual. As of weapons I want to play aggressively so I’m dropping the sniper

I just cutted battery pack and round thingy from hotshot carabine and put it on the vet guard las pistol. As for gunner - A10 tropper could be used quite easily.

You can convert the bolt pistol into a las pistol and give it the bended arm and have the pistoleer doing the classic doom slayer pose.

Quick workaround for people that also build he Deathcorps: Chances are, you have AT LEAST 1 Las-Pistol left over from that kill team, maybe even still in the sprue, just kitbash it by dislocating the Death Corps Las Pistol at the wrist and use it instead of the Relic Bolt Pistol (which you also just dislocate at the wrist). Very simple weapon swap :)

I fell into this pitfall literally instantly! Arrggg!! It all worked out though in the end. I took the pointing finger arm, chopped off the hand and replaced it with the bolt pistol. Put that onto the pistolier and voila! Dual wielding pistols. Don't care about WYSIWYG, Cause he can't hold the bolt pistol anyways lol.

Similar with the Cadian Shock Troops. All these mutually exclusive bits and assemblies that can only work one way often seem superfluous to the dynamic poses they have.

Yeah, I miss the universality of the older designs, but must admit the new sculpts are sharp so it’s a tough trade off. My biggest problem here is really one missing pistol that would go a long way. Also the arms - it’s in CAD so it should be super easy to make sure two guys can have either a special weapon or lasgun. Luckily it’s still all easily doable, just something to keep in mind before assembling, hence the video 😁

It depends really - tempestor even with blade isn’t really great melee threat BUT higher dmg weapon gives better chance to kill attacker during retaliation and lethal 5+ give higher chance to block a crit, depending if you can kill attacker or want to block. He won’t stop Night Lord, but against say kroot 😅 bolt pistol is equally deadly, but you need to be in charge range to use it, and if opponent has good save (rubric marines with 2+ and ignoring piercing…) melee is your only chance 😬 So it boils down to how you want to use him. I went with bolt pistol because I locked myself from building options (hence the video) and it is very good loadout, but with 3APL he can shoot, charge and fight, so I feel the power weapon’s higher dmg would allow him to be more of a threat with my aggressive playstyle

Put the whole thing together before I realized double gunners was legal. Found this, used some glue to melt my guy's arms off and am now hoping an overnight cure will let the plasmagun stick. If not, then hopefully I can either glue it or superglue it enough to hold me over until someone starts selling single bits.

Yeah, at least the guns separately. Arms can be glued, but the gun itself often covers the breastplate and it has the trim etc. The rest is rather accessible, though those are quite small models with sharp detail, so prepare some fine brush 🌝

That’s the neat part! They don’t 😅 Any guard one will fit as the models have nice place on the hip guards, but yeah… pointing finger, no pistol, and magnetized sword arm will be quite popular I assume and perfectly legal if you don’t have any spare holster. Also I heard that SM scouts have spare holsters that should fit, but will check it after work

Typical GW. They have pulled the same scam all the way back to the Vet Guard figures in Octarius. That set used the same unique arm on at least 3 different operatives. IMO is a deliberate choice by GW to try and force you to buy a second box. 😠

joke's on them. i just got a bunch of 3d printed kriegers for every one of the gunners, then used the vet guard box to build the sergeant, confident w/boltgun, and every specialist. bonus points i also got the four ancillary troopers. especially since the ork box came with more than everything you'd need for their team, like heck off.

I’m afraid it’s the latter 😅 because you CAN build every operative, it’s just easy to lock yourself from the parts. I’ve seen guerilla miniature gaming have their tempestor without the pauldron, because there is only one, so there is higher chance you’ll miss on looks rather than wysywig of the team, and if they wanted to push multi-kit buying I’d guess they’d make the arms less compatible between operatives
