Both of these guns are superb. I ended up going with the PPQ based on ergonomics. For my hand, the PPQ fit more comfortably and the placement of the magazine release and the slide release felt more intuitive on the PPQ. These are very subjective and very much my personal choice. You could not go wrong with either of these firearms.

***** May I make a request, since you seem to favor the PPQ like I do? I was wondering if you have any experience with DPM or Sprinco recoil reducers in your PPQ? I see the DPM on Amazon for $70 and was wondering how much of a difference it makes in the 9mm or even the 40 S&W. I've heard reports that it significantly reduces muzzle flip in the PPQ. I've also heard that it causes FTF or FTE. Could you do a video comparison someday in the future? Thanks and safe shooting to you as well!

YES! YES! YES! Great video! I definitely would like to hear thoughts about why you prefer the PPQ over the VP9, as well as what Beretta9mmUSA senior prefers and why. They two pistols are so close to one another, it's almost frustrating in determining a clear choice. The triggers are close, the groupls are close, and accuracy on both are excellent. Some may not like the plastic sights on the Walther, but is by no means a deal-breaker and an easy fix. I would love to see a video with thoughts from both of you regarding your experiences and preference between these two. I'm actually kind of leaning toward the PPQ.

Mark Albert We got ya Mark, and it is Awesome that there are several Great Pistols to choose from including the VP9 and PPQ. I look the Pistols over real good when it is time to make a buying decision. tool marks, getting a trigger I really like, I pull the trigger 15 or 20 times, how is the finish, any scratches etc... Some examples are better then others of the same make and model at times..... Congratulations on your New Walther PPQ!!! Beretta Sr.

Walter H White Hi Walt, I must say I like it a bunch, check out the other HK VP9 video that I have up. Out of the box It had 2 small problems and perfect shooting after that, I even did some shooting from 45 yards away behind that huge rock that you can see at the very back of our range before I would fall down the hill behind us. This was as far back as I could go, and the New HK VP9 went like 9 of 10 from that distance from an uncomfortable shooting position. I would not even let Young Beretta shoot from that spot because of the possible danger. I just wanted to test the pistol and do things we have never done before. I came away very impressed with the VP9, I hope you really like yours. All our Best..... Beretta Sr.

I myself, am an HK guy. Was wondering, since you have so much more experience with shooting the PPQ, don't you think it would make sense, that you shoot that gun much better? If you had the same amount of time, rounds down range, and handling experience with the VP9 I would imagine you would become much more proficient with it. I cant argue the fact that the PPQ trigger has a better trigger reset, mainly because I've never felt it. I can vouch for the VP9 vs. the P30 trigger, and it is a WORLD of difference. Great video though! Would be curious to see how much better you can shoot the VP9 after months/years of practice.

Hi Jason Tanabe , I agree with your comment and you future expectations on the HK VP9. And that is the main reason it is still in my collection. I Really Like it! I look forward to putting another 300 to 500 rounds down range and see just how good I can get with it. In the solo video of the HK VP9 I think I shoot it from 45 yards away and have a bunch of good hits with it on the first day of shooting it. I was very happy with it. I Think it is a Winner and one that everyone should own :} BERETTA9mmUSA Sr.

I went with the PPQ M2 5" barrel. The VP9 overall is great, but there were some things I didn't like about it--more than the PPQ. So I didn't the comparison and I bought the 5" PPQ M2. The longer barrel and sight radius does it for me. One thing, I may not like about the PPQ 5" is that it seems to have more felt recoil than the VP9. But, If that is a worry for you than stick with a 22mag. pistol--recoil is going to happen regardless what 9mm you shoot.

Good Shooting, guys :) Now I own the HK VP9,the SIG SAUER P 320 full size 9mm, awaiting the Walther PPQ M2, tomorrow is hopefully The DAY, will be shooting all three :) Have been religiously watching your and your son's video reviews as part of my research into these specific hand guns, you were helping me to form an oponion, before i even hada chance to touch those guns. ***** Hey my Friend...... This was my 3rd trip to the Range with the HK VP9 and I leave the Range liking it more and more each time. The Fit and Finish is fantastic..... The cocking serrations both front and rear are great, and I even like the little plastic cocking grips at the back of the slide. I accidently knocked it against my Glock 30, and the finish seems to really hold up well....... Prices very, but I bought mine for $629 with the 2 mags, so I think that is a good price. Interesting...upon review of your video, the VP9 "appeared" to fire "softer" with the discernable recoil. However, you clearly experienced a softer discharge with the PPQ. I've had my PPQ M2 for a few weeks now, and I am so enamored with the ease of this gun's operation, accuracy, and ergonomics, that I am a "tough sell" for anything else. I understand, the is no "perfect" gun for personal protection or concealed carry, but the PPQ is as close as I have EVER experienced. Thank you for the straight forward review.

This demonstration further helped me on making a decision for my next hand gun purchase, with a good striker fire. I was looking at both of these guns, but being in a "budget" situation, I was considering the Canik. Hearing that the Canik mags(18 round, factory supplied) fits into the PPQ made me pretty ecstatic, because with that being said, I can for now get the Canik and later upgrade to the PPQ(which already has that amazing trigger), and can use the higher capacity Canik mags in it, or at least have them for backup. Nice, helpful info!

I am lucky enough to have both of these pistols, they each have features i like. If I could make the perfect pistol it would have the PPQ trigger, the VP9 paddle type mag release, the PPQ mount plates for RDR sights or iron, the little lugs on the back of the VP9 slide is nice for a quick grip on the slide. They're both excellent examples of this type of pistol. As for accuracy... the problem isn't with the gun as much as the shooter.

I wish guns were still cheap. Picked up a PPQ M2 anyway, a little salty over the price but MY GOD what a pistol, It's so good. The fit and finish is just stunning. Trigger take-up was a little sticky but that's a common occurrence with the firing pin safety but some good oil and a solid day at the range smoothed it out considerably. I really liked the VP9 initially but the paddle mag release was the deal breaker for me. Bought the PPQ M2 and will never regret it.

Recently got a ppq, i think i got a bad example, maybe it was made on a monday or something i dont know.. The trigger isnt that smooth. Seemed to have more muzzle flip than other 9mms. I also didnt like the rear plastic sight after use. Felt great in the hand over all though, but i feel as if the trigger is a bit over hyped. It is a nice option - and i can see why some people like it, however i wasnt super impressed at least with this example.. May check out the vp9 next time around. Great video as always guys, thanks.
@lenfantterrible343310 жыл бұрын
You're assessment is not unique in my experience. I've fired three VP9s and seen three PPQs. All three VP9's were consistence and all three had the same trigger. The first PPQ I saw was just a mess all around. Mediocre trigger at best. The second had an excellent trigger and the third was pretty good but had quite a bit of grit. No surprise here, Walther has always had questionable QC whereas I've never seen a problematic HK pistol. One thing this review didn't cover is the VP9 take and over travel are almost non-existent, and the trigger break much more forward than the PPQ trigger, which I prefer and is a huge difference for me. You are right about the muzzle flip. The reviewer said to them the VP9 had a little bit more recoil, what really was happening is the VP9 has more felt recoil as it has less muzzle flip. The energy has to go somewhere, either to your hand or in the form of muzzle flip. Like a Glock, the recoil goes more to your hand due to how high up you can grip the pistol, whereas the PPQ has more muzzle flip and therefore lesser felt recoil - which you can clearly see on video. The VP9 is just faster back on target because of that - which I personally prefer. By the end of the year HK will have sold more VP9s than Walther has sold PPQs in the last few years. Both are excellent guns, and while I personally prefer the VP9, it's no secret Walther cannot compete with HK's reputation and support (magazine availability, holsters, sight options). Not to mention the market was asking for a subcompact PPQ that Walther never brought to America and likely never will as that ship has sailed. HK will likely have a subcompact within the next year.

L'enfant terrible thanks for the reply. Ive herd that ppq can be hit or miss.. I figured even a bad one would still be decent. I was wrong. Gritty trigger on mine, makes my xd feel ultra smooth. I had to ditch the platform and move on, i might look into the vp9 sometime soon. I was pretty let down with my ppq with all the hype around it and wasnt something i could live with either since there are many other choices. Cheers.

Lee Sin Lee, I am sorry to hear this...... Please test/pull the trigger on a gun you are going to buy 15 or 20 times and make sure you love it. Never buy a gun because the sales guy tells you the trigger will get better. The trigger may get better after 600 rounds maybe after 2000 rounds, but I think the trigger should be good from the very beginning. Could you be more specific on the Canik magazines mentioned? you said the 18-round mag fits the PPQ. What specific model numbers fit the PPQ? Canik also makes a 20-round, the TPSA, -- does that also fit? This could be a Big Deal, as the Walther mags are only 15-rounds.

The Canik mag they were showing was one from the original Canik 55 TP9 DA/SA gun. Great mags but those specific ones are kind of hard to find these days since Canik has re-invented the TP9 linup. All the Canik TP9 SA/V2/SF mags should fit since they all were Walther copies originally.

Great video! I’m new to shooting and looking to purchase my first handgun. I’ve been advised to go Striker Fired, 9MM. Between these two pistols, the Sig, the S&W(both in Striker 9mm versions) and the Glock 17/19. Which would you recommend? Thank you sir!
@BERETTA9mmUSA7 жыл бұрын
Michael Werblin Out of the ones you listed, I like the Glock 19 first then the 17 if the additional size is ok. Followed by the very good Smith and Wesson M&P and the great warranty that Smith offers. On the Glock, I really prefer the Gen 4 over the Gen 5 and the Gen 4 Glocks just had a $30 price drop at my dealer compared to the Gen 5 price. Beretta Sr.

Michael Werblin Sorry Michael, I did not see the ( ,) in your first comment..... referring to the 2 pistols in this video. The Walther PPQ is our #1 9mm pistol overall.... with every 9mm considered, followed by the Glock 19, 17. The HK VP9 would be after the 2 Glocks but ahead of the Smith and the CZ pistols. All of these pistols are truly Excellent! Good luck.

@ACMAGNUM110 жыл бұрын
Yes, Please Jr, make the video. As always nice shooting guys. I have shot both, I own a PPQ . I think they are both very good guns. What I found was that the VP9 had slightly less muzzle flip, the PPQ had a better trigger, smoother, lighter and shorter reset. You obviously can't go wrong with either pistol, it's gonna come down to personal preference. Both are high quality German made guns. Let the debate continue. I might be wrong, but I think the VP9 is closer in size to a Glock 17 and the PPQ is closer in size to a Glock 19. I don't own either Glocks to compare them side by side, but it was mentioned at my LGS that most felt that the VP9 was a tad larger and a tad heavier. What do you guys think? Thanks guys for sharing.
@brettobryan.312110 жыл бұрын
Any other polymer gun handgun that I have felt is usually heavier than a glock 17, my own Sig sauer sp2022 is actually a little smaller than the glock 17, but weighs more than it because of the heavier slide

I own a Walther PPQ M2 Navy and have installed Trijicon Tritium Night Sights and a DPM Recoil Reduction System. I am not a Walther guy or an HK guy. I used to own a HK45 (Not USP) which is sort of the Big Brother of the HK P30 and VP9 and I loved it just as much as my Walther PPQ and totally regret selling it. The only issue I have had with my PPQ is that if I press the mag release button in halfway it sticks and if I accidentally press it any more I have a Unintentional Mag Drop. Other M2 owners have experienced this as well. It is a very easy fix however. Heavier springs are available for pennies to the dollar and one can swap them out fast and without a gunsmith. Anyway I would like to also hear YoungBeretta's opinion on why he likes the PPQ better. I give the PPQ a 9-1/2 out of 10 and the HK VP9 a 9 out of 10. The PPQ Navy would have a 10 rating if it wasn't for the mag release button issue. Great Review by the way!

HiScreamingSkullSaloon , It is very good to talk with another owner of both pistols...... I was interested in the HK 45 at one point and time in 2012..... I would agree with your scoring system for the most part....I would Give the Walther PPQ a 9 out of 10 and the HK VP9 an 8 out of 10 after only owning the HK VP9 only 45 days or so. Thanks for the heads up on the mag release spring as we have not seen that yet. I continue to check out the HK VP9 here at the house, and I like it more and more each day. I think HK did a very good job for sure. I plan to keep it and add a 40 caliber or 45 if they make it in the next couple years. Stay Safe ...... Beretta Sr.

I like the WALTHER PPQ as soon as I shoot it I fell in love with it . That is a accurate gun at the gun range I was off with two shots the rest of the shots bulls I . I asked my instructor what kind of gun I just shoot when he told me it was a PPQ lol. I went right over to the gun booth and bought me one again I would not trade nothing for it really good gun.

You guys make great videos, I really enjoyed this one. I got my PPQ about a year ago and I enjoy it very much. In my opinion, both guns are so equal, the Walther is a better value with its lower price.

Love both pistols. Had both at one time, but I sold the PPQ M2 due to the mag release. The way I carry, it was too easy to depress the big button mag release. I would often check to find the mag was not fully seated in the gun....big problem. I will probably pick up another, an M1 variant though, for sure.

+SIG-504 I Agree with you completely...... that is a Bad thing and not worth taking a chance on. Young Beretta had to modify a couple of his holsters for his Walther PPQ in 9mm and in 40 caliber for this same issue. BERETTA9mmUSA Sr.

Great video! I recently purchased a sig p320 and have fired 100 trouble free rounds. I really like it but I haven't shot a ppq or a vp9. Do you think that any or both of those guns would be any significantly better than the p320? Which gun would you pick up first if you had only one shot to hit a bullseye! I would like to hear expert opinions from both of you. Keep up the good work on your videos. You both have taught me a lot about pistols.

Hi dave althoff , We dig the Walther PPQ, but The HK VP9 is a winner in my eyes, and I like it more each time I take it out. Pull the trigger on both like 15 or 20 times and pick the one you like most. We are getting some feedback that not all the Walther PPQ pistols have great triggers, but the HK VP9 are all about the same {Very Good}.... Just FYI during your next handgun adventure......Keeping it Honest..... Beretta Sr.

thanks for the ppq videos guys, i think I'm going to have to get one. One thing however, it looks like your running the PPQ with an incredible amount of oil. Does it require a lot of oil to function properly? I typically DO NOT like visible amounts of oil on my guns.
@BERETTA9mmUSA9 жыл бұрын
+Jake Wilson We have 4 of these Walther PPQ Pistols, and I am sorry it looks like it was oiled a bit heavy on that range day. As a rule we go kinda light on the oil after a range day and a wipe down of the pistol. 2 swipes with a barrel brush and 2 patches one dry and one with a little CLP on it both down the barrel 3 or 4 times. A little oil on the rails, we over did it that day. That's all they have required to run near 100% reliable. I think they will run the way you expect them to, with just a little oil. Thanks for checking out the videos. Beretta Sr.

I've had my PPQ M2 now for about 4 months but never took it out thinking I would like it more then my HK P30 . Well today I finally took it out , I like the grip better on the PPQ but a I shot a lot better with my P30 but I would say that would be to that I've had the P30 for over four years and got well over 3000 rounds up the pipe and only 150 on the PPQ but I'm going to put it away till I get some new sights for it , the plastic ones on the PPQ just suck at least the front one , But I payed only $500.00 for it on GB used but in never fired condition O ya $25.00 shipping and $20.00 for the transfer ? The PPQ won't replace my P30 but It might my G19OD. Thanks for the grate videos you sold Walther another pistol 😒

I don't own either, but looking at your videos (and others on KZbin), it's pretty easy to see the PPQ has more muzzle flip. Thanks for the great videos. I'm shopping to replace the stock sights on my PPQ m1 9mm. Do you have a recommendation if I wanted to try to replicate the stock sights' POI/POA? I would keep the stock sights if my accuracy was the only issue, but I bumped the front post and it literally crushed because the plastic is so soft. I've heard great things about the Trijicons, but I hear they print a few inches high at 7 yards.

+Myanameis Beestingz We went with the Meprolight night sights ..... I looked at their site, to try and give you the item number, and the one we went with a year ago is not there. The one they offer now is CAT # ML-18801...... an upgrade to the new model? Maybe so. We have been very happy with our Meprolight sights on our Walther PPQ's in 9mm. Young Beretta has not changed out his 40 caliber Walther PPQ yet. Meprolight's big claim is that they are 20% brighter then the competition, they do seem to be slightly brighter..... I would guess 10%, but I am not an expert in that field. :) Beretta Sr.
@stopthephilosophicalzombie90178 жыл бұрын
+BERETTA9mmUSA Thanks so much for the info! I'll report back! They sure are more reasonably priced than the Trijicons! Edit: I ended up making my own night sights by ordering 1.4 x 4mm tritium vials and drilling out the sight dots and inserting them with the included heatshrink tubing with a little clear epoxy on the inside tip. Super-budget way to get night sights for $30 without a change in POA.

15Fire Its a new gun so I'd just attribute it to a break-in period. Some guns run perfect and reliably out of the box and never have a bobble, some guns need a few hundred rounds but run like a top afterwards. Just keep shooting and then you'll know.

Hi Angel Duran, I think the Sig 227SAS along with most SRT triggers are just the Best triggers in the world of handguns.... The Walther PPQ has the Best trigger of all the striker fired pistols ....Including Glock, M&P, HK VP9, Ruger SR9, XDM, XDS, XD, KAHR, Canik, to name most of the striker fired in my collection. The Walther PPQ sits at the top. IMO. Beretta Sr.

Another great review on two great pistols, and excellent shooting as well! And I agree with Beretta SR. - prefer the 9mm over the .40, and I understand that many LE agencies are switching back to the 9mm as their duty guns over both the .40 and .45. Was really never a fan of the HK's as I couldn't justify spending the same amount of cash for a polymer pistol as I did for my Sig's, tho I believe the VP9 is 200.00-300.00 cheaper than the USP or P series pistols. Stay safe guys. Phil
@BERETTA9mmUSA10 жыл бұрын
Hi Philip Beal , I agree..... many Police agencies are going back to the 9mm, mine included, it is the 40 caliber that is breaking the pistols including my Glock 22.... after 16,500 rounds the major pins started breaking..... The second pin broke in half at the 18,500 round mark. The 9mm Glocks are known to go more then 100,000 rounds before any major problems. That is my first hand knowledge of the issues regarding the 40 caliber, they are hard on the pistols. The recoil springs were replaced on a regular basis, so that was not part of it. Anyway the HK VP9 continues to impress me, and we just love the Walther PPQ. My Sig collection continues to grow and I want to add 1 or 2 in 2015 coming up. :} Beretta Sr.

Great video! I rented the PPQ on your recommendation (before the vp9 was generally available), but I won't be able to buy it until I'm able to shoot the vp9. I currently carry the Ruger SR9c, and frankly I find it's trigger to be equal (or close) to the PPQ, with the possible exception of reset.
@BERETTA9mmUSA10 жыл бұрын
Hi Ichabod Garfunckel , No big argument from me on this..... I am impressed with the Ruger SR9, and the SR9c, one of the big pluses is the firm and great break to the trigger, and a great trigger reset. I think you will like the Walther PPQ allot. :} Thanks for the comment.... Beretta Sr.
@ichabodgarfunckel195510 жыл бұрын
***** Y'know, after I posted the above comment, I went to my local range to see if they had a vp9 to rent (they didn't), but they had one on display for sale, and I have to say that it felt just as good in the hand, or maybe a tad better, than the PPQ. I liked the sights better on the VP9. I liked the ears on the slide a lot more than I thought I would, I like the European-style ambi mag release better than the button release on the PPQ, and I really didn't detect much difference between the triggers -- maybe the take up on the vp9 is a bit mushier, but the break and reset are just fine to me. I have a feeling that I'm going to like the VP9 better, but best to wait til I can rent it if only to give the retail price a chance to come down from the msrp $750 that the local gun shop is asking. I've heard other reviewers predict the asking price to come down $100 once the initial rush calms down.
@BERETTA9mmUSA10 жыл бұрын
HiIchabod Garfunckel , I must say after posting a couple videos on the HK VP9 and shooting it 3 times at the range and about 300 rounds, I am really starting to like it allot. I dig all the things you mentioned more now then when I first purchased the pistol. So if you like those features now, you will love them 300 rounds later. I think it looks Great too. A couple guys on You Tube.... that are "Gun Reviewers" were talking crap about the overall quality compared to the rest of the HK line, but I think they are full of it. I think it looks and feels like a Great German Pistol.... like the Walther PPQ, believe me you cant go wrong with these 2 pistols... Get one now and the other in 2015, you will be thanking me later, :} You Take Care, and a side note.... I buy my pistols from a fair LGS and she charged me $629....Beretta Sr.
@shanewofford129610 жыл бұрын
From a review standpoint it seemed little bit biased but you admitted that. As far as the accuracy IMO that was due to your time with the PPQ. After handling and shooting both I did decide to go with the VP9. But that could have something to do with my profile pic ;) My VP9 is an absolute tack driver, dead on everytime.
