No question about it. I fired 75 shots with a G3 in the Portuguese Army - five times five three times - and there were a few really noticeable characteristics with it: the empty shells did shot away like rockets; it seemed very accurate to me, I had experience with .22 rifles ; and, although I admit I cannot compare it with other military rifles, I'd say it heated too much considering that I only fired it semiauto for accuracy at a very slow pace, about one shot every half a minute. Superb rifle anyway. Like the FN FAL, everyone misses it.

That's what they call German efficiency. Not only does the machine gun kill enemies from the front, but the casings also kill enemies from the right.

I think one big advantage isn't mentioned here: it fires from a closed bolt! The HK21 is a real beauty - a light machine gun with a closed bolt, fast barrel switch, belt fed and the reliability of the G3 roller-delayed blowback system. Absolutely underrated weapon. You live in an awesome country, if you are -able- allowed to acquire one 😉 Best regards from Germany
@sigspearthumb3249
@sigspearthumb3249 Жыл бұрын
Closed bolt has obvious advantages for trigger response and accuracy, but for most machine guns an open bolt design is better, since it helps keep the weapon system cooler, and helps avoid rounds cooking off. But I'm sure you know all this.
@jason200912
@jason200912 Жыл бұрын
Closed bolt is actually very bad. More accuracy but you get more overheating problems. For a mg it's more important to keep it cool and portable

I will say when you convert the 21 to a 23E it’s much more pleasant I know that sounds obvious because it’s 5.56 but I think as a 5.56 LMG it’s one of the lightest recoiling LMG’s I’ve fired if you exclude the ultimax 100

I was an M-60 “Pig” gunner. I love the way the barrel changes, and I did notice it was similar to the MG-42. The tripod being capable of being on the rear would make it easier when firing from sandbags. Now he said you can use the box and change it out with the tripod…did he mean bipod? Amazing rate of fire. Sizzling barrel was a nice touch.

In my experience, the H&K 21E is superbly accurate for an LMG. I never did formal paper punching for accuracy but I can say for sure that, with the nifty optic included with the export model, it was possible to score a first round hit on a 3 or 4 inch target at 200 yards. The guns I saw/knew were minimally maintained, to put it mildly, they were continually subjected to harsh/miserable environmental conditions and routinely abused by their operators under operation. These guns would still maintain their reliability and accuracy, regardless. I once saw one of these guns suck 500 rounds up the side of a tree without a hiccup. After hanging around with the M60E3 for a while, then coming to meet the 21E I was left scratching my head. Whatever it may or may not be worth, I think this could be the most underrated LMG ever produced.

HK21E operator here (Latvian NG). When zeroing this gun at 50 meters, you can achieve all 3 rounds in a burst hitting the same hole (noticeable bigger than regular hole though). Of course, you have to fix the gun position as stable as possible. We had a massive concrete plate which we pushed the bipod into from one side and pushed the MG into shoulder from the other thus making ultra-stable gun position.

The brass ejection doubles as an anti flanking measure. That brass goes flying violently a long distance to the 1-2 o’clock. Dayyum. I was able to fire a box from one of these and the recoil impulse really lets you know it’s there and a force to be reckoned with…
@edi9892
@edi9892 Жыл бұрын
I would have loved seeing two things: 1) how accurate is it in single shot? 2) can you hipfire it? I have my doubts due to the recoil and it being a recoil loader. However, I do know that it's possible to hipfire MG42 which is pretty insane!
