I've never seen another HK owner at the range, they're kind of rare in the wild. Nobody has turned down the opportunity to shoot mine and they're usually pleasantly surprised. The internet loves to hate on this brand (overpriced, tacticool/mall-ninja, because you suck, et cetera) but I think a lot of folks would actually really appreciate them if they got to spend some time with one at the range. IMO they're worth the price for the quality, precision, and refinement you get.

When I go to the range I too rarely see HK owners like myself. The range is full of Glock/1911's. The Glock owners bring their girlfriends or wives. I always see the ladies limp wrist the Glocks and experience FTE or stovepipes. Always. One thing that I notice is the Glock owners always start to look at my table where my Hk's are laid out and start to inspect them visually. One in a while, I offerr to let them shoot them and they never pass on the opportunity. I always get a positive reaction. I too own the HK 45 compact. It is a fine pistol and I did not mind spending the extra money. H

HK pistols tend to favor a "hold over" sight picture rather than a 12 o'clock sight picture (with the target resting on the top of the front sight). It's been a long while since I shot an HK, but I was able to make up for this pretty quickly on the range. I got an HK45c with an LEM trigger and it's fantastic. Not having the control levers shaves about 1/4" from the maximum width, and you can feel the difference. Great review of a great gun!

Nice review man. I have a USP C about 20 years old and I would bet my life on it. The new version you reviewed is a little bigger, has slightly different sights, the anti glare strip and has an ambidextrous slide release, but most things seem really similar. That O ring is no joke. I have one on a threaded barrel but the standard barrel did not come with that and that to me is the biggest advantage of the newer version. I am 6' tall and have no problem gripping the gun even without the flared magazine. I wouldn't use any other magazine other than a factory HK because the springs in those are a single point of failure, so I don't mind spending the extra money. I like the play in the trigger in DA on the first pull and the heavier pull action. One thing I will say; I'm not comfortable carrying the gun cocked and locked as it doesn't have the rear grip safety like the 1911 and the trigger on SA mode is not a hair trigger but easily squeezed; not sure if I'm being over cautious and again, I like the heavy first pull and I'm used to it. HK do not play around. I will say if you use cheap ammo (Like China Arms Ammo, which I used once at the range - big mistake as my arm and face were black afterwards) the slide on the USP is quite heavy and that ammo caused a jam cause it wasn't hot enough. You also have to make sure your grip is quite firm to help the slide cycle, but that goes without saying. I've practiced extensively with my muscle memory presenting the gun and it comes up on target quite well for point and shoot. Very cool review.

However I do remember seeing some Aussie SF at KAF and they all carried Sigs. What type of Sig I can't tell you. I just remember seeing the grip and the rear of the frame in the holster. Couldn't tell you if it was a 226,229,228, or 220.
@NovaScotiaNewfie7 жыл бұрын
William Reese I see. I think in Commonwealth countries the 226 228 or 229 are common among Spec Ops. Most of counties that are Commonwealth base their tier 1 units off the SAS. I know our JTF-2 here in Canada and the Australian SAS are based off SAS. JTF-2 at least use to run the P226. I think some units in the Canadian Forces use to use a single stack 9 mm Sig but I forget the model number. Our infantry still uses 40's and 50's era Hi Powers. I don't think any new ones have been issued in the past 40 years at least. They did have a program set up for companies to submit designs for a new 9 mm pistol and the winner would have the design made by Colt Canada. The Government pulled the program. Kinda bad when the pistol you may get issued could have been used by your father or grandfather! See any units use the 9 mm or 45 USP?

For nearly twenty years, I’ve owned, shot and LOVED my H&K USP Tactical in .45 ACP, which (literally and figuratively) is this firearm’s older and bigger brother. Simply stated, it is the finest non-custom autoloader I’ve ever shot - it does everything superbly (although it is large), and it has enduring and outstanding accuracy, quality, durability, and reliability. Were I forced to own only on semiautomatic, this USP Tactical would be it. I can think of no stronger endorsement . . . and it’s based on decades of use, thousands of rounds fired, and employment as my primary home defense sidearm, my Colorado and New Mexico wilderness/trout fishing protector against bears and mountain lions, and even (principally in the Winter) my concealed carry weapon.

I actually live in Columbus, GA about 2 miles from the U.S. H&K factory. Three or four years ago I emailed H&K customer support and explained that my hometown is where their factory is based and requested a list of models that are made here and if they would have an identifier stating “Made in Columbus, GA.” I also asked if they do factory tours. H&K responded saying they manufacture the MR556 rifle family and the HK45C in Columbus and that all of their firearms would say Columbus, GA somewhere including those. Negative on the factory tours, they told me it wouldn’t matter if I grew up and resided next door to the founders of H&K and to maintain a 500 foot distance from their property at all times (well, they didn’t say this verbatim and I may be embellishing their response in line with the pain of rejection I still feel to this day). Nevertheless, I purchased my first H&K about 6 months ago and love the HK45C. Mine is DA/SA (I have been carrying the Sig P22X for years) and the engineering is spectacular. It does need substantial lightening up of the double action pull and some on the single action that I’ll get around to some day.

How do you like the Talon grips on it?
@Peenurpool2 жыл бұрын
@@thomasmcozart1093 : Talon Grips work excellent for me 👍... As for having them on my HK45c, it is a Must Have... I have the rubber texture on there right now, and have had the same one on for close to 5yrs now and they’ve never given me one issue.. They have held up incredibly well, especially seeing that I carry it every single day... A friend of mine has the Pro Texture and I’m going to swap to that sometime in the near future because they are just a bit more “grippy” than the ones I have on there now.. I’ve had the sand paper texture ones and they are awesome, but a bit too aggressive for me to conceal carry.. They do the job excellent and lock the pistol in your hand, but they tear up your clothes and cause clothing to bundle up ... The Pro Texture is a perfect blend , and wasn’t available when I first became aware of the company... I would highly recommend Talon Grips to anyone, and especially for the HK45c.... They improve the pistol and carry as well as range time in every way possible.... You will never go without them once you put them on your HK45c... I highly recommend to follow the installation instructions... I first clean the entire surface really really good with rubbing alcohol.. Then take the wife’s hair drier and warm up the surface of pistol really good, as evenly as possible... Then apply the Talon Grip while keeping the hair drier focused on the material and apply a good amount of even pressure to ensure they stick evenly and completely while everything is still warm... watch a video if you need to... Once they are installed and cool off, you will notice the immediate improvement... The only other way to make an improvement like this is to stipple the grip, but you must be willing to permanently modify the gun... Talon Grips are the best improvement you can make short of doing that... hope this helps 👍

I actually own a .40 USP compact. I've been dropping the mag by using my index finger and thumb on both paddles to release it. If you're going to spend the coin on an HK, I would definitely spring for one with actual night sights instead of those ridiculous "luminescent" sights. Those don't do much good to you at night if you need to use the firearm for self-defense seeing as your pistol will be in a holster most of the time. Either way, nice video, Sootch!

@ryannafe9252 Жыл бұрын
Yes, they designed them with extra space in the magazine for the spring, so that it’s never under a particularly heavy load even if the magazine is left full for many many months and also gives a bit more clearance for debris. In some cases I believe it’s worth it, that HK45C is my survival/SHTF gun because it’s unbelievably durable. 20,000 round minimum service life, including the recoil spring and buffer assembly, you can have it for decades and it will just continue to run, rain or shine.

@jreyman8 жыл бұрын
The HK45 and USP-45 will devour any ammo they are fed, though you will have to clean it after using TulAmmo (but that's the ammo's fault). The polygonal barrel scores points for its ease of cleaning, as there are no groves in the barrels to foul up. The recoil buffer system in the HK and USP mitigates both recoil, and muzzle flip. It also softens any stresses on the frame. I love the de-cocking/safety system on both the USP and HK45 (The HK45 is and evolutionary step extending from the USP-45 series.) Personally, I prefer full frame versions, but both the USP Compact, and the HK45 Compact are stellar guns, that are solidly built, reliable, and easy to operate. I would love to buy an HK45. HK earns two thumbs up from me. Once again, you deliver another great gun review, Sootch. I hope you enjoy your HK45, and EDC with it.

HK45C (specifically the Tactical model) is, in my opinion, the most versatile modern 45 available today. Good size, not too big, not too small. 8 rounds or 10 rounds for different carry situations, and can use the low profile no-lip mag floorplates for even deeper concealment. The threaded barrel gives you the same ballistics as the full sized model without the added slide bulk up front. Excellent all-around pistol, if I could only have 2 handguns forever, it'd be this and the G43.

Sig’s are not as great as HK in my opinion, for all the countless types of pistols they make (more quantity leaves room for less quality) with all the crazy names and super expensive prices they have had to still fix some problems on some of them and also the sig p226 (good pistol, and their flagship) is not as reliable in the mud and dirt as a HK USP is. Specifically the USP is the real reliable HK handgun as most of the others HK makes have shown failure to different torture test online but the USP works through it all. The Sig P226/220/229 family of pistols is still a beautiful classic though, im just saying HK is the true “get what you pay for” handgun.

If it says hk on it, I love it. Great review!

I'm with ya there man. So much hate out there for Hk which is too bad. I know you are like me and have many many different pistols from different companies. So to say HK is one of the best is really saying something.

There are so many great pistols now, it's hard to even make a choice of what to shoot. In the end you just gotta go with what you like. Glock, SIG, HK, CZ, they are all making great guns these days. Happy Holidays Elliot!!

I agree. I like and have pistols from all of those companies. I say get them all!! Merry Christmas

Sweet gun, great review. I picked up a lightly used USPc 45 earlier this year. I wish the hk45c had the usp grip and I not a big fan of the o rings. The usp is simple & bomb proof.

You can get full size UPS in .40 cal from SSL Firearms sales via an auction twice per month for $330.00-ish (plus buyers premium) or $385 plus sales tax if you want to buy-it-now. www.bidsslfirearms.com

Everyone I’ve ever seen does it wrong. I believe you’re supposed to use your middle finger to release the mag and in that way you never even have to break your grip

This has been my winter carry for 3 years. I have been thinking about a glock 30s, HK keeps telling me NO!

I have this gun. Here's my take: PROS: Accuracy. The most accurate pistol I own. Great single action trigger to carry cocked and locked. Reliable, no malfunctions. CONS: Horrible heavy double action trigger. This is the worst double action trigger of any gun I own. Grip on the full size is way better, but you give that up for the compact size.

Thank you for an awesome review. I love the de-cocking feature as well as being. DA/SA. I know it also comes in .357 Sig but for some reason I don’t see it on the 2018 MA approved gun roster. I’m hoping the weight isn’t too heavy.

Chili Prepper would you consider this as a CCW
@chiliprepper76784 жыл бұрын
@@jayrock4691 I do. Not that compact. Same size as my HK P30S. A little smaller than HK VP9. But then I am 6'6". Felt good appendic carry all day.

H&K are my favorite weapons I wish someone else would buy for me. This looks like a good 1911 replacement but with only 8 rounds, I reckon I'll stick with my G21.
@K-bob_457 жыл бұрын
MarkAndrewEdwards the full size holds 10 rounds and doesn't feel like a brick. In all honesty I would take an M&P 45 over a G21 any day

Jack Mehov lol yeah, HK doesn't does duty guns, they don't carry very comfortably. I carried a P30 for a year, it was light and I trusted it 100% but I could tell it wasn't intended for cc.

Interesting, because I have no problems cc my HK's. None whatsoever!

I don't have the body type or the moo moo wardrobe to CC my HK45 IWB...I can if I'm wearing layers to hide it...If I were doing it OWB, I'd have to throw a jacket over it...So I carry the P30SK or something else in that vain...I'm always impressed with guys that can conceal a full sized duty pistol all day long.

It seems like most people in the states have no idea how to run HK style mag so I'll explain. You use your shooting hand middle finger and actuate it by pressing down. If you do it that way you never have to break your grip

I like everything about mine except for the recoil spring. You always hear about it being good for 20k rounds when in reality I started getting FTRB at 5-6k rounds. I figure between 4.5-5k rounds ball and another 1k rounds split between defensive ammo and suppressed use.
